1942 Speedex

So I ran into an old friend of mine at one of our local car shows a couple weeks ago where I had my 64 854 on display. We started talking about this and that when he looked at my tractor and said I have one of these at the house. He said it was probably older but wasn't sure exactly. He said it looked a bit older than mine with no hood. Well that sparked my interest right away thinking it could be a Pond. I told him I wanted to look at it and took his number. I called him yesterday to see if I could come look at it, he agreed. I drove to his place this morning to find this in his small junkyard of stuff. Of course the engine is not the original and someone along the way added some width to the front end by welding spindles along side the kingpin holes.  Is this one of the first 4 wheel Shaw tractors?

Far as I'm aware lever steer of any brand is very early and becoming less and less common.

Given the chance to own one I'd certainly consider it.

I guess I need to know how hard it would be to find the correct Briggs ZZ and any other parts it may need. Yes, The rear military tires are cool.

The drive engagement method (clutch) I thought very primitive.

Briggs ZZ

I have one.  I need the ZZP (tapped holes for a bellhousing) and didn’t know the difference when I bought it.

@dmoore the lever here has a Wisconsin on it but should have the Briggs ZZP.  That’s why I bought the ZZ…

Cecil had nothing to do with Speedex other then a few later ones he assembled before coming up with his own.
