1975 C160 Automatic Restoration

Spent some time this morning making a plow angle rod that would be super tight and last for eons. 

Heim joints.  

 

 

 

 

We also swapped the rear axle bracket.  The old plow frame had a removable cross bar, this one doesn't. Because this one is welded in place the home shop made bracket which holds the plow frame on the OUTSIDE of the frame isn't an option.  

No worries. 

We only have ½ dozen other brackets around... 😂

 

After that we made an up/down 🔗🔗🔗 chain for the plow frame.  

I found an old hunk of snow tire chains that were past worn out. Trina used a Big screwdriver to open the ends and remove 2 cross chains. 

I cut out a section of side chain about 14, 15 inches long. 

Sliced 2 links off the end after a trial fit and used a punch to open the ends for a ⅜ bolt. .. it sets nicely.  No more movement from a sloppy ⅜ pin so the holes won't wallow out more.  

 

 

 

We then disassembled the rest of the pivot points. 

New bolts and hardware. Extra washer in between things. 

Nylock nuts holding everything together.

Well folks.   

 

I'm declaring this project "Done for now"!!

 

 

 

 

 

I finished up the wiring. Bunches of white light forward and reverse.

Plenty of flashing amber for the road. 

Some up front side bling too!

 

The plow angle tightening works awesome!

 

The Wood lever knobs are in the perfect places. 

 

There'll be many adjustments and changes over the years.  

 

I'll need to determine the actual source of a minor  transmission leak.

Also fix a side gasket.   

 

I'd like to add a plow frame side stabilizer and plow feet.

It's not done it that Read Headed Horse doesn't light up. and you may need a Flux-capacitor with all thoes lights.

My knee sets just to the outsides of where the motion control lever and hydro lift lever are.

We went to the barn yesterday looking for tools for another project. 

Smelled gas.....

 

Turns out the cheap 💩  primer bulb was nearly split open. 

 

Well we sidelined whatever else was happening long enough to remove the fuel lines, primer, and filter and let the system drain.

While doing that Trina discovered that the fuel tank shut off valve was leaking in the OFF position. 

 

This afternoon I ordered better quality parts.  

 

 

 

I have 4 of these on the way and three Attwood brand Marine Primers.

Well I got the Ole girl running again today.  

All new Briggs "low perm" rubber lines, Aircraft Spruce valve, Stens filter, Attwood  primer bulb, all held on with good quality hose clamps.

Also getting the plow stabilizer ready for installation.

More improvements done today on the Big Wiiiiide 60" @wallfish bilt plow blade.  

 

I got some used round feet from @Wayne0 just recently.  

Made a couple smaller brackets with some angle stock I'd had delivered by The HD for use on the side wings project.  Went a different route so these were available.  

 

 

That bracket is bolted right through the ridiculously rugged skid steer plow cutting edge.  

 

 

Here's the plow stabilizer as installed. 

It was built originally for a tractor with stock sized 16" tires. Mine has 20" fronts. 

I added a little height to the bracket hoping the stabilizer will be long enough to stay in place on downward drops.  

 

 

 

I laid out a coating of Fluid Film for corrosion protection and free movement.  

@peter lena would be happy with that and also these heim joints which are on the angle control.

@ebinmaine   good going on that  !  glad to see you  making improvements , like the plow drop support , just makes sense  , wait a minute , YOU CAN,T DO THAT !  HEIM JOINTS ON PLOW SWING LEVER ? what's going on ?  like the angle support for blade edge slide , so simple . well if nothing else , keep this quiet , I won't tell anyone , Pete

Likely won't need it. They're 3/16 thick. 

If I change the brackets I'd have to build something offset.  The horizontal and vertical studs interfere with each other. 

 

I used these for experiment. It's what I had to hand.

Not a betting guy, but with that heavy plow and the impacts from the ground while moving forward...

Yeah they may very well get crushed in the first storm.

The ones I put on were heavier than the brackets that came with the shoes themselves but this plow is also extremely heavy duty....
