I joined this forum about a week after I repainted it. But I have been thinking about doing a build thread from the beginning to where it is now which has been modified more and more slowly over the last 2 years.

This post needs more pix, so here goes.

Our Charger 12 with pipe exiting  lower front.  This is good, keeps fumes away from my face and it's quiet too.

Who knows if this exhaust is factory original for the Techy?

To all - the thread did start with show me your stacks.. I asked the question about single vs. dual, tque, and hp gain or loss. Geno jumped in and gave his "expert" opinion on exhaust. I am no expert when it comes to exhaust temp, pressures, mph, ect. in the cat. chambers of exhaust. But I do consider myself somewhat expierenced when it comes to what creates optimal torque and hp in engines. Each application is as different as the grains of sands. Nitro, turbo's, blowers, superchargers, jets, positive displacement vs. centrifigual displacement. I know we all know about this. I know, being anal on my part..... Just have to look past tonight. Being A LOT ANAL!

This thread was started to give us all a chance to "show" our stacks and maybe give other a few ideas. The question about HP, torque, single vs dual, gain loss etc.... has taken this thread way off its intended path.

If ANYONE has a question on HP, torque or anything else engine related please start a new thread in the proper category (Engines).

I'll will be cleaning up this thread.

Please keep it on topic.

Here is my dad's first C-175(I believe. He changed the hood and fenders). It had straight pipes. Sounded good but loud when you were sitting on it. Thanks to Lane for the photos. Dad could never figure out how to post them, lol.

It should only depend on the extensions that your browser can handle. Not so much the forum itself.

Nice stacks Koen!

I tried to upload it here but I got an error.  It would be nice if it would work here somehow, I've never used youtube or anything like that.

Geno...do you have Photobucket??  Either way it is free, but you need to set up an account.  If you use Photobucket...start an account...then log in to upload your video...once uploaded, go to the folder you loaded it into...highlight the video (a box will pop up with 4 choices)...choose the IMG code and copy...then go to your thread and paste the link.  U-Tube works pretty much the same way, except you are just copying the link and pasting it in your thread...once you set up an account and have uploaded the video.  :)  Make sure you use the share (or public) function in your account.

Hey AJ, thanks but my Little Phillie wants to try do it.  I hate to email you all the time asking you to do 10 more.  :laughing-rolling:

Ok Steve, here goes.  :)   It's not right I don't think but it works.  The engine is actually as loud as the exhaust.

Finally got the stack installed, getting that threaded pipe out of the head needed a little persuasion but all went well, and it looks fantastic thanks to Jim Kemp!

I am in the process of restoring a 72 Raider 8 and decided I would beef it up a bit with a custom stack. Currently the motor is out of the tractor and am waiting for a rod, piston, cam shaft and bearing set. Motor was in total self destruct mode when the previous owner didn't check the oil 🙄🤦🏼‍♂️ So I made this stainless stack out of sch 5, 2 inch pipe and reduced to 1". Decided I didn't like to looks of threaded pipe so I found a couple valve parts to act as the flanges, and am going to weld the other flange to a threaded nipple and screw into the engine block. Let me know what you think! Trying to decide if I should leave it flat, mitre it or weld a turnout on it!
      Jake

Also, I'm going to hold out for now until I can hear it run straight piped, but considering rolling a stainless screen down to 1" and packing gap between the stack and the screen with muffler packing. Has anyone else ever done this? Looking for ideas and comments are welcome!

What started out as a simple task of moving my 6-1/2' x 12' utility trailer to unload it's contents back into the Shed Repair Project after building a new floor turned out to be a really bad day . I figured the weight of the trailer and it's load was probably around 2,500lbs or more and the big D-180 should be able to handle it . Used the 3pt hitch and an adapter to lift the trailer tongue and off I went...until I got to the end of the north drive and the pump coupling on the hydro failed - badly . In hindsight - the trailer probably weighed closer to 4,000lbs the way it felt behind the truck ...

Now , the trailer had to be taken off the tractor and put on it's jack ....which didn't work out too well loaded that heavily . Since the trailer was built with 2x3 angle iron on the tongue it decided to fold itself into a pretzel - despite the wheels being blocked tight so it couldn't move . It fell over and I had to use the HI-Lift to get it off the ground . The sight of the trailer falling over in the rear view camera on the Dodge is still well embedded in my memory - I knew that was going to be another large project .

The coupling had an earlier repair from last winter's failure - so a pto pin was driven through the hole to get it out back to my work area to be fixed later . It made the short trip , but just barely and the tow valve was frozen tightly . As it turned out , the damage to the D was a much bigger issue..and cost 3 times as much in total .

The pic doesn't do the damage any justice - that entire tongue was bent badly -

Sand blasted , new tongue built and waiting for paint -

Painted , as it sits now awaiting the lights , wiring and re-install the floor decking .

All the while - got more work done on the D's pump problem . Found a great used pump , as well as a spare coupling in good shape . After a lot of machine work ($$$) we came up with a solution and everything was back together...

After all this I found that both the original mufflers were completely shot and falling apart - so another project ...

Bought a pair of 180* mandrel bends , two cone transitions and a pair of @jimkemp 8" mufflers (very nice, btw) . Fabricated the flanges for the engine's exhaust ports , as well as the pipes for the stacks -

Spent a lot of time rolling the engine over on the starter to slowly prime the pump back up and finally , after several months - fired Big Ugly to test the exhaust before painting the stacks . No leaks from the hydro thanks to some new o-rings and backer rings from @pfrederi on the hydro manifold , that was a big relief .

A bit shocked at the sound of the big opposed twin - somewhat like a Harley running on the choke or something - but overall not obnoxious or too loud ....

If you don't want to wait for the MP4 to load - here's the YouTube link -

I don't think the camera's microphone will show the sound too well , but so far I like it . Took a ride around the block , nice having this beast back up and running , finally . Now to finish that dumb trailer....pretty much wasted nearly the whole summer getting all of this done plus the hours at work . I'm about ready for a break but need to get ready for winter .

      Hi all!

I'm a new member from Sweden taken the first ride of the year just yesterday. I have a Commando 7 which I am upgrading in a very slow pace to a Commando 8 buying one piece at the time as they pop up.

I've just finished a transmission overhaul, replacing wheel axles, seals and bearings. Thanks to Terry M for supplying the axles, I could not have found them in Europe.

Currently the seat is at the upholsterers. I've got a seat cover with slight damages from Fun Engineer, thank you very much. The cover will be used as is or as a template, it is not decided yet.

Also, I have new bolted front wheels laying around waiting for mounting, that might be the next thing done to this horse.

      Best regards,
      Johan
