I had a pretty mint 78 Z/28 I bought off the original owner back in 1991. It had only 55,000 miles on it. Never driven in rain or snow. The only thing I did to the car was add an RV cam and an Edelbrock intake. With the 3.73 gears I could easily grab all 4 gears. Just enough to be fun. My wife really liked it and drove it often but when the chance came up to make a deal on a 69 SS Chevelle I had to go for it... Both cars are gone but I still got the wife! We both wish the Z/28 was still around. It is an automatic with the factory posi rear end. It has a little over 58,400 original miles on it. Actually it can't go much faster than the 350 did - it just spins the wheels if you push it too hard. I had a blue one just like it with a 69 427 in it. Dennys502 244 #53 Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) Here is another thing I like to do - design stuff. This is a deck I designed for my niece. The tall posts are 26' 6 x 6 treated and were the biggest pain of the project. My brother and I built it last year and is something I won't be doing again. Just getting too old for it. That is my brother and niece in the picture. I designed an addition for his other daughter and helped build it last year also but did more supervising and just did the harder things myself as it was faster than trying to teach someone. 6bg6ga 271 #54 Posted May 14, 2017 Great thread that has been forgotten. My hobby's are reloading and target shooting. The wife and I enjoy shooting everything from her 380's to my Desert Eagle 44 magnum with scope. I currently reload 380, 9mm. 10mm, 40 cal, 38, 357, 45acp, 45 long colt, and 44 magnum. I cast my own bullets for handguns and do my own bullet sizing and lubricating instead of buying the bullets with the exception of the Desert Eagle which has to have jacketed bullets to keep from clogging the gas port. My favorite rifle caliber is 308 and my favorite military rifle is a Israeli Heavy Barrel FAL. I bought the near perfect kit that came without the upper receiver and then purchased a new receiver thru my buddy that has a FFL. I also reload for 5.56/223, 22-250, and 300 blackout. I purchase all the parts I need and then assemble my AR-15's in 5.56 and 300 Blackout myself. Electronics, I design and build all my audio gear. I build my own tube preamps and individual mono block power amps. I've got a few 1928 radio's one of which is a RCA Radiola model 62 that I rebuilt that runs like brand new. I've spent almost 45 years with the same woman and I've learned that it is important to be able to share a hobby with your partner. The two of us enjoy shooting and I've probably created a monster since she has more guns now than I do. I've even gotten her into reloading as she now separates the different calibers so they can be tumbled/ cleaned prior to reloading again. Now, its her job to decap the brass and run it in the biggest Dillon tumbler they make. I currently have the parts ready to assemble a wet tumbler which will make the Dillon look like a toy. No time to do it yet.
Amcwheel85 2,058 #55 Posted May 18, 2017 Other hobbies are other garden tractors, including signs and memrobilia, AMC cars (between me and my dad we have 6 cars, 10+ engines, 1 AMX drag car that will be ready to roll in 1 week (which none of the cars would ever be powered by chevy as we use those for boat anchors! Also like ford and Pontiac powered pontiacs! Ford trucks as I've had about 10 in last 10 years and collecting tractor toys!

953 nut 51,018 #57 Posted May 19, 2017 My primary hobby for the past four decades has been Street Rods, The '48 Ford I have was built thirty years ago and has over 100K on the odometer. I am also a volunteer with Habitat for Humanities and work with them about two days a week.I do the majority of their plumbing and electrical work as well as carpentry work. I also enjoy woodworking and recently built a set of cabinets for our laundry room. The oak was harvested from our property when we had the site for our new house cleared. Not quite finished yet, but nearly done.
JPWH 5,288 #58 Posted May 19, 2017 I really don't have any hobbies. I just like tinkering with wood and metal. I also enjoy building things I "need". My horses are mostly for yard work and I now have one for each grandson. When they get old enough to take care of them I will have to get another one or two or ...

