Wheelhorse Racer

I'm in the process of building a wheelhorse Modified tractor to race with the Western Ontario Outlaws.

It will run an MV18 opposed Kohler engine, and 700 peerless tranny to a axle and sprocket set-up.

Here are some pics of what i have done.

With this frame I should be able to use the cannister or flat type PA bearing...

th_DSCF0107.jpg

This is the frame I'm using.. it is from a mid 80's Dynamark tractor.

All of the parts are used.. but still a great starting point for my tractor..

And yes the belt clears the tubes... the tubes on the inside are up against the pan and welded at the ends and to the pan..

Hey, welcome back to the site. I think it's been a while since I've seen a post from you. I'm not current with the racing scene so I don't have much input, but it does look interesting.

Here are some more pics i didn't put in the first post... I set the big kohler and tranny in place to see how big they are.. WOW

th_DSCF0104-1.jpg

The chain will line up perfect...

th_DSCF0107-1.jpg

The tranny lines up perfect.. I will run angle iron under the pan with holes to reinforce the chassis

th_DSCF0108.jpg

With a little mod to the running board, the headers will clear. and since this tractors axle is right at the front, it will also clear it too....

It will be getting a mid 80's Wheelhorse hood and fenders... it will represent the brand... trust me.. in the winners circle...

I'm using this chassis because it is what I had and it's light....

Thanks guys..

I have the rear axle in and almost ready to flip over and measure for the front axle.. i hope this will be sitting on it's wheels next week...

The Kohler Opposed MV18 is rated at almost 39 lb/ft of torque so this should jump off the line...

Well... I picked up my hood today.. so as soon as I have the front axle finished I can got that Kohler in and start on the hood supports..

th_DSCF0110-1.jpg

I sat the axle in so I can drill and tap the holes for the bolts to hold the bearings in place..my daughter came in to inspect my welds... she thinks they should hold.. LOL

The rims are just sitting there.. I haven't set the track width yet..

My cat DJ (Dale Jarrett) was inspecting the disc and the plates to make sure everything would work as expected... LOL

I got the axle mounted and worked on the brakes... The bottom bolt is not on the caliper in this picture.. but the hole is there...

I got my front axle in... I didn't lower the front too much because I didn't want excessive rake in the chassis...

I got to sit on it.. and WOW.. it's really short.... this might be a handful.... LOL..

Thats looking pretty intense....can't wait to see it done & hope you can shoot a video also when it's done?

How high do you intend to set the seat & rear fenders?

I'm guessing you stay as low as possible.

Worked today on the hood mounts at the back of the hood to the column... and decided the tractor needed a deck.. so out came my cutting wheels and this is what I ended up with....

I know that the discharge is on the wrong side and facing forward.. but there is a reason for that... It gives me a flat spot for my foot on the left side and it matches up with the curve at the front so that's how it will stay...
