Still have snow piles melting everywhere that contain tons of salt crystals/brine solution. Made some pretty good money with my old 86 C70 bucket truck. And when I started driving tow trucks 10 yrs ago, my first rollback was on a 79 C70 chassis, made several trips to Oklahoma City and back hauling two cars at a time that we had bought at salvage auction. I could keep up with our two newer trucks going down, but coming back loaded I'd tell em just go ahead I'll be there when I get there, old girl was topped out at around 50 loaded, but she'd always get the job done 4 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The first one is the 88 GMC I just bought a couple days ago. This one will be my daily driver and work truck when I get it up and running. The second one is my old 79 K20. It is just about completely wore out, and has pretty much retired to just sitting around until it's time to put out a bale of hay for the horses. And here is one you guys should enjoy, my boss just bought this old 64 F350 4x4. Trina and I have been going through old things and boxes of stuff that I've inherited over the years. My paternal grandfather was quite a car nut to say the least and we found magazines and books dating back into the 30s and all kinds of car pamphlets and information from the 1920s and 30s up into the 60s. That may not be so old to some, but this is Maine.. It's bad enough when I see late 90's GM trucks and thing "eesh, thats an oldie". I seem to forget entirely that mine is even older. Wouldn't have it any other way though. She's put down just over 32k miles in my ownership without a hitch, from Maine through to Ohio and Florida, I can't complain. (Hauled many a Horse, too) Back when I was in highschool, it would really confuse others when they saw no radio, no AC, no carpet, no power steering, brakes, or just about anything.. did I mention mine came off the line with no heater? 3 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I look at your list of deleted items and it makes me think of the musclecars of the 60’s ordered without that stuff for weight savings. Mentioning no heater...how did that feature get deleted? Stepney 2,314 #267 Posted March 25, 2019 Haha, dealer credits. There's more to it, too. No heat, AC, p. steering, P. Brakes, it also had no windshield wiper washer, just a little tack on foot pump. All it has is a 40 amp alternator with a single belt. For options, my truck was fitted with a rear bumper, and an Overdrive 4 speed gearbox. 4wd with limited slip in the rear. Just to make the thing more drive able, I've added a vinyl floor, Power steering, and some other things to keep it period, but a little more comfortable. Funny enough, the build sheet also says it was ordered with the 'sport' gauge cluster, which included oil and ammeter gauges, but no tachometer. There was just an open hole where the glove box went, just a door, nothing else. Was this removed I do not know, but it's also not included on the sheet.. so who knows? To say the man was a stickler for simplicity is an understatement.. As for the lack of heater, my truck came from South Carolina when it was new. Through various online clubs I've learnt this was apparently somewhat common. Ended up finding another strip model with the correct vent/deforst controls and a heater box so I added that as well. I still have the window sticker and all the paperwork. The old gent who owned it passed away in 1992 and it was left in his garage by the family, till the place was abandoned. When they set about foreclosure, the truck went up for auction, and that's how I got it. Funny enough, I had little idea about the lack of hvac in it. I knew it had no radio and other things when I bought it, but mostly it was sight unseen. When it arrived, I probably sat in it for 10 minutes trying to figure out what was missing from plain sight. There was just a simple plastic plate where the controls should go, with a Ford script. A lever for defrost/vent.. but no temperature. 1 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Matter of fact it was an 80 F150 with the 300 I6 and 4 speed that converted me from a GM to a Ford guy, no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't kill that old truck. Several times I retired it to the pasture with the other junkers, only to have to go get it when one of the newer ones wouldn't start. Never mattered how long it sat out there, I could throw a battery in it and fire it right up. I used and abused that old truck for several years, finally junked it out when the body got to the point it was just falling apart, the old 300 still lives though pumping water for one of my buddies irrigation systems. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Keeps telling me he wants to sell it, but always backs away every time I make him an offer on it I just sold my late dads 1964 ford f600 firetruck. it was hard for me to do but she needed more love than i could give her. i sold it to a kid he is keeping the original paint and just clear coating it. it came from south milford indiana it was there water tanker. it only had 17,000 original miles and most of them where my dad putting them on it. it only had like 2300 miles on it from the fire dept. the kid keeps me updated on the progress. i miss the old gal! i feel i did the right thing i didnt want it to rot sitting outside at my mother in laws place 4 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
