Hello,

I was wondering if anyone out there familiar with the 9.5 horse Kohler engine that came in the Wheel Horse 953 could tell me what the ignition points gap should be set at?

Thank you.

Thanks for the welcome all!  Also, thank you very much for the gapping measurement 953 nut!

I have another question if no one minds.

Does anyone know of a good parts source for 953's?

I'm looking for two headlights, a grill and a new muffler.

Thank you.

The 953 is virtually identical to the 1054 series, so keep that in mind when youre looking.

I recently finished a extensive rebuild on my 1054 so I can relate to the lights, grill and muffler. For the lights I used a couple vehicle work lights from Harbor frt and adapted them to fit. You can also find these at many other stores...

The grill I used a piece of expanded metal I had in my scrap pile that had small openings.

For the muffler I just used a standard 'muffin' or 'biscuit' one.

This is a pic of the lights, but I had to go back and remove the rubber housings - they interfered with the air cleaner, but the method of mounting ended up being the same.

That looks realy good!  I'll do that also.  Have you noticed any rubbing or chipping on the front of the headlights? Are they resting right against the metal housing inside?

I know the question has been answered, but I wanted to comment that if you don't have feeler gauges, my grandpa taught me that the thickness of your spark plug box is perfect for setting points gap - it's worked for me with any small engine I've touched since we did our first tune up.  Good way to remember Grandpa too, playing outside in the garage.

5 big wheels, in various forms or stages.  One with melted wiring, one runner, one in need of an engine, one full project and one in the middle of nap time.  @953 nut thanks again for turning on my big wheel switch!

Got a 953 and 414-8 from Big Red Fred the other day. Got a great deal on both of them. Both run great and I am very pleased with them. Got the 414 for my grandpa and the 953 was just to good of a deal to pass up, so now I got another tractor in my collection

This 953 that we have dubbed “Hot Wheels has quickly become a go to tractor for myself... and my kids especially!  The increased visibility, the feeling of a big tractor, the hydraulics, who knows what really makes it so different from the rest.  Now that the Magnum 12 roars to life so easy, it’s that more attractive to jump on and take a stroll or do some chores!

Here are some pictures from this morning, checking my food plot after some sprinkler time and a few days of good soaker rain showers.  I’ll try to keep this thread active as photo ops present themselves.

I wanted to show off my 953 i bought last year from the original owners son. I am very proud to own this piece of great american engineering. It was bought local in kendallville indiana the building is still standing where this tractor was sold. I got the greatest deal on it. It came with a snow blade, snow blower and a mower deck. i have since sold the snow blower because it was for a much newer horse. i am an originalist. This tractor i was told has only had an axle seal fixed and his dad many years ago slapped a new coat of paint on it. that is it never been rebuilt or anything else. It is one of my prizes horses.

Boys, having problems with the front wheel alignment on my 1054a.  Seems as tho the tie rod is about 1/2" or so too short causing the front tires to pigeon toe.  Tore everything apart can find nothing wrong or bent.  According to WH parts diagrams, the 953 and 1054 tie rods are the same part number.  Perhaps one of you good fellas could give me the measurements of your tie rods so I can verify mines the correct length?  Maybe something else Im missing here?

      Thanks,
      Mike
