Rebuilt won't start!!! C-81 8 hp Kohler

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

We finally have our C-81 rebuilt.! It's been a long road.

Big problem: it won't start. It appears that it is not pumping fuel.

My question is: do I need to prime the system in any way? Or is it that my fuel pump is dysfunctional? Or is there something else I am not thinking of?

I can see at the fuel filter that gas is not being pulled through.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Maybe give it a couple shots of start fluid to get it running long enough to prime. If my c81 sits for a few weeks i have to do this to prime it again. And be on level ground.

Is something blocking the fuel leaving the tank? Is the shutoff open? Start at the source and work it through.

The tank shutoff valve is open isn't it? If you remove the fuel line at the inlet of the pump, place it in a can and pressurize the tank slightly it should begin flowing. Once there is flow you can attach it to the pump. They are better at pushing fuel than sucking.

If you had the pump off, make sure the lever is above the cam and not under.
