So, a few weeks ago we camped at a friend’s house and the girls got into the go-karts on their back 10 or so acres. Last night, their Grampa asked if he could “keep a few karts at my place”. Well, I feel like I need to pull pretty hard here to keep these kids into ! All in all, they are a blast and we mowed a new track into the yard! What’s a few more toys to maintain, right?

My wife will tell you that I buy them just to pi$$ her off. My true reason is because I just like old iron. I also enjoy restoring them. Searching for parts, repairing what I have, making new parts, all to make them look & perform as good as new. These tractors will never be made again, I like knowing that the ones I have will have a chance to live on.

Trina and I are both big believers in "Use what ya have" "Do for yourself" We really try to be as independent as we can around the home and actually both of us have jobs where we work independently a lot of the time. We try to accomplish as much as we can without the help of others. The reason we bought ONE Wheelhorse is because it was recommended by a trusted Small Engine guy. The reason we bought the rest is because we bought the first one. They are heavy duty. Reliable. Easily maintained and repairable. And as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Trina really prefers the 60s models while I go for the 70s B and C models. Nowadays if you want one you can go to a big box store full of cheap crap and buy yourself a temporary lawn mower. To us, our old tractors are... EQUIPMENT. We both very thoroughly enjoy restoring and using them around the property.

Forever I’ll remember where I was and what I felt that morning, and the time after when they broadcast our 101st Airborne launching attacks and the beginning of our most vivid war that I recall in my lifetime. Being a homeschool dad, we had a lesson on what this day means to us as a nation and how it made us feel. We complain about the long lines at airports, but overall the security measures have made a difference. No longer are the days of “Leave it to Beaver” where we can trust any old “mister” traveling through town or stopping by the house for a hand, but I wish it was and will strive to make the world a better place.

I think its the bones of the unit / era that make you buy it, and the ability to refit it as you like. they do not produce steel like they used to let alone make a small for home use tractor. refitting with a newer type or rebuilt engine , along with newer type fittings and joints can give you a resto mod type of unit that gets the best out of that unit. the combination of improvements that i have steadily added to my horses , makes them live on , i think they work better now than they did when i first got them. this is my own experience and opinion , pete

Kevin I personally would not put that cylinder on - less power and tiny rod - keep in mind the bigger the rod the stronger it is and the faster it returns (less oil is needed on the return trip because of the rod displaces the oil) here is the only picture I have of mine that I made from scratch it has a 5 inch bore and 2” rod and I wish the rod was bigger. It also has hydraulic tip for tipping the spitter up vertical. It has a old 10 hp long stroke Briggs on it and a 16 gpm 2 stage pump.

Or lose a couple of fingers and toes! Ok now that I watched the lifting wood of wood in the truck a smart man, who just turned sixty and wishes he hadn't abused his body when he was your age, would hook the splitter to a horse and split right out in the woods. The mess stays in the woods also. With smaller pieces then young girls can get exercise tossing them into the truck taking out the back window. Did I not learn you anything Kev? When making wood plan on handling the wood as few times as possible. Yah the length of stroke on that contraption sucks...even most free standers can take 18 inchers and outdoor wood stokers can often take 3 footers. I personally would ditch the splitter, the saws, the gas, the oil, the outdoor wood, the bad back and the whole nine yards. Super insulate the house with the proceeds of said sale to be able to heat it with a bic lighter and use the time gained not making wood to extend cocktail hour and relaxing with the missus.... just sayin.....Did I mention I sell high efficiency furnaces?

Thank you for posting this as a reminder of what we all went through. It was a monumentous and horrific event that will forever alter the mindset of many Americans. Everyone, Please do take some time and put some focus on the positive energy that was produced because of this terrorist act. The brotherhood. The sisterhood. The courage. The heroism. There are civilian and military groups alike that will be forever cemented together because of events such as this. Remember those that gave their lives. Remember those that were severely injured mentally or physically. Remember those who then, and to this day, are still doing their best to help others when they are in need.

Was originally listed for 700 wouldn't budge lower than 600 . Only problems I found are in the hood stand - steering column bushings are out and the hole is cracked and the bushings in the PTO engagement lever . This tractor wasn't used hard - not a leak or a seep anywhere. transmission oil was clean as a whistle no signs of water .

Just wanted some input from other members regarding rear wheel weights, the kind you bolt on. How convenient is it to have an open center in the weight (like the old cast ones) to be able to remove the wheel with the weight on? I've seen both styles, the "donut" with the open center to allow access to the lug nuts, and a solid kind that doesn't.

The reason I buy old tractors is to show off, do work, and to give new life to the ol' rusty junkers. When I eventually find a friend for my burns B-60 (a WH RJ or Suburban) it'll accompany the ol girl at shows,

They are a much cheaper hobby than old cars. You have to mow the grass anyway, may as well do it with your hobby. All problems are fixable with the help of this site. All parts are available somewhere, just need to do some digging. They grow on you and seem to reproduce.

Finding value in something that most others have written off as old junk. The chance to restore an American icon back to fully functional use (at the least) or better than new (at best). Usage brings me back to my roots and a simpler time. They are unique and super cool looking, unlike most of the current crop of look-alike plastic throw aways. They handle tasks that would generally be reserved for machines more than twice their size today. To name a few.

I recall the day my son got his first quad....no interest in tractors after that. But he now owns his own home and does not own a quad anymore, but he does own a WHeel Horse . Kids will come around when there is grass to mow, dirt to till, snow to clear. Nice to see yours having a blast!

Yes, many moons ago when my son first got into Wake Boarding, I went to the tire shop and bought a couple of buckets of lead tire weights (about 700 lbs as I recall). I used some 2x3 and 2x4 tubing and welded bottoms in them . i was going to melt the lead, then I realized I could just let the teenagers pound it into those tubes. Welded a top cap and have used them for many things over the years. The one downside, scrap lead has gotten valuable. EB, Just got an idea. Wake Boarders use "Fat Sacks that they fill with water to add weight to a boat. Why not add a "spare tire" to your design, kind of like the old cars that had the spare mounted on the front running board. Then you can fill and adjust the spare weight as desired. EB since you weren't on this site in 2014, I dug this up

I found after a longer search out, that this Warner Clutch just was able to handle 80 Nm = 59 ft.lbs. the new ordered Clutch ( Xtreme PTO Clutch - X0519 ) was able to deal with 149 Nm = 110 ft.lbs That seems a Value that rocks. 😎👍

Actually, down here I use Rotella 40w in all my small flathead engines, since 95% of the time I use them the temp outside is between 80 and a 100 degrees. Both my old flathead generators (Briggs, Tecumseh) have many hours on them (hurricanes) and still run fine, no smoke. The Briggs has over 5 weeks of almost continuous running (23hr a day) on it, with an oil change every other day. I'm sure I could go 3 days easy.
