I've used aluminum diamond plate as well as black abrasive and self adhesive stair tread material. Kind of like skateboard tape. Got both at Home Improvement store.

I just mask off the footboard area and add sand to black Rustoleum. You could also add black beauty blasting media for a more coarse grit.  Then follow up with another coat of black paint.

I like this system because it is so inexpensive and the rust does not start underneath the glued on floorboards.  I used it on a motorcycle lift that gets walked on almost daily and it holds up fine.

I guess spray on bed liner would also work well. Good point about rust developing beneath the aluminum.

The items from Eldon at Classic Kitchens cants be beat, IMO!  Easy to apply, fit great,  wear real well, non-slip and look very original!!!

Go to Kofflersales.com.  They sell non skid adhesive backed tape from 3M.  you can get a 6 inch x 24 inch piece of tape (enough for both floor boards) for $3.29 and shipping is maybe $4.  No yellow stripe either.  Buy the 60 grit stuff and it is an exact replacement (although it is 1/2 wider than original WH part)

I used conveyor belting. Makes cleaning snow, salt, dirt, pebbles, and dirt a lot easier.  I cut the outside edge 3/8 oversize so the water won't touch the running board. :wwp:

I like the spray on bed liner. Fast, easy, and affordable.

Coarse skateboard grip tape. Works great and wears well.

One piece does both footrests.

I use what I have, and I had some 2" wide 3M safety tape left over from replacing it on an aluminum running board on an Old Ford van I had.

I used two strips that left a Red painted strip down the center.
