Electric "G gauge" Garden Railroad

Great picture. Where do you have your layout?

Thanks Bob!

that photo was actually on my Dad's garden railroad..(which I helped build)

Dad passed away 2 years ago..I now have all his trains, and that railroad in the photo no longer exists..(it was near Waverly, NY, my hometown)

im working on building my own Garden railroad, but its in the very early stages, and actually, im putting it on hold for now, because I will likely be laid off soon..

but eventually I will get it built! :thumbs2:

This comes up every now and then... I merged this with an older hobbies topic (that was also previously merged) so be sure to go back and catch up from the beginning!

@rmaynard - Bob, that is a beautiful cabinet. Did you keep it or was it built for someone? I too enjoy a little woodworking once in a while. Here's a project I did for my wife a few years back. A re-purposed antique icebox into a 30 bottle winebar for the living room. (Steve, you want the plans? :ychain: )

Beautiful work Bob :banghead::banghead:

My Dad is 80 now but for the past 20 years he has been restoring

hoosier and Sellers cupboards for people.

I have seen them bring in a sagging rotten base with no top

and say it was my mothers can you fix it? His attention to detail and his finish

are as good as any and better than most.

I can see from this photo that you my friend are also a master.

very very nice. :thumbs2:

Boating is my bigest time user. I have been on the water for 82 years. also went to school by boat. I have run boats from maine to fla. I am still envoled with a marina. Ham radio also (w1rgw) takes some of my time. I worked part time at a wheel horse dealer back in the 50's and 60's. I have had about 40 wheel horses over the years. I retired 17 years ago and still don't have the time to do things I want to do. Russ :thumbs2:

@CasualObserver - That one was built for someone else. It was patterned after one the I restored back in 2002. Here is the link to that one.

Restoration Story.

@vinylguy52 - I have probably restored about 20 or more over the years. Some were basket cases that had been sitting in damp basements for decades. My favorite cabinet to restore was by far the Seller's brand.

As a side note, once I was seriously bitten by the Wheel Horse bug, cabinet making has taken a bit of a holiday. I still dabble in it from time to time.

Guess I'll chime in on this. currently i have far to many hobbies, especially while going to school full time and working. However, i just love to tinker with things and learn new skills.

I'm a gear head and love twisting wrenches. i guess it all started when i was 12 and dad went out and bought an 84 CJ7 to rebuild. had it finished for my 16th birthday.

658916_13_full.jpg

scan0005.jpg

after that i went out and bought my own jeep project. started as a CJ5 ended as a scrambler. this is how far i got before college started and money ran dry. traded it for a sandrail to play in the dunes with

DSC00718.jpg

engine004.jpg

Can't find a picture of my scrambler.... :/

DSC_0042.jpg

DSC_0044.jpg

That sand rail turned into this sandrail which after finding out despite its "awesome" factor, i never used it, thus time to trade for something new.

DSC_1049.jpg

in came the 95 wrangler YJ which after a year of tinkering and no use i finally sold (no trade!) and put the money towards school....

DSC_0284.jpg

So i consider that 1 maybe 2 hobbies there. I also love motorcycles. I have been buying, repairing and selling those for the last few years. got my first bike my freshman year of college. still have 5 bikes to my name :wh: here are a few

IMAG0042.jpg

So thats another...

I'm also a musician. Primarily a bassist but I also play guitar and have a drum set tucked away in the basement. I LOVE music and if it were a more profitable occupation i would have pursued it as more than just a side gig. That said it helps but a few extra dollars in the pocket.

IMAG0091.jpg

DSC_0082.jpg

I've recorded on a few albums, been in a few bands, played a few big shows. its a lot of fun. I like to customize my instruments and tweak them myself. I've built a few effects pedals and things of that nature. I love electronics so it works well. that leads me to my final major hobby right now. vintage audio equipment and music on vinyl

I collect vintage stereo equipment. I love analog music and how it all works. I have quite a few turntables, a few receivers, and about 300 vinyls? lost count. I am working on three different stereo setups. one from the 50s, 60s and 70s back when analog audio was prime. I recently started getting into the older stuff which is all tube audio. I just love the simplicity of the vintage circuits and the way they work. here are a few turntables, amps, tuners, etc.

DSC_0200.jpg

DSC_0197.jpg

IMG00002.jpg

well that was a long post. Being 23 and still living at home while finishing up college all this drive my parents crazy at some times... I have to many irons in the fire but hey, its better than playing video games and sitting on the couch right?

(if anyone has any old unused audio gear, tubes, vinyls, etc.... hit me up, i can find them a new home :dunno:)
