Very cool!

Was it originally a hood emblem on a Mack?

Not this one...

She found it online listed as a rat-rod shift knob.

The Mack hood ornament has changed some over the years but to the best of my knowledge has always been a whole dog.

I have a tattoo of "figure 1"

I have a Peterbilt "Flying Swan" that I'll likely install as the hood ornament later.

@GlenPettit, Was it you that had the brass inserts available for a shift knob (or whatever) ?

Do they sell by the size of the bore ?

I need one for this puppy-dog head....

Sarge

There are a whole slew of brass or steel inserts available in common thread sizes for wood (knurled outer diameter) at the hardware stores and home centers - that's how I've made various plastic or other material novelty knobs in the past .

Sarge is correct, that's what I use to cast into the knobs I make, plus brass inserts don't rust.  I buy 100/package and @ cost is low.

The thread size you need is 3/8"x16  (internal measurement, size of the bore), but the size hole you'll need to drill may be 7/16" or 1/2",

and then use JB Weld to secure (screw) it in.

Be glad to just give you one free, but that darn shipping is $3 minimum, you should be able to buy it for $1.

That is a very nice ornament-shifter grip you were given.   Great to have a woman that understands you.

Thank you anyways Glen. No worries. I'll check the stores soon.
