dobeleo 7 #1 Posted May 24, 2011 I borrowed my neighbors old Sears Craftsman Roto Spader / Tiller and am cleaning it up for him. This machine is a little beast for its age. My question, what type of oil is in the transmission? I am sure it has never been changed. I could not find a manual anywhere. It has a lever shifter on it for high and low tilling speed and reverse. I could not find the manual on the Sears website, too old. I would date this machine from the 70's. The frame is gold in color. It looks like it has a 5 or 6 horse engine. dobeleo 7 #2 Posted May 26, 2011 I went to my neighbors house, who loaned me the tiller, and told him I changed the oil ad was going to wash it before I brought it back. perry 82 #3 Posted May 26, 2011 your good deed payed off i have one of them roto-spaders. it should take 80W gear lube. pull the plug out and smell it. i got mine from my grampa . he must have tilled every ladys garden on the street. it has been well used and looks beat. the briggs engine runs , but spits and sputters, and smokes bad. still going and still tilling up dirt. i mostly only use to cultivate between rows. Believe it or not this 21 page manual is posted on the Wheel Horse.org website. dobeleo 7 #8 Posted May 28, 2011 Mine is a walk behind, but that is the gearbox it has on it! My friend has seen me working on my 312-A so he knew I would appreciate his old tiller. I will add a picture this weekend after I clean it up this weekend! 30 weight oil in the transmission per the manual. Thanks all for your comments!
