K321AS white smoke

Recommended Posts

Tom.

Hi all,

I have a kohler 14hp K321AS on my C141 and it runs OK but it bellows out white smoke. It doesn't smoke too much at the start but after 30 seconds it smokes quite a bit. It's white smoke coming out of the exhaust. Why is this? Am I right in thinking it may be the piston rings? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

Challenger

Black Smoke = running rich.

Blue Smoke = may need piston rings.

White Smoke = tractor used to belong to Pope Francis !!!

( I sure hope y'all have a sense of humor. NO disrespect intended)

Lol @ Challenger.

Tom, White smoke is indeed burning oil!

The fact that it gets worse as the engine warms up does meann it is time for at least a "freshen -up".

It could be worn rings or cylinder, it could also be coming from the valves.

Either way your going to have to tear it down to fix it, and honestly there is not a good way to tell what all needs done to the engine until it is disassembled and inspected. I have fixed that problem by simply installing valve guides and re-seating the valves or by a quick de-glazing of the cylinders and fresh rings, but then some engines I thought were going to be a "quick freshen" ended up needing full machine work.

Hi,

Hahaha thanks Challenger!

Thanks Rooster, I will have a look at the engine tomorrow and start to take it apart carefully and have a close look.. I will hope that it just needs a freshen up because it seems a really good engine. I will keep you updated.

Thanks,

Tom.
