PTO Clutch Pressure

Recommended Posts

Is there a procedure for setting the proper spring force on the PTO clutch?

I'm interested in both a 520H and a C161, if the difference in mechanism drives a different procedure.

Have never seen a procedure for these models. The handle does snap down with a bit of authority when the linkage goes past center which is what keeps it applied. If you ever hear a high pitched squeal when under a heavy load it is time to tighten the rod a turn or two. That squeal is caused by the clutch slipping.

The C-195 Twin uses a different cone clutch and it does have a setup procedure.

Since pressure is applied to the clutch, the thrust bearing within the engine takes the load.  I don't like to use any more pressure than necessary to minimize the bearing wear. I don't know if anyone has experienced failure from that issue.
