Beautiful! Thats when they made real trucks! What’s it have for a motor/ tranny? It’s obvious that I am living in the wrong part of the state! @JCM @ebinmaine

@AHS   I factory ordered that truck in March of 1986 knowing I would keep it for many years, there are more pics on page 7 showing the interior. It has an LT9  350  with a 4 barrell carb and 4 speed manual transmission that the salesman tried to talk me out of saying it was to nice of a truck the way I ordered it to be shifting and I'm glad I didn't let him talk me out of it, that's the most fun part of driving it even 34 years later.    Thanks for your interest

I have one of those trucks! Its a 71 C10 250, 3 OTT. Its a project! The 250 runs awesome. What did your truck have in it for a motor? @PeacemakerJack

I love the sound of a healthy straight 6, but I can’t justify pulling my 350 for one...  otherwise, our trucks are close cousins!

’69 C10 long bed, 350 3 OTT

@pullstart      69-72      Were my favorite body styles, just could never find a mint one here in New England. Been searching for pics this morning to post but I put them in such a good spot I can't find them    :confusion-confused:  Stay tuned

I’ve been torn with what to do with this one.  I’d love to have a 4x4 69-72 truck.  I like ‘em higher than lower.  I know you can swap the front crossmember from a 73-87 truck... maybe a 3/4 ton swap?  Maybe just clean it up and enjoy it some more...

I had a 68 Chev short bed 4 wheel drive

straight six - 4 spd

Fisher plow (rare at the time ; most had Meyers at the time)

had the big straight six - not the small 235 or whatever it was

292 I think (? - 300 would be a Ford ?)

not positive - but I believe it was the same heavy duty / commercial 6 installed in many UPS trucks at the time ... beefy bottom end (forged crank and rods ?)

truck was ordered from factory with lower gearing - really low : that thing was singing at 55 mph on the highway

we miss the brown truck !

diesel auto 4 wheel with meyers plow

good times - would drive the kids around in this truck and listen to their fav country tunes

but the diesel engine was the fav tune - nothing quite like the sound of a diesel

when I brought home 416-H - their eyes opened wide because they thought it sounded like a diesel  lol

back in the day some of my friends  started with 2wd - and transformed them into 4wd

some transformed 3/4 ton trucks into short beds - cut frame, shortened driveshaft

but better  ...

some were installing car bodies onto the 4wd chassis

one put 68 Camaro body on 4wd chassis ... and installed a front end  on the rear - instant 4 wheel steer !

this thing could go down the road sideways !

A friend of a friend at my old job put a Camaro body on a Blazer chassis, then mounted an 8’ belly mower under it for field duties.  We dubbed it “The Camower” but I had only seen pictures of the creation from the first friend.  That’s riding in redneck style right there!

Yup!!^^^ A healthy straight 6 (250 or a292) with headers, cam and A ported head... . will sound awesome! A guy up the road from me has a 68 K20 292 plow truck... and he won’t get rid of it!! (I’ve tried!) I’ve watched that truck plow... and he push over a house and keep on going... lots and lots of torque.. it unbelievable!

You are correct. 292 Chevy. Although they did use the 300 fords in the UPS trucks. I can’t ever remember the 292 in UPS trucks... could have been. 292 was a torque machine!!💪💪

Not much vintage in this post, but the front end seems pretty classic!

All this talk about the 67-72 body style reminded me of my first truck. I bought it from a friend in 1985 when I was 15, four months before I could even get a learners permit! I think I paid 1600 bucks and it had an 8’ Meyer plow with a homemade headgear. At the time I was plowing snow with my Work Horse GT -1800 and couldn’t wait to use my truck to plow! I used to sneak it out with my friends late at night and go for a drive on the beach. I was (and still am) lucky enough to live a quarter of a mile from a beautiful stretch of beach that is well over a mile long. The truck was a 1968 3/4 ton with a 327, 4 speed and I believe 4:56 rears. I remember that truck didn’t like to go much more than 55 mph! Here’s me with it at 16 years old. Gotta love those hightop sneakers!!!! Also the genuine Wheel Horse red hat in the first Work Horse picture!

Just found a few more. Here’s my second truck, 1978 1/2 ton with a 350 4bbl auto and a fisher plow. Pictures from 1988 I was 18 and just joined the local volunteer fire department of which I am still a very proud member of 31 years later!!

Say Kevin, are the suspension arms on the rear end of this truck in good shape?? They were made from two pieces that were welded together and had a tendency to rust out in between the two pieces. If yours are bad or questionable I may have a set in good shape. One up grade that was common in my area was to get rid of the coil springs in these trucks & put leaf springs in from a GMC of the same era.
