WHEEL HORSE -FEATURED TRACTOR AT the South Jacksonville, Illinois -Prairieland Heritage Museum -Sept. 2013

Recommended Posts

Lane Ranger

Looks like WHEEL HORSE is the featured Lawn and Garden Tractor this year at the Prairie Land Heritage Museum - Steam Show and Fall Festival Days held on September 27, 28 and 29th, 2013

This is a great show and thanks to Denny Clarke and Martin Howard and my brother David Ralph and I we had several wheel horse tractors displayed last year. There were NO Wheel Horse tractors at the Show in 2010 when I attended my first show.

Here is a photo of the Red Square members in attendance in 2012!

Excellent!  Stevasaurus told me some of this at Mentone Swap Meet in April!   This would be great as three years ago there was only one Wheel Horse at the show and it was a LAWN Mower not a Lawn Tractor!

I want to see all those great Minnesota Lawn Rangers and the other great tractors you guys have to add to the show!

Looks like a cool show, I will be planning on coming.  Maybe bring my 702 and POND walker with sulky.  We'll see if I  can get the sulky finished up.  Time will tell.

It might be a double header, on Jeff's with sulky's. I may be able to come and I now have a second Pond tractor and some attachments. One of them being a sulky which I put behind the unit with the sickle mower. If I can get someone to switch work weekend with me I'll be there.

So forgive me, I'm a planner.  Was looking up the show grounds for the Prairieland Heritage show.

Lane, or any of the other guys who've been before want to give us the layout?  I've placed map grids over this screen shot of the grounds.  Whereabouts do we set up/park, etc?

Good idea to get the plan of attack.  I was reading some place where they lock the gates at 7am. Not sure if I want to carry my stuff into the grounds from a parking lot. So who knows the details of this show?

Jason- Good planner prep!

E-1 is the entrance  doe the lawn and Tractor folks to display.

G, H, I and J  - 1 areas are the lawn tractor, mowers, and small engine display areas  -AND last year the show had an area closest to Michigan Avenue roped/or snow-fenced off for parking trucks and small trailers)    However they have some other areas for larger, longer trailers with trucks also.   Not sure where that is going to be this year.

Mike Hall is the Co-Chairman of the Show.  He is also the Lawn and Garden Tractor guy for the show.  He has a small RV trailer set up at the entrance of the  G-1 grid area with a canopy/tent for signing in and getting credentials, buttons/badges and exhibitor tags.    Most of the area for display is roped off with metal stakes/rods.

The traffic ways are wide enough for two/trucks and trailers to pass etc.  They let you have ample time for loading and unloading and setting up in designated areas.    I asked Mike to try and get a larger area designated for Wheel Horse but have not heard back from him yet.   We had a very nice display with Martin Howard, Denny Clarke and Lane and David Ralph on the second row at the very beginning of the G-1 area last year.   I asked if we could perhaps get that again -only larger!

PS:  That big ring in the center of the area for the show is the steam railroad track!

Excellent report!! I can confirm that I will be there with two walk aways , a sickle mower, a sulky, and a plow. I'll bring one of my 10x10 easy ups, so for who ever is planning out the spaces needed, that what size I would like. I wont be there until early Saturday morning.  See you men on then.

Last year was my first year to attend this show, if I remember correctly grids K L and M are parking. I was able to park my truck and trailer there and entered the show grounds through a gate located at the bottom center of grid J2.

Hello all. I am looking for suggestions on adapting the pto from my C series tractor to a harbor freight predator 420 13hp engine. I know the predator motors are a controversial topic however it is the route I have chosen for this particular machine. The intent was to mostly use it for plowing so no PTO required but it would be handy to have. Looking to hear from someone that has successfully done the swap that may offer any advice before I attempt to transfer it over. Just looking for any general pointers that will help me along the way to make it go as smoothly as possible.

I am new to this group. I have my sons collection of Wheel Horse tractors that are definitely rare models. He still has one to pick up that’s dual wheel and was purchased from Peabody Coal Co. This is the perfect site to get involved with. The best advice comes from folks that are hands on.. had to be their own machine shop. Nothing compares to the knowledge in this group.! But my first topic is this 19hp Craftsman INDY 500 limited edition model. I was reading a topic on here about the 18hp and 20hp models, but cannot find a single replica of this tractor on ANY site or e-bay. We live near central Ohio, so I’m assuming it’s a regional release. The Briggs engine lobes like a medium cam in a V8. We thought it was an intermittent miss, but it’s not missing a bit. The engine is the strongest riding tractor I’ve ever operated. It will literally cook the deck belt in high grass before dragging the engine down. Very wide and lower to the ground. I never got the size, but the rearend is all tires.! Looks like a dragster from behind.. almost  gives the appearance of shortened axle tubes in a hot rod. Just wondering if anybodys ever seen this particular model. My next top is will be about the C160 total hydraulic Wheel Horse he just acquired. Claim they were specially made for snow removal.

New to the forum, but not to Wheel Horse. I just bought a 314-8 on the gear shift pattern there is what Toro calls a spring shift control, my 312-8 doesn't have this The 314 is a 1999, what was the purpose for this. Thanks.
