That was one of the most educational videos that I have seen in along time. It will help many who feel unsure about tearing into one much better about doing it. Thanks

Steve, thank you for taking the time to do this. Im going to make sure to save the whole thing because I know its going to come in handy. I am curious, does a 6 or 8 sp trans go together the same way for the most part? I have a damaged 6 speed that came out of my '70 Raider 10 that Im collecting parts for thats going to need my attention in a big way.

Thanks Steve!

John...yes the 6 and 8 speeds go together exactly the same way...in fact...they use the same gears. The only difference is the shallow side of the case has been milled out under where the shift forks go to make room for the Hi/Low shifter assembly. There are some great pictures of that in the Useful Post section. After putting in the Hi/Low stuff, the transmissions are the same.

Hey guys...thanks for all the great comments...I really appreciate them. :wh:

Steve,

Well done!

Photos are very useful, and there's lots of good ones on this site, but there's nothing like a good video to really experience and understand the process. I'll be watching yours again when it comes time to rebuild my own 8-speed.

Steve. Thanks so much for the phone call and the fine information you provided. Watched the video and I am in the mood to give it a shot.

I hope my response will be a positive one as some have had good luck. I am planning on pullimg it off the tractor tomorrow afternoon and break it apart Monday morning.

I will be in touch with the results.

Thanks once again Steve, for the great how to tutorial.

Can we get this moved to the technical section of the FAQ and Mechanical Tips, or at least pinned at the top of the trans thread so it's easier to find in the future? :thanks:

This is an awesome post! :text-goodpost: I had never seen this before, but it sure would have been nice back when I had my 4speed apart. Can someone make a sticky out of this, so that it is easy to find? Great job Steve. :text-thankyoublue:
