Wheel Horse 953 resto and DIESEL SWAP

Recommended Posts

JamesC-120

I bought a 953 a few months ago and I got a killer deal on a 10hp Chinese diesel. So I decided to swap in the diesel since the old 10 horse was getting tired. I started this project about 3 weeks ago and have most things ready to be put together but not everything is painted. I also did a 8 pinion swap in the trans. I have taken many pictures through out. One of my questions is my hydraulic cylinder and my pump both leak badly. Is there anywhere to get new seals?

This manual may help with the hydraulics.

Looking good James! What are you using to hold the frame up for painting?

I got the transmission all together today and painted all the steering and front axle and spindles. My original steering wheel was messed up and hacked up by somebody. So I made a chain steering wheel. It was actually really easy to make and I think it looks great. I'll have to see how much I like it once it's on the tractor. New rear tires are coming tomorrow!!! And fronts on the way!

I used a small strap to hold it up and hooked it through a small hole on the back of the fenders.

Looks great James. I really like the chain steering wheel and the skinnier taller Ag tires. What size are they?

I was really never happy with any ag tires that were available for the 15" rim so I bought some 14" rims that look exactly the same as the old one and put 7-14 Carlisle farm specialists on them. The new tires are actually 1/2" shorter than the originals but they are about 1" wider. I really like the 1" tall lugs on these tires, they look great.

Thanks for the manuals Gary. I'll start working on that soon. I got all the rest of the tractor together today and built my custom exhaust. Now I just need to build an air intake and find some new head lights.

I made my intake over the last couple days. I think it turned out great! I really like it. I also got the throttle hooked up and my new front tires showed up today. So they should be on by Saturday. And the decals are coming Saturday from redoyourhorse. Plus the new key switch is coming tomorrow. I took the hydraulic pump and cylinder apart and they all look great and in nice shape. So I will just paint and reseal. Do you guys know where to get new seals?

Thanks

I ordered the seals and got my new front tires and rims on. Also put on all the decals. All that is left now is hydraulics and headlights.

Got the hydraulics all finished and just need to mount the pump. I also ordered some new headlight lenses for the originals and a throttle knob. This tractor is a blast to drive and can't imagine not have a diesel. It rolls coal.
