    K321 won't start

I have a 1978 Wheel Horse 8 speed tractor,Kohler 321 engine. I've been working on restoration, finally got the mower deck finished and installed. Before this, the engine was easy to start and ran well. Yesterday it would not start with ignition key, would not even turn over, so I jumped it with a screwdriver between cylinoid and battery. The engine started and ran about 10 seconds and died. Now I get no spark and the engine won't fire off. I checked the wiring and everything seems to be connected and without damage. I don't have test equipment available so I'm stumped at what went wrong. Any suggestions?

    Kohler 321 Engine Pan

I am currently doing a ring, piston, hone rebuild on a K 321 off a Ford LGT 145 Tractor on this machine they actually welded the rails to the bottom pan (see pics). My intention here is to put this puppy in a red machine (312-8 or GT14). I definitely have the small pan with the expanded bottom for the long dipper. Here's my questions: > Can I carefully remove the rails from the pan, cutoff the old front axle mounting bracket(s) and then drill holes in the flanges to mount to the Wheel Horse rails. > Since the engine is side mounted will the expanded bottom fit between the standard Wheel Horse rails? > If not possible to make this old pan work what flat pan would work and do I need to get the expanded bottom one (big dipper} > any recommendations here would be appreciated don't want to go down to many blind holes here...…. Thanks much!

    Cooling fins

I just got a K321 engine in the shop today. The engine lost a rod and it welded aluminum to the crank. The crank had the pto shortened to about an 1 1/2" so I will replace it anyway. The bore is good enough that a light hone and stock parts will be fine. The bad part is that the top 2 cooling fins on the pto side away from the valve side got broken off.I have the pieces so I could silver solder back on. My question is should I do that or leave it alone.Do anyone of Kohler guys have experience with this issue? I have other undamaged blocks but they all need to be bored. Thanks in advance for your perspective,JAinVA
