Thanks for the update Ed. I sure love watching those eagles. Nature can be very cruel sometimes though. I sure wish them the best.

I just left the nest site at Lake Marburg.      A beautiful sunny 66 degree day to watch the eagles from across the lake...sorry I didn't have my camera.  I was surprised I was able to see the nest from nearly a mile away  w/o optics.

LOL.....gives new meaning to the name "bald" eagle.

While I'm here guys stupid question ....How do you tell the male from the female?

Female adults are larger that the males.  Of course you can only see the difference in size if they are both together.

There are subtle differences in the shape of the head, the length of the legs, and the shape of the bill and it's end point relative to the eye.Thumbnail

This female has a damaged enlarged left nostril opening that positively identifies her.

Almost impossible on the wing Jim.   The males tend to have longer legs and appear to be wearing trousers.

WHX??

Yes indeed, interesting how such a fierce looking bird can be such a devoted parent. Just out of curiosity any idea which direction that camera is pointing? east/west/north/south?

East,  late in the afternoon, you can see the shadow of the camera on the tree in the foreground.

Light snow here this morning, but I doubt if the nest will look like this.

Mom had to push Dad off the eggs this morning.

Go find your own warm eggs to sit on Honey.

Much concern for the Hanover nest.   Dad has been on the eggs since 3:40PM yesterday with no relief and no sign of Mom.  Not good with cold, wind and snow forecast.

Good news...Mom returned to the nest yesterday to relieve Dad.   Maybe she was out packing on the groceries in prep for the big storm Stella.  Hopefully Stella will be over before the eggs hatch next week.
