Well, now, it was done 'yesterday', but.... Might go n blow the garbage outta the nooks n crannies today (there's ALOT!); MAYBE see if im smart enough to pull the motor... I really have ALOT to learn; found this out just doing this, lol. But ill tell you what. Its kinda cool when you can do most things i have sofar with just a 3/8ths impact n a 1/2" wrench.😉🤣 Just think of all that money wasted on tools. Lol....NOPE, hahaha. Y'all have a great day, be safe n GodBless😊

Got the front axle on. Also threw the front wheels on for fun. Looks awesome. My OCD might be getting to me, but to anyone else, does it look like the axle the the front of the frame are different colors? May just be white wash and because the frame has older paint idk. Kinda freaking out about it lol.

Yesterday also but tweaked on my new to me 520. Carb & foot pedal adjustments & added a charger pigtail. Of all the tractors that have been through the stable this one is the first that needed no work! Cleaned out a stall next to her sister....

Holy cow Lane, are we working on the same tractor?? Any way I just made a new drag link for my 701. The one on the top of this pic is the one that a PO/Shoe Man made. It did not look anything like stock & I didn't like how cobbled together that it looked. They had doubled up the thickness on the ends. I was just about to head to a lathe to make new bolts and make my drag link to the stock specs but the more that I thought about it the more I liked the doubled up ends. More meat on the ends seemed like a good idea, So instead of making new bolts I decided to use the ones that the PO had made & doubled up the ends of my new drag link. On to the bolts, sorry for the blurry pic. If you grab some 1/2 13 bolts with a smooth shank towards the head, run a die down it until there ise only 1/4" of smooth surface left. Then drill an 1/8" hole length wise down the bolt, drill part of the way out larger to tap 1/4-28 threads for a grease cert, then cross drill 1/8" hole near the head. Depending on the length of the bolts that you find you may have to cut them down a bit. If you look at the pic below you can tell that the PO did not use a lathe to do this with the ones that they made. The grease cert is a bit off center. If you wish to make your own new ones it shouldn't be too difficult.

I sent laneranger a PM last night with the item number and within minutes they were gone off the site.Lane sent me a message that he bought them.I am all for making your own parts when you can but not everyone has the tools or equipment some of us do.

The listing I was referring to was around $16.00 for the pair NOS.You cannot make them for that.

552 trans is out. Not surprisingly, the frame is cracked but has been plated well from the inside. This’ll be a perfect time to replace the broken steering block too.

That’s ok Jim...gives us an excuse to make a run out to the JC ranch one of these nice summer evenings with the gang...the kids could help you circulate your steeds by getting them out of the stable and stretching their legs

Thanks for the reply’s. Money is tight so I may sell the 417-A. I hate to, but probably rather have the money right now. I’m not sure...still thinking it over. BTW...I picked up the 520-H for $375.

Good man he got them... for that much had I known I would have scored them and not bothered to repair. I do get a kick out of saving tho & gives me a chance to TRY and sharpen my fab skills for when things just don't pop up on fleabay. Agreed…. Or the talent That's what makes this such a great place... a member sees something another member needs and ….bam... he gets it at a good price. Hats off Jim, just as being at TSC and not knowing what belt you need and one quick post on the phone and you know!

Oddly the hole in the drag link on mine were not wallowed but the bolt shank was worn out of round. So I didn't need to use bushings. Since I don't have ready access to a lathe to make new ones. I brazed up the shank and filed back down to fit. I could have had Dan turn me some new bolts but I just liked the thicker head the original bolts have so decided to save them. I did use a bronze flat washer between the drag link and steering arm for some smoothness there. I would make a new drag link like Dan did and go back to original without the bushings I were you. With or without the beefed up ends. If with you will need to make longer shanked grease bolts.

Now that it quit monsooning here (12 inches of rain in 10 days) was able to put the 1277 to disc duty in the garden. Even dragged the little 8hp/4 speed out for wagon/mulch duty. That ones for sale.

Holy cow Buzz. Sounds like you are trying to reenact an episode of The Infamous Back Flipping Commando 8, that aired right here on June 24, 2014. All kidding aside, that can be very scary. I'm glad you are okay.

Mowed the yard at my shop with the Deere, then decided to knock down the overgrown brush in the east pasture at the ranch with the M. I seriously doubt if any of these new tractors today will be earning their keep like this 72 years from now

Almost a year this thing has been sitting. Well... I think it will look good with a double wide belt guard sticking out the side of the hood!

Got the last 416 cleaned up but the Onan will take some time to go through. The acorn warehouse will get the full service treatment but for now I wanted to check out the hydro on it and the 520 as well. I know that the one 520 has no wiring harness and I will need to go through the 416 as well. What I needed was a self contained engine package that did not connect to the tractors fuel supply or electricals. I took a chance on a 13 horse Predator and so far I am happy with it. First pull and it fired right up. That is only the second time that happened and the last time was a Predator as well. I used a extra Onan mounting plate to attach the engine to and spaced the plate up 1 1/4" to give the same height as the Onan. It was 7" from the top of the frame rail to the crank centerline and the Pred was only 5 1/2". If you don't get the crank in the right postion the drive belt will run against it self at the tension pulley and fail. I had assumed that the Kohler on the the big ugly 520 was close to the same height and it was a full inch lower and the belt only lasted about 30 hours. I will need to diassemble the mounting sytem for paint and will try to get some pictures of the individual parts if anyone is interested.

Yup ... let me know when yer in the right frame of mind to see a video and pics of this happening. Now you are looking at a new rod, crank reground... the whole shebang. BTW nothing wrong with putting a check the oil reminder on the dash. Just cause she don't smoke don't mean she ain't using oil. Keep us posted if we can help.

The series 2 was a good engine. But 1300 hours Vs. a like new barely broke in Onan with 260 hours? Keep the 520-H! But I'm biased!!!! Many others will chime in and I bet the low hour Onan wins out. Keep both if possible! :)

Got more done today. Painted front rims and got the new tires on. Will be masking off the tires and wet sanding and coating the rims again to get rid of and scratches put in when mounting the tires. Also got the front axle painted and is now drying as well as the rear hitch. Will probably be able to get the axle on tonight along with one spindle and hold the left tire on to see how it looks. I need a new rh spindle. Mine was all bent up and can’t get it bent back right. Also found the updated tie rods on parts tree. Will be getting in some of those as well as new fender bumpers. Didn’t get a picture but decided to mount the rear rims on the tractor for now so it’s not on jack stands. Looks awesome.

I replaced the bearings and brushes on a Starter/Generator today. To hold the brushes in place while replacing the armature I used a short piece of 1 1/2" PVC pipe which is slightly larger than the commutator. As the armature was being inserted the PVC was pushed out and the brushes fell into place. Easy and inexpensive.
