Yes, the Amish are migrating West to York County as the farmland in their native Lancaster County is selling for over $20K/ acre.

From what I see, cash is not a problem.   Just counting the sweet corn and canteloupe plants on the 26 acre truck farm adjacent to me, I think he is close to seven figures in sales.

And this doesn't count the  pumpkins, cabbage,  califlour, brocolli, and flowers.    I know, I can't spell vegetables.

It’s not easy, but that’s why we bought the 100 acres from Grandpa.  The farm lease helps, but I need to get the land contract paid for before I can make any improvements.

Last week  the foundation was laid and the deck was on.      Noon today they had three 18' high walls up.

They don’t mess around, do they?

That's a little different for the Amish, isn't it?  Any idea why?

It is different for this area.    Why?      :confusion-confused:

My little bit of exposure to some Amish contractors that I've met over the years tells me that there's a very good practical reason for that choice, probably related to the building's intended use.  I don't know why a dairy/cheese operation would necessarily need a roof like that, but what do I know? :confusion-shrug:

What did surprise me was the lack of an access to the top floor on high side of the hill.   Instead it looks like an access opening to the bottom level.    They must plan to move a lot of ground  and make a large flat area all around the barn.

Amish construction crew?  That Sky Lift has rubber tires on it.  Might be a sub contractor.

You sure live in a beautiful area there Ed! The Amish country in PA is one thing I'm grateful I was able to see a lot when I was living up there.

Are there any Amish in the area of The Big Show ?

When I was up last year, I noticed the beautiful countryside, farms, and large barns…

A gambrel roof will provide a lot of useable storage space and requires less roofing material than a gable roof.

I'm not aware of any Amish farms close to the Big Show, but the round barn just West of the show is worth a visit.

It was a dairy barn with a central silo with some interesting design and construction history.

It is now operating as a fruit, veggie, craft sales.
