Something...'different'.

It's a wheel horse Jim, but not as we know it.

Hello RS, although l've been a member for seven plus years, I don't post very often and don't think I've started a topic in the Restoration/modification/custom section until now.

In february '16 I started a build, really as a result of members on here who show off their fabrication talents, some of which are quite amazing. I won't name names but down the years there have been many memorable projects.  So I thought I'd have a go.

Rather than do a blow by blow account of this, I thought I'd build it, prove it works to myself then share. Currently I'm stripping it all back down for painting....uugh, summers on the way so getting a descent paint job should be easier.

This has been an on/off project for 14 months (mostly off), bulk of the time spent scratching my head to work around problems.

Before I go further I'd like to say that I'm a farmer not a fabricator or machinist, I can weld well enough to know it won't break but I'm certainly not a professional.

So..... what have I got to show you?

I've looked through RS and the www and not seen anything quite like this, so I may have created a one off.

I thought I'd tease you all with build pictures to see if anyone is on my wavelength, first ones are clues but don't give much away. When and if someone sees through it I'll reveal all.

WARNING

If you have a certain fondness for the 1973  model 12 auto and feel they should only be restored to completely original condition, you may wish to find a different topic to follow.

I actually only have a few clue pic's before things become clearer, have a guess, I think your going to like this.

Backwards hood ornament, red gadget on bench behind hood, front tach a matic peeking out the headlight slot, lengthened perhaps? steering shaft on bench...that's all I got....but I am going to follow along to find out!

I will venture a guess though. Dual Engine Horse!

Looks like an air scoop on the headlight slot. Will this machine be boasting  big horsepower?

I would venture a guess that you won't be offending too many people with that!  :ychain:

I have examined the clues but haven't figured it out yet.

Anglo Traction

Hi Rex, Good to see you posting on a project. Very intriguing. Little to go on so far.

I'm gonna say it could be something like a Crop Straddling Tractor...High axle, large wheels and as you say being a Farmer, I suspect you'd build something to have a practical use and that it has to work for you?.

Now tell me I'm a million miles away from being right :confusion-shrug:.

Regards

Looks like the steering shaft has been lengthened and modified for a gear or maybe a pulley to replace the steering wheel? Front air intake for?

Well from those two pictures someone's on the right lines, a little more detail and I'll share, are farmers really that black and white?:)

when I took the pics I wasn't thinking about what was in the background, so l have to jump about a bit..you lot with your sharp eyes.

Here's a few more, l'm pretty sure there are big enough clues to give it away....

It could be the makings of a rear steering tractor.

It's going to be going backwards the hood emblem is pointing the way. We are old and have a short attention span we may forget about this build, better tell us quick.

Here as promised the pictures that show which way I'm going with this, and what it's for.

The last pic only shows one of the hydraulic rams, there are three on the finished machine.

I think I'm going to call it wheel horse LS or maybe wheel horse i.

Not sure yet.

:)
