Hello everyone, my name is Brian and I'm very glad to have found this forum. Restoring old tools and tractors is not a new hobby for me but wheel horses are very new to me. Years ago i restored a 69 AC b-112 and had so much fun I dont really know why I have not done more since then. Recently i spied an old lawn ranger for sale close by and my tinker flame was kindled. I have a few questions but i know this isnt the thread to ask them on but i look forward to chatting with everyone.

Santa daughter brought me this. I've got the perfect spot for it once I get the remodel done. I'm thinking a little embellishment from Terry is in order.

Since this is a recoil start engine I wanted to fill in some of the empty space where the battery used to sit on this Ranger so I cut the battery tray down a little and welded up some 1/8" flat to make a tool box out of it. It's not very big but I think the boys will like it. I'll put a small latch on it and maybe add a small handle if I run across something that fits the dimensions.... I've also taken my seat pan to have cushions made and the guy tells me it'll be mid February before I get it back.

The work of an artist for sure and a priceless original treasure. I really like the modified ag tire with the three reversed lugs for better traction when backing up.

I bought this 312 from Wheel-it in 2014 he bought it for the engine and found out it wasn't what he wanted. I have been using it and working on it since. Or should I say modifying it? Put new tririb's on it in November with narrow wheels. Gave it a Christmas present of a new switch, new seat, and headlights. It's had a miss in the engine I could not get out. The new switch and cleaning up the wiring and it's gone. The new lights Cree LED's 24 watt flange mount, real pain to install. Had to take the light apart just to get it in the hood. I think the plastic insert will work. I don't have any as a lot of parts were missing when I got it. I nstalled the new seat from Agri Supply $42.99 plus shipping and tax. Got it delivered to the door for $57.73. It set too upright for me so I added 1/2" spacer under the hinge. I had it out today to drag a cedar limb to the brush pile. Made a trip back up to the drive to get the camera. Notice anything different about the 312-8.

Welcome, @RetroMower! the A-100 is a vertical shaft engine, totally different than most garden tractors on this site. Though it’s quality roots are there, a horizontal shaft Horse would most likely out perform it in every aspect. good luck hunting, PA seems to be littered with all kinds of Wheel Horses!

I have a nite owl system. The cameras are 1080p with nite vision. I have 4 cameras but the DVR is set up for 8. Picture quality is excellent and if you have high speed internet you can view your home over your phone or tablet from anywhere at no cost. My system cost around 350.00. It is hard wired and I installed it myself in just a couple of hours. It will record and store for a couple of months and then record over the oldest. I have a 1 teribite HDD but you can get a 2 ter. You can also back up to a flash drive or external hard drive. I was able to prosecute a couple of idiots with the footage from my system. It also gives you alerts on your phone when someone or thing enters your set zones. And I repeat, not paying for a service.

I should have taken pictures of the mold before I knocked it down. It really was bad. This way I could have sent them to you guys and you could have shown them to your wives and told them it was in your shed! 😜

Almost forgot Don... thanks for the tip buddy. Just remembered how much my Mrs Rules also hates her some mold.

Sorry about the long post but here is the latest update on Scottie’s recovery!!!! Chapter 2 Day 1 Scottie arrived home on Sunday around 2 pm. He was greeted by his 3 puppies and his older brothers! Once we got Scottie situated and in his new bed he fell asleep since the trip home was exhausting. Scottie had his normal visitors later in the evening. Which helped him being more comfortable at home. Chapter 2 Day 2 Well Scottie was up again last night with pain in his hip and in his clavicle. He had a hard time going back to sleep but once his medication kicks in he is fine. He has a positive attitude despite what he is going through. We are closely monitoring his urine output and his BM’s. I have to consistently remind him to drink his water and to eat something as there are times he forgets. During the day his normal activity consists of sleeping in until nine, eating when he is hungry, taking his medication, watching movies, repositioning so his bottom don’t break down, playing games, and being apart of our family and seeing who is visiting him for the day. Scottie opened his presents and he was excited to have a Green Bay Packer Christmas. He got a blanket, sweat pants, socks, a banner, and an Aaron Rodgers jersey! Two games to play with when his friends come over, and more clothes from other people. Chapter 2 Day 3 Scottie woke up in pain (6/10) because his stomach hurt and he felt sick. Come to find out he had to pass gas and have a BM. Once he achieved that task, he slowly started to feel better. Scottie had a surprise visitor this morning who brought him his Christmas gift. Jacob (His best friend) came to spend the day with Scottie. Scottie and Jacob played 3-4 different games and watched movies on Christmas Day!

