Just happened to snap a couple pics of this interesting cool machine while driving home last night. Looks like a small dredge powered with paddle wheels.

A guy stopped at my tent at Fawn Grove Olde Time Days a couple weeks ago and asked if I buy WH tractors. He lives about 10 mile from me and has 4 short frames to sell. I got the 875, 877, a nice 48" plow, and still negotiating on the 2 855s. The 877 has some wiring mods that need corrected. I should have this one running today. The 875 is all original and It runs perfect with no smoke. The hydro is strong and hydraulic lift works.

Neighbor across the street sent me this story. My son has the same exact tractor, and would probably attempt the same if he thought of it 😂😂 https://www.wthr.com/article/toddler-gets-driving-privileges-revoked-after-driving-toy-tractor-county-fair

Update: Got most of the parts reassembled, tractor has been rewired. Finished most of that late last night, so pictures will be coming after work today. Had to buy another set of rims for the rear tires because once I started wire wheeling the rust off the rims, they start leaking air, the metal was so thin and rusted. Might even break down and buy another set of tires depending on how well they come off the rims. They are original tires. Never did get the steering wheel off the shaft, but that's ok, it will work fine the way it is. I'll work on the fuel lines tonight and hopefully fire it up. Cranks over fine, just need the fuel to go. Decals will be the final touch!

It's to blinking hot to work out in the horse barn tonight, heat index is like 98 degrees. Supposed to be feel like 110 tomorrow, so might not get to much done tomorrow either. I did promise pictures though One of @Vinylguy 's decals Some more

I wonder how many feet are required to power that one.

We are hosting our local summer show this weekend in Abingdon, VA. Here are a few pics of a few of the entries. Check out the steel wheeled Huber - only about 10 are known to exist! The John Deere 110 was a surprise for Clay - my friend Joe’s son. He just got it yesterday and is on cloud 9! The last pic shows Emory and Clay with Emory’s new Cub Cadet. Tomorrow is our last day and I’m wiped out!!

Hi folks, I been on a quest lately to find a wheelhorse or two that I would actually use for mowing/work, instead of just putting around on. I mow about 1.5 acres and have been using a husqvarna with 36 inch deck. This past week I picked up two horses that I think will finally fit the bill. Last week I got the 312-8. And the other day, I found this c-81. It was owned for the last 25 years by the same family, hes a retired mechanic and took great care of it. When I arrived to pick it up, he was actually greasing the deck for me:). New paint, tires, battery, belts. He didn't refinish the deck, but maintained it very well. I only had one picture to go on, when i agreed to buy it, but was VERY impressed when I saw it in person. Runs like a kitten too!!!

The 854 I picked up at last years big show was run very little until recently. For months when I'd find a little time I would putter around with it getting things bolted together properly. It was missing so much hardware that I'm amazed it didn't end up in a pile of parts on the trip home. The engine had been cleaned up when I got it and I didn't notice much in the way of leaks until recently now that I'm running it and the bulk is from the breather area. I also couldn't get the carb tweaked to my liking so I decided to rebuild it since I'd have it off for access to the breather cover. Ya thunk this could be the problem? OK, carb rebuilt. No on to the breather. I cleaned things up. The PO had used the lovely blue silicone stuff. Fortunately it cleaned up good. I made new gaskets and ordered new breather filters. Note that Kohler now recommends using 2 filters in the K-181. Before I saw this I ordered 2 so I'd have a spare. So much for the spare now. They were delivered today. The clutch wasn't right. It was way too sloppy causing it to not engage properly. Enter a pair of 1/2" x 5/8" bushings a couple days ago. I had to grind off the old idler assembly but fortunately I had a spare from the two tractors that were given to me. Clutch is now smooth a silk and slop free. I need to finish the breather stuff and get the carb installed. I thought I'd do that this morning but after a few minutes out there I think I'll wait a couple days. It's HOTTTTT!

Hi Guys, Like a couple of other newbies, I really had a great time meeting so many like-minded folks at the show this past weekend, very passionate about Wheel Horse tractors and their history. I only wish I had more time to spend at the show to study tractors and jaw-jack! I've been collecting and showing tractors most of my life, but this was the very first time that I've shown Wheel Horses - and must say that I kinda liked it! I definitely caught the WH bug this past year... Hearing that the "Horse Barn" at the fair grounds will be dedicated for Wheel Horses going forward, I'm excited to see this show turn into an annual, Wisconsin WH gathering! Thanks, Rob

Met some really good friends at the big show this year! We met up with our friends from Canada!! @WheelhorseWes and his wonderful family! Hubby wanted a 1961 551 and scored one! My birthday present to him.. It was a two tractor deal..so we made it a chance to see our new friends as Wes was interested in the 854. So we both have new horses for our stables!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 We went out to eat and visited!! It was a great time!!

