Beating the Burn Ban

Recommended Posts

lynnmor

Our York County officials declared a burn ban starting Friday, so I hastily tried to do some leaf cleanup and burn.  Well the lawn sweeper lost a tire and I couldn't find one locally so I decided to mulch the leaves.  That plan didn't get off the ground, the stupid low hour 25 HP Kohler starter blew up.  Why would they think that attaching parts inside a starter with glue would be a good idea?

Mulching or composting is safer than burning and much more environmentally friendly. I have been collecting and composting leaves for years and the compost is free garden gold.

Nice place to find fish bait after a year or so too.

I understand that, but the quantity of leaves is way too much and would make an enormous pile.

I mulch with my recycler deck. Blow the remnants into a pile. Then set my Flowtron Leaf eater in my dump cart and fine mulch those remnants. Drive to the garden and dump. Great way to spend a nice fall day.

We used to have burn restrictions where we lived near the city.  It was a pretty upity place to live.  No bonfires were allowed, but cooking fires were.  Well, I could have a cooking fire big enough to light up my back yard for the night, I just needed some burgers and marshmallows nearby!

Glad I burned the trash yesterday.          I don't have a leaf problem.     A North wind usually deposits them on the field behind me.
