My latest little machine, a 17-44HXL

Now that was a great deal - did it come with a deflector for the discharge chute?  Good to know that your wife cuts grass - can't get mine near one...:(

Came with the deflector. Looks like it was taken off when machine was new as it looks new.

It also came with 2 large plastic pieces that get installed for mulching.

Also came with all the manuals including a VHS tape (which I can't play as I don't have a VCR any more but I thing my mother in law does).

My wife usually cuts the front lawn with a push mower and I cut the last 2 acres with a rider.

She will like to ride I am sure.

Also came with a little tool for removing and installing the deck lift assist spring.

Just washed up this little beast.

Mowed the back yard with it and it did a good job.

Deck on this machine looked a little rough so I gave it some love.

Nearly everything was bead blasted and painted. Deck had a few stress cracks that were welded up.

Also one mounting pin was missing and had been replaced with a bolt. Proper pin is now welded into place.

No rust holes, just some surface rust and minor pitting.

Spindles were rebuilt with all new bearings.

Idlers were repacked with grease and spin smoothly.

Both belt tensioner bellcranks have new bushings installed and work smoothly.

Front anti-scalp wheels have bronze bushings installed, and wheel bolts have been drilled then cross drilled and a grease fitting installed.

Blades have been cleaned up, sharpened , balanced, and painted. I have new ones but these will work fine for now.

New decals installed. Thanks Terry for the excellent decals as per usual.

Here is what it looked like when I first pulled it.

Won't need it for a long time but at least it is ready.

Just need to install it then level it and set the brake clearance.

Looks like new Cleat nice job:handgestures-thumbupright: My wife has the little brother to that tractor  a 16-38HXL and she loves to cut all of our 2 acres with it. She is short but till can reach the pedals easily. Also have a nice little bagger for it too. Plenty of power and picks up nice with high lift blades. There were plastic things on the under side to make it a recycler deck but your doesn't have them. There might have been a blank off thingy for the discharge too.

You plan to put on and use the deck wash fitting? I always though that was a good idea so ordered one for my other mower. I do go through bearings a lot though. Those style tractors are very abundant on CL around here and may upgrade her to a 44" if this one ever craps out but it just keeps going. Always though the transaxles would be problematic in these little gems but so far so good.

I have the 2 plastic inserts. Never used them yet.

I find the hydro unit works great in forward but seems a little weak in reverse.

I will check it out better this spring.

I will not put the washout port back on.

I once had a machine that had one and all it did was make a terrible mess where it was used and also took out the spindle bearings quite quickly.

I made a little collage to show the difference.

Now if it would only warm up, melt the snow and grow grass then I could try it out.

Never thought they would do any good, but it depends on the brand...i bought one made for a Husquavarna and it makes a spray about 70 degrees wide - does a really good job if you do it just after cutting....:twocents-02cents:

Agreed Jerry, you gotta do right after cutting and EVERY time. It starts to matt up and then its usually time to pull the deck , flip it and clean.... sharpen blades while your at it. They can be awful hard on spindles & bearings too but I hear tell Toro can be quite proud of theirs!

Did you know a pair of the blue Mastercraft sawhorses will lock together for storage and transportation? Took me a while to figure it out.