It didn't Denny. Steve, you nailed it with the blue tarps. Fortunately they run with a good supply of 40' x 60' tarps. The rain was supposed to skirt north of us but I guess it didn't want to. They covered her up about 12:30 and the skies opened up. About 2:00 some strong winds tried to mess with the tarps but they held up. No water got in. They started back up about 3:30 and didn't roll out of here until about 10:00. They got it done and I think it looks good. No finished pics yet cuz it was dark.

The “crew” continues to make headway... Judge and Zach are removing nails from the old wood... @Coulter Caleb is installing the new hidden fastener Trex decking! What’s dad doing???? 🤔 Good question!

The Case 110hp is an awesome machine. If you look close at the video you will notice that the tractor does not have a steering wheel. The Case 110 was the very first tractor with power steering. Steering is accomplished with two levers that control steam to turn the steering spool for the chains attached to the front axle.

If the kid had been driving a Wheel Horse the cop probably would have given him a warning, asked about mods to his tractor, horse power, what color red he used on the restoration and if it had liquid in the tires or not... Just sayin’...
  23. 3 points
I am gonna go through the whole machine mechanically and then put some new tires and freshly painted rims and a new square pan on it. I will keep the photos coming once I begin workin in it.

That's a funny story! I think my own son would have done exactly the same thing at that age under the same circumstances.

So my part of the 854..... transmission is junk but I have a spare...it’s in the tractor already. Like Joe/Jennifer said I have it running already. The engine had just about an 1/8 of oil in it. Did an oil change cleaned the dust out of the carb. Put gas in it and it ran. No smoke no knocks it’s a score for just a good smooth running 8hp I have plans down the road to restore this one ...does anyone have a good/perfect 854 hood? And an 854 toolbox? My family and I got to tour the Holland Michigan windmill tulip place before we picked up this Wheelhorse which was pretty neat. Got to hangout with joe n Jennifer and family which we could have spent hours talking about Wheelhorse tractors. Love that we have new friends

Lucky you! I’ve been to countless shows and not once has someone come up and asked me if I buy Wheel Horses . I would have been all over that 4 horse deal! And again I’m loaded up and will be at a show this weekend with a couple of mine in tow.....hoping someone with a neglected horse (or four!) stops by looking to unload it.

I thought that for a few minutes too. Looks like the paddles are relocated for transport to keep the machine under the DOT road width. Look at the side of the boat and you'll see a mounting/drive hole on the side.

My son says they use wax on all thier blades and bits where he works. Started using it on my stuff too. I just got an old car paste wax and dip it. Seems to work good.

Hey Eric! Travel safely, bud. By the way, if you ever invite me over for a picnic lunch I like Limburger and braunschweiger on rye with a side of pickled red cabbage and a tall, icy cold, Miller High Life. Just in case you're asking..... Cheers! Dave

No need to keep you hanging @PeacemakerJack and @Jennifer. Emory bought a Cub Cadet 102. He scored it for a good price because he had seen in the last couple of years at our show. Turns out it lost spark and the owner let it sit. He felt like we would give it a good home and we rolled it to our tent yesterday. This morning my buddy and I put in a new coil, condenser, cleaned out the fuel tank, and rebuilt the carb. Within an hour and a half Emory could cruise and mow. We do have the grille, it just wasn’t installed in the pic. I’m going to post some pics of our show in the shows section.

I'm pretty sure my 7-1311 came with a manual. I'll have to check. Very nearly the same unit. That is a long frame. At the rear of the sickle frame it has a 'sweep' to the bracket. Short frames do not have that. As for fitment, I asked the same question a few weeks back and the answer isn't very clear. I have a 7-1311 and use it on an Electro 12 no issues, so it'll fit long frames. Not so sure about shorts though.. I didn't get a clear enough answer to justify buying the tractor to try it out. Mounting is simple. Remove your mid tach-a-matic and this bolts in place of it. (Use caution, these things are awful awkward to maneuver. I mount the rear hoop first, then use a floor jack to lift the unit up and into the frame holes.) The lift rod goes to the inner-most hole on the rockshaft. And the rear bracket goes to the tranny plate. There's a little hook and bracket that bolts on in place of your PTO clutch lever on the dash side. DO NOT use your PTO clutch pulley with this thing. You need a 2" or so pulley on the crank. It works like an old round hood pto with the foot pedal.

When i must cut or drill things an didn‘t wanna contaminate with oil, i use sometimes simply Wax for cooling. Using an rest of a candle. i know it sound strange, but it works, my drills or mills lasts longer since. If the first blade goes quick dull, it‘s maybe worth a try.

If I remember right it's a 71, has the k241 10hp. I have it running and usable again someday plan to redo it. unfortunately it sat for a few years outside but I was able to drive on the trailer, gotta love a kohler! what really stinks was the snowcaster which I wanted rotted into the ground was junk, but I was able to save a mower deck and snowplow for it, which I used the snowplow last spring to push back some brush piles on the property which was fun.
