What Are You Listening To?

Recommended Posts

I listen to all kinds of music, except most current “songs”. Found this band last year, and have been listening to them on Pandora since I found em. They’re a Swedish band that does historical/warfare themed songs. This one is about the final face off between imperial forces and the rebelling Samuria. They have many more songs that are just as good, thought I’d share.

Well played sir!!!

I haven't thought about the group Firehouse in quite a long time. I used to like them a lot. Obviously I still do. :-).

Thank you for posting that.

@ebinmaine  I listened to them back when they came out but I only rediscovered them flipping through my ITunes and turned them on. Then I went to Amazon music and pulled them up and found three albums I didn’t even know they had put out. Needless to say I haven’t heard a song yet that was bad. Very talented group.👍

16 years ago when we got married, my wife had Firehouse's "Love of a Lifetime" played on our way out of the church. Not my cup o'tea, but a good memory.

(I had no idea a guy could sing that high!!)

Yeah he can get up there. I believe the lead singer for Steelheart can go higher. Either one hurts my ears when they go up there. 👍

Of all of the high singers, I like Steve Perry (Journey) the best.

My absolute FAVORITE music is from the Allman Brothers Band.

Steve Perry has some pipes. Still does at almost 70 years old. Just put out a new solo album. Sounds pretty good too.

Jeff Beck - Live at Ronnie Scott's

Jeff Beck is one of three monster guitarists to come out of The Yardbirds (Beck, Eric Clapton, & Jimmy Page).

Beck is performing in this video in a recorded live performance at a small club.

Clapton is a guest player on a couple of songs in the latter 20% of the video.

If one looks closely and intently, you'll catch a glimpse of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin in the audience.

Beck himself is strictly an instrumentalist, and he is a much more eclectic guitarist than Clapton or Page.

He ventures into some jazz, fusion, reggae, and other free form styles. But his rock/blues roots always are revealed and revisited.

What is interesting to me is his style of playing..........he's a "finger picker", and primarily a thumb picker........a la Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler .

But he's also a slide player, so the mix of his picking style, with his virtuosity is simply stunning.

If you aren't familiar with him and his playing, watch his hands. There are tons of great close up shots of his dexterity and fluidity.

He can absolutely blow your socks off with his power, yet he can be stunningly melodic, quiet, and almost whispering whenever he wishes.

Great side players with him. Especially the small gal playing bass.

Long session, but very entertaining, IMO.

Another one of my long-time favorites.

I had a friend back in the late 80s...

Back in school he himself had a VERY serious high singing voice with no desire to further himself with it.

He knew he could sing ok. That was it for him.

Hadn't seen him for a while. Maybe 5 years.

Maybe later 90s at this point.

He says he'd been Hanging with a band because of another guy I knew from school. ( Who also could sing, but well enough to start his own band... another story)

They were Chilllin. Relaxing. Went to studio's and visited quite a bit with them when they were in the New England area.

Kind of messed around singing a little with them.

I'm like who??

He says..........

STEELHEART  !!!!!

Man oh man....

I might've been a little envious.

WOW! Lead and bass lines, simultaneously, on two different necks, and occasionally switching necks to perform the opposite line.

:bow-blue:

Clapton, Page, Beck, and Bonamassa might be able to learn a few licks from this guy.

Shazaam!

If you like acoustic.... how about Michael Hedges? I got to see him back in the 80’s as he was becoming more known. Awesome talent.... died too young in 1997 in a car wreck.

I am listening to Baby Its Cold Outside.  Some stations now refuse to play it because of #metoo.  Now there are a lot of serious issues brought up by #metoo but like most everything these days the PC crowd goes to extremes.  By the way they are against Rudolph the red nosed reindeer as it involves bullying...Give me a break.  These people need to get a life and grow some skin.

Go Paul !!!

Agreed.

Oh yeah. You know what else Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer involves?

Winning.

He was down. He was being picked on. He came back.

He was the leader.

Yepp....
