B-8074 19 #4 Posted February 1, 2011 Not to be a party pooper. But wasn't there a big hurricane that hit New York in the 1920's or 30's? :banghead:

sscotsman 132 #6 Posted February 1, 2011 Yep, no hurricanes, or tornados, floods, earthquakes, forest fires, mudslides, or volcanos! Just 5 months of winter every year, and lots and lots of snow.. But even though winter is 2 months longer than it has any right to be, I still dont complain..because April-October are beautiful..some summers we dont even hit 90 degrees at all! I will take Rochester weather over Florida or Arizona any day.. I cant stand the heat..anything above 80 is getting uncomfortable, and anything above 90 is unbearable..So a little snow is a small price to pay for a beautiful climate the rest of the year.. bring on the snow! (one foot coming tomorrow..no biggie at all..) Scot
DoctorHfuhruhurr 130 #7 Posted February 2, 2011 The Northeast gets earthquakes and Tornado's. I know someone in Upstate NY who's house was completely wiped out by a Tornado leaving only the foundation. People were finding their family photos 10 miles away. http://www.seismo-watch.com/EQS/AB/2002/02.../020420.NY.html April 20, 2002 An earthquake measuring M 5.1 occurred early this morning in Upstate New York, shaking a wide area, breaking windows, cracking plaster and foundations, and tossing items from tables and shelves, but there have been no reports of injuries at this time. New York Governor George Pataki declared a state of emergency in Essex and Clinton counties near the Vermont and Canadian Borders.

Coadster32 793 #9 Posted February 2, 2011 Oh yeah, we do get hurricanes and tornados. :banghead:
VinsRJ 721 #10 Posted February 2, 2011 Well the good thing about one big snow storm after the other is................ Now that I think about it, there really isn't anything good about it at all Can't wait for the spring....... but then again there might be flooding due to this
sscotsman 132 #11 Posted February 2, 2011 The Northeast gets earthquakes and Tornado's technically maybe.. But Orlando florida also technically gets snow! maybe 1/4 inch every 20 years or so. thats about how relevant earthquakes and tornados are in western NY!