Vinylguy 4,666 #64 Posted September 11, 2017 (edited) I love bass fishing and spend time at our summer home at Cabin Fever Campground and Hunt Club. We have an older 2000 Sunnybrook 5th wheel camper on a permanent lake front site. For the first 2 years I had a two man bass boat that I towed to the back lakes where the lunkers lurk but I needed a larger boat that Lola and Buddy could safely fish the back lakes with me. After finding the perfect used 16.5 ft Lund and selling the motor and console we have the boat we need. I decided to see if our Club Car Precedent was up to the challenge of towing and launching a larger vessel. We recently installed the highest rated interstate batteries in our cart and I must say they were worth the expense as the cart is stock yet performs way better than the original trojan batteries that came in it. Much smoother low end torque. We are now able to launch or load on all three lakes without any trouble. Edited September 11, 2017 by Vinylguy 3

Sarge 3,462 #66 Posted September 12, 2017 The Toyota inline six was loosely based on the tall block Chevy industrial truck engine . This first variation was the F model - not exactly powerful but as we put it - too stupid to die either...lol . Post '74 models used the 2F engine which was a huge improvement and stayed as a reliable staple until the 3F came in with the new FJ60 wagon model . It's not unusual to see an original 2F with 500,000 miles or more that still runs and even more common is to find one that sat for 20yrs and will fire right up with little to no work on it . Very simple , heavy (800+lbs) and pretty much bulletproof . Mine is a bit of a rarity as it still has stellar compression and will push the old girl well over 80mph , although it's a bit of a white-knuckle ride with the sloppy steering box , short wheel base and 33" Toyo MT's . My GSD is going to be one unhappy dog the day that truck leaves - he thinks it's his truck , lol . The whole trick to this sale is not the truck itself compared to what I have here in parts - near new rear van & front doors , spare fuel tank , hard top sides like new and another top along with a whole plethora of rare new small parts - some I had to source out of Japan . Frankly , the sum of the parts if put on the market are worth more than the truck - but I want it sold to someone that will use those parts and rebuild the old girl as it deserves ...thankfully the collector's market has spiraled on these things so it has a chance to live a very long time after I let it go . So , would Lonnie be interested in this thing ? @otrelwood ....? Sarge

The the 83 had the 22R and manual trans, the 86 was auto with the 22RE. Both trucks lasted well into the 300k mark, and they were worked hard.

More like total body makeover... I have most the skin left on my back, I THINK! Took a good spill doing things like proving I’m not young on the slopes, slid good on groomed ice with my jacket and shirt up by my shoulders. I had to fit math class in too, like how many degrees are in an almost complete revolution!
cruisnblue48 783 #74 Posted February 18, 2019 (edited) I have been a huge dirt track racing fan all of my life. In 2004, I had the opportunity to purchase this old early 1960's era modified race car. It was pretty much junk and did not run when I bought it... It took me about 6 years to restore it to running condition... Then I had the time of my life driving it on our local south central PA dirt tracks with the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing vintage race car club. We basically ran old vintage dirt track race cars for show and exhibition purposes only. We did not actually race for points or money. I drove my vintage race car for about 7 years from 2010 until 2017 when I sold it. But this was without a doubt the most fun thing that I have ever done in my entire life... Nowadays, I help sponsor and work on this 410 sprint car that a buddy of mine owns and drives. We basically race on Friday nights at Williams Grove Speedway and on Saturday nights at Lincoln Speedway in south central Pennsylvania. And if you look closely on the side panel above the left rear tire, he has my name on his car and lets me stick a "Wheel Horse" decal on it as well... formariz 11,849 #75 Posted February 20, 2019 (edited) I am not sure that in my case they can actually be called hobbies because not only they are intrinsically connected to my profession and life passion. Its more like a way of life. But then wheel horses really fall into the same description. I am a woodworker so pretty much my so called hobbies have to do with it, whether it is tool collecting, tool making , house work, etc. Its kind of hard to separate pleasure and work around here. Here are a few samples; Some that I made; Some of the Stanley 45 collection; Some prized ones; They are all over; Some of the tool results; Oxen Yoke Front Back Edited February 21, 2019 by formariz 1
