PMaine 31 #1 Posted May 5, 2018 516h. Battery was suspected of being bad so I replaced it. New battery also went dead. Put the new battery on a charger and did not use the tractor but reconnected everything and found the battery to be completely dead a week later. Fuses are good but seems like there's a drain and no charging. Any tips? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,034 #2 Posted May 5, 2018 Chances are your voltage regulator is bad. You can find one on ebay for less than 20 bucks. Aftermarket is fine. The Onans are known for those going bad. It is on top of the engine with 3 wires attaching to it. If you want to be sure you can test the voltage going to it from the wire behind the flywheel. squonk 38,844 #3 Posted May 5, 2018 If you don't have a 12 volt test light get one. Disconnect you negative battery cable. Attach one end of the light to the battery negative post. Attach the other end of the light to the cable. Do not reconnect the battery. If there is a draw the test light will light up. Start disconnecting/unplugging things until the light goes off. when it does, you found what's drawing the current. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

A cheap way is to just put a small bulb, like an instrument panel bulb, between the battery post and the disconnected cable. Not as convenient as a test lamp, but will work in a pinch. 953 nut 51,520 #5 Posted May 6, 2018 With any electrical problem the first thing to do is have the battery load tested. A new battery should be good, however it may not be. Clean and tighten ALL electrical connections including grounds.
