Only had an hour in the shop. With Predator the charging system is too weak to power the  lights and electrical PTO etc. So for now I'll use a solid steel dash plate that I'm in process of fabricating. That will also allow me to punch holes for more modern switches and gauges should I choose them. As can be seen I have a excellent dash cover if I was want to use one. I still need to do some to it but I got it 90% done today before I had to focus on life stuff.

I’ve enjoyed following your build. You do some excellent work. 

 

If you wanted to up the charging power, parts from a Honda gx630 will supposedly swap into the predator and get you an 18 amp (maybe it was 15?) charging system. Been awhile since I looked it all up.

I will likely reach a point this fall where I idle the project for winter and will see if I can dig up the specifics and gather parts for spring.

Even  with the Kohler the charging system won't keep up.  :twocents-02cents:   I think a manual PTO clutch and LED lighting would be the way to go.

I run an electric PTO on my Predator and have had no issue, (have not had occasion to run lights at the same time). To my knowledge the Predator do's not have a side thrust bearing so I avoided the manual PTO.

If you can somehow get another pulley to put an alternator in there...:D

 

The SI10 group is great and I used it on my Raider.

From what I had noted, it was a different charging coil for 18amp system. Honda part number:

31630-ZJ1-802

I'd double check that since I never got to that point with mine.

I have seen internet chatter assuming this would work but no definitive confirmation. Although from images they do look like they would work. I may take the plunge and be the guinea pig. Pic of Predator blow up and pic of Honda coil.

Busy week at work and Church.

 

Did finish the dash plate and got the rims painted. 

 

These tasks were not necessary at this time but were easy short jobs I could tackle in between life this week.....and rain.

Custom brackets for installing brake calipers done. Took most of the day. Started modifying the inner fenders to fit.

DId you come up with the brake design yourself or are you adapting an existing kit?

There is no kit for the GT14. This was never an option for the GT14. To my knowledge only a few of the d series could have them. 

 

As such I bought a set of calipers for a cub cadet and modified them to work on the GT14.

 

Another fella on the forum rebuilding the 18 Automatic helped me with diameter of the discs. I ordered 8" stainless blank discs from EBay and punched the center out, then drilled mounting holes to line up with the D series Hubs which are drilled and tapped for the D series turning brake discs.

 

i have them located such that I'll likely run a cable to a set of levers to actuate the calipers. And it will be from the top. This is a work in progress with many trial attempts then realize something not taken into account drives  re-do.

 

I am about 90% confident this set up will work now. Once I modify inner fenders.

The reason the updates to this project have been nil lately is I plan to bring it to @stevebo meet and greet this Saturday.

 

I'll update afterwards and then it will be dormant until Spring most likely.

Dr. Trimble, seriously, if you live in upstate NY, you need to learn about how to dress for winter, and how to install a heat source to your garage/workplace.

Start by researching Carhartt work wear and polypropylene long underwear.

Oh........ and ceiling hung propane or natural gas heaters, too.

 

It won't change once you have to move west......it's still cold there in the winter.......maybe a dryer, less humid cold, but still cold......and at altitude also.

 

I can't quite conceive of your potential work output in a year's time with "perfect climatic conditions"

A pretty scary thought for the rest of us older farts......

      I have a old gt14 and the plastic plates or control panels are way past their prime, and I saw someone was remarking them with a 3d printer a little while back and I was looking to se if I could find the file but no luck. If anybody has info that would be amazing. Thanks for your time and anything helps.

      I am currently doing a ring, piston, hone rebuild on a K 321 off a Ford LGT 145 Tractor  on this machine they actually welded the rails to the bottom pan (see pics). My intention here is to put this puppy in a red machine (312-8 or GT14). I definitely have the small pan with the expanded bottom for the long dipper.
      Here's my questions:
      > Can I carefully remove the rails from the pan, cutoff the old front axle mounting bracket(s) and then drill holes in  the flanges to mount  to the Wheel Horse rails.
      > Since the engine is side mounted will the expanded bottom fit between the standard Wheel Horse rails?
      > If not possible to make this old pan work what flat pan would work and do I need to get the expanded bottom one (big dipper}
      > any recommendations here would be appreciated don't want to go down to many blind holes here...….

      Saw a gt14 for a really good price on Craigslist yesterday went and looked at it last evening, ended up buying it . It’s a 68 or 69 gt14 but I’m not exactly sure which. It’s in decent condition and seems to be complete. It has a really nice complete three point hitch and a really nice three point tiller. I didn’t think the seat and muffler were original but I looked at a manual and it turns out they are. I’m gonna try to get it running for the big show but if I don’t I will still take it. The best part is I bought it from a super nice guy that knows a lot about wheel horses. Some of you might know him, his name is Less, sorry didn’t catch his last name. He has been going to the wheel horse show since the beginning and personally knew Cecil and Betty Pond. He used to have 74 tractors but he narrowed it down to his favorite three. Overall it was a really good day. I got to meet a really nice guy, get another tractor and hear some good stories. Here are a few pictures of the gt14 and tiller. I am gonna start working on it this Sunday.

      Sooo about three months ago I had a friend of a friend pass to me the most needy Wheel Horse GT14 Tractor I had ever seen, it was completely taken apart every single part had rust and two coats on oil paint one blue and one yellow. parts were missing and of course there was no labeling of parts or assembly there-of. All wiring, gauges, rectifiers were removed and non existent….. still the machine was calling to me to try and do the almost impossible...… My thanks to Aldon for parts and support and Kyle for Technical help and shoulder to cry on. ….  The only saving grace of the entire project is that the engine and tranny were indeed still good...… in fact the only remaining issue I have on the machine is that I cannot free-up the relief valve so that I can move the machine w/o power..... I think this might be stuck forever … but not the end of the world.
