Help with a part dimension

Recommended Posts

Below is a picture that I grabbed from @The Gman

The arrow points to a washer behind the castle nut on the swept-forward ball-joint.

Can someone tell me the dimensions of that washer?  OD, ID, Thickness.

Thanks

That doesnt look like a 7/16 ...... Maybe 11/16"?? That size hardware was common back in the day, but now you have scratch around to find any. The washer looks thicker than a conventional one, and IIRC that was a standard nut/washer on those early models.

You might have to stack with - I think  3/4" -  its a tad oversize but shud work.

Looks like a 7/16" or 1/2" lock washer would do it. Or stack flat washers. I assume the hole isn't lining up with the castle nut ??

I thought they were just extra thick 7/16 "SAE" washers, but not quite, just took a caliper to one. The OD is .875, ID is .532, and it is .160 thick.

John, the shaft of the ball-joint is tapered, and so are the holes in the lower steering shaft plate and spindles. The washer/spacer allows the ball-joint shaft to be pulled into the tapered hole without the castle nut bottoming out when the threads end.

Thanks. I think I'm going to find an alternative to the OEM washer which is about $5 each plus shipping.

7/16 or 1/2" lock washer

Mine just has a thinner flat washer on one of them. 520 HC with forward swept axle
