russellmc301 600 #1 Posted April 30, 2018 drove plowed during the winter then on my way to parking it it sputtered then stopped so i just pushed it to where it is now. what is the thing on the front of the engine that the gas line goes into then out to the carb. when i put ether in the carb it starts up then dies. 953 nut 51,679 #2 Posted April 30, 2018 That would be the fuel pump and they work best if the tank is full.
russellmc301 600 #3 Posted April 30, 2018 i filled the tank all the way up so the pump must have gone bad. thanks
daveoman1966 3,611 #4 Posted April 30, 2018 Plugged fuel filter? Plugged nipple in the fuel tank?? Air vemt blocked at fuel tank cap? Could be things other that a bad fuel pump. Needle seat valve in carb MAY also be the culprit...
Tuneup 1,416 #5 Posted April 30, 2018 It's now just the perfect opportunity to spend time with her and inspect the fuel system from the tank through to the valve inlet. Heck, I'd pull the carb and clean it, check the needle, pull the fuel pump and check the seals, replace the lines and filter if it has one and the valve in the tank. Whatever the model, with today's lousy fuel, makes good sense.
squonk 38,925 #6 Posted April 30, 2018 Could also be a worn lobe on the cam that pushes the pump lever
