Maxie 9 #1 Posted August 17, 2016 (edited) Could someone please tell me what this part is and show me where it goes? I took it off my tractor 2 years ago when I started fixing it up and I can't remember where it goes. (It's an age thing.) Thanks. elcamino/wheelhorse 9,039 #5 Posted August 17, 2016 I have been working on my 416-8 and wondered what the heck it was. Will it hurt and anything if I don't replace it ?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,493 #6 Posted August 18, 2016 This style is just an air shock. I washed the dust and dirt out of it and it works good. There is a spring in it so lubed with real light oil to stop rust. The oil does attract more dust but easy to wash out. Garry
Maxie 9 #7 Posted August 18, 2016 It's for a 1991 312-8 Classic.

Racinbob 10,276 #11 Posted August 18, 2016 That is one of the methods they used to try and prevent sudden engagement. It's just one of the many safety devices that were added as the years went by. I had a hydraulic damper on my 2005 and it drove me nuts. I can't recommend removing any safety device but on my tractors I just use the spring that has worked well for decades.
