How To Make An 18 Automatic Into A 23 Automatique LSE

Thanks steelman, this frame is the best part of anything I have ever had powder coated.  Here are some more pics of the assembly of the front axle through the spindles. (I realize this may be a bit redundant, however; I am showing the Black frame edition this time.)

  1.) Front Axle

  2.) Grease zirks (2 pics)

3.) Edge Trim {non OEM, just added for protection} (2 pics)

  4.) Pivot Pin (2 pics)

  5.) Washers (2 pics)

  6.) Bolts and Lock Nuts

7.) Greased the center zirk here

  8.) Greased the axle/spindle opening (2 pics)

9.) Upper Thrust Washer (2 pics)

10.) Greased

11.) Thrust Needle Bearing

12.) Greased

13.) Lower Thrust Washer (2 pics)

14.) Greased

15.) Left Spindle (2 pics)

16.) Installed

17.) "E"-Clip

18.) Installed

19.) Ditto 8 through 18 for the Right Side {not shown}

20.) Greased the spindle zirks here

21.) Front axle complete

Next, are the Tie Rods and Steering Bell-Crank.

Thanks uncle, I was amazed how nice the powder coating turned out, I am only able to rattle can the rest, but; I am trying to do my best.

The next post may be awhile as one of the front tires is not holding air and I need to sort that out.

Had an issue with a leak in one of the front tires, after sanding the bead area on the rim, repainting, and reassembly of the tire to the wheel, I tested it in water and found out that the leak was due to a faulty core in the valve stem. I also was able to purchase a couple of the #104396 Ball Flange bearings {New Old Stock} but had already taken pics with the used before they arrived.

Next update, (if any - not really noticing much interest in these updates, compared to the amount of time, effort and expense required to produce a resto-mod of this magnitude} may be awhile as I have quite a bit of sorting to do with the hydro transaxle and dual ag tires / wheels before I can proceed.

Oh the interest is there! No worries. I know on threads like these, the long term projects, people sit back and watch. Especially since we have never gotten a big picture idea here, all the updates are just little parts and pieces. I think most people are just lying in wait of the reveal... Or a least a bit more of a "zoom out" so to speak.

I know I religiously check in, but I have not much to say until i get an idea of what is all going on here! But either way, I am looking forward to what is to come! :handgestures-thumbupright:

Just as a last note, replies aren't always what shows the interest level, make sure to check out your view count... I see over 2100 views here!

Thanks Richie, I am keeping at it, this next part, the transaxle, will be the most challenging, as I have never rebuilt a hydro before.

Assembled the Parking brake / pawl and seal, to case half.  I was not able to get the 5959 seal, but I did use a new one for the shaft.  Next is the axle seals.

Thanks Paul, I was not able to get a 5959 but I was able to order a couple replacement seals from a fellow member of RS.  These did not have the metal surround but they are essentially the same size I.D & O.D in a bit less thickness.

Found out that the set screw is just a plug, it serves no purpose. This was told to me by the gentleman who designed the forward-swept axle that Wheel Horse liked and used.

I did not have all 4 bearings new {part #104396} just 2, these are no longer made that I know of.

I was surfing through eBay and saw the part # for this bearing, I could not believe the price... ... until I noticed it said SET OF 4 I also noticed it was a Buy-It-Now so knowing I only needed 2 more for a full set to complete the front of the resto-mod I "Bought-It-Then" as opposed to trying to buy just 2. The 2 remaining New Old Stock bearings will be spares.

I still need the 2 nyloc bolts {part #908033-6 or simply 908033}, I am just using non OEM until???

Thanks, Paul, the manual states the specs are for 3/8" - 16 x 7/8" did you use the 3/4" or the 1"?

I have bought a box of both.  The one inch will usually work if it bottoms I add a shim or two.  Have used the 3/4 also doubt eh 1/8" makes a difference.

Aldon, You are welcome.  I have more pics; but, I may have met the max limit or something,  Tried to purchase R.S. support; but, stated,"  You are only allowed to purchase one of this product, and you have already done so."  Don't know what I am doing wrong...
