T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,337 #1 Posted December 1, 2016 I have thinking I want one of these, so I have been sort of casually looking, on Craig's List and other online venues. I found this one. It's a bit far, maybe 3 to 4 hour drive one way. Supposed to be a 1995 with 998 hours on it. Price is not bad. Says it's a nice unit. I sent them a message asking for some more info. Maybe I can talk the wife on us making the trip to bring it home.

Sparky-(Admin) 19,439 #3 Posted December 1, 2016 Looks good in the pics Terry. Any maintenance history? Isn't there a de-carboning task that needs to take place periodically on the Onans? Is it at the 1000 hour mark....if so that's where that machine is at. Mike.........
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,337 #4 Posted December 1, 2016 Mike, I'm not sure on the maintenance history. I'm sure there isn't any, or at least, none that's available now. But, who knows. Sometimes you get all the original paperwork and maintenance history on these used units, though most of the time, you don't.

wrightorchid 261 #6 Posted December 1, 2016 It sure looks clean, and not like it sat outside, and abandoned. I'd say go for it.

clueless 2,898 #8 Posted December 1, 2016 3 to 4 hour one way trip, I've done that a few times just to get a good gallon of shine. If the price is right just do it.
Zeek 2,284 #9 Posted December 1, 2016 That sure looks like it was well taken care of, heck the deck isn't even dinged up and scratched. That may be worth the drive
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,337 #10 Posted December 1, 2016 I think convincing the wife to make the trip is half the battle. The first half would be, "Yes, dear, go get it!" instead of, "Why do you need another one for?!" Obliviously I don't need it, but want it.

Usually followed with "Where are you going to put it." Ugh! They just don't get it.
rmaynard 14,861 #12 Posted December 1, 2016 If it's not a financial burden on the household, go get it. It's always easier to ask forgiveness than to ask for permission.
Wishin4a416 2,185 #13 Posted December 1, 2016 That looks like a real nice machine. Good Luck! Would love to have that bagger.
608KEB 794 #14 Posted December 1, 2016 (edited) Looks well kept. Those are the ones you want. Kept inside more than likely. Decarbonizing at 1000 hours is correct. Also clean the sock and adjust the valves.it was easier than I thought. I did 2 of mine last summer! I'd buy it. If they are taken care of expect many more hours on that engine. The onans have lots of power! They also steer easy with the gear reduction and swept front axle. Edited December 1, 2016 by 608KEB

Funny, I got that line last night, "Where are you going to put them", as I was talking about trading for two more Wheel Horses.
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,337 #19 Posted December 4, 2016 Sometimes my wife surprises me. Yesterday morning I told her about the 520-H that we're talking about in this thread and she said, "go get it!". I asked them to make a little video of it running and they did. I'm going after it in the next couple of weeks.