I purchased this tractor about a month ago and put a few posts up that some of you might have read and responded to a few of my questions. Thank you all by the way. Here is where I am at now I was told that the engine was running about a year ago I doubt that because of the things I have found wrong with it such as the exhaust valve was stuck in the open position I have corrected that problem among a lots of other things lap the valves and today I fired it up for the first time it's at and purred like a kitten. I rewired the ignition switch and put in a solenoid which was a chore for me because I'm not that good with electrical. I'm trying to work out as many bugs as I can before spring such as I have to replace all of the seals in the rear end which is my next project come springtime it's going to get a total paint job pictures to follow. Here is another question what spark plug is correct for this engine it currently has a j19lm Champion spark plug in it. Thanks in advance Merry Christmas to all.

Well im glad i asked about this. But my original intent with this was a good winter project to clean up, possibly repaint to possibly use mainly as a mower come spring time. Although its on the lower end of WH power and ruggedness, its almost definitely more reliable than any new, big box store equivalent priced at $1000 at least. I will take the advice to keep looking seriously. I just wanna get my hands dirty lol

Consider this rambling for a minute...all of the Wheel Horse transmissions (and I am not talking Foote, Peerless or Eaton) were 4 pinion from 1958 to 1967. In 1967, they came out with the #5060 ie...the 10 pinion LS in 3 of their models. The 1st 8 pinion differential was the #5091 in 1974...some 8 years later. It was pretty much a complete drop of the 10 pinion (except in some autos) to the 8 pinion that year...and beyond. I'm just looking at this time line, and it tells me something. Give it some thought. Richard...you posted while I was working on this post. We have a bet !!! good luck Mate. Just to be clear...one of us will owe @Cetan08 $25. and one of us will owe the other one of us $25.

This will be interesting. My opinion is that Steve will win this. Putting one axle in a vice and a measure of resistance turning the free axle doesn't necessarily mean a transfer of power. It could mean that things are partially bound up and the spring could be causing it. Best case scenario it might work to an extent but the wear on the pinions would be excessive and a short life would come of it. I can't help but think the 10 pinion diffs were dropped in favor of the 8 pinion due to issues. I went through countless IPL's and unless I missed something the Sunstrand hydros stopped using the 10 pinion at the same time the manuals did. I firmly believe that anybody that has one in a later model is was swapped out at some point. With that being said, Steve and I have discussed this and many other issues concerning transmissions and are in agreement on this one. BUT...…..we both have been wrong many times and could be on this one too. This is an interesting and fun thread to read and I'm looking forward to seeing the results. If it does provide limited slip capabilities then I would want to see the longer term effects on the pinions. I could use some extra traction just mowing this crazy yard. Shifting this skinny butt over the slipping wheel doesn't do much for me.

Sorry @Dennis Thornton they are D series brackets but I think the C-195 brackets are the same except with a small plate at the top. That would get cut off anyways when you made the top plate for the upper mount and welded it on. The channel he used on his 1054 is probably stronger, you just have to do more drilling to get it to work whereas the D series are bolt ons and already have the holes for the lower lift arm pins.👍

Very good news. I’m still praying for your family. Joette from talking with you at the Big Show you know my situation . My personal experience if anyway possible an adjustable memory foam bed is the way to go. It’s been a saving grace with my recovery (never had a bedsore) and should ease some of the pain from pressure points.

Last night Scottie was fever free!!! Praise the Lord!!! However, he experienced more pain during the night. He has some fractured ribs that is causing him pain and his pelvic area was hurting him along with his legs. As long as we stay on top of his pain, he does fine. Ok so now we are going to start a new chapter of Scottie’s recovery as we are going home tomorrow. Please pray that he continues to get stronger and he heals mentally and physically. We also ask for prayers to make our family a stronger unit and that we rally around Scottie to heal. Our next chapter will be a long road but with God by our side we can do anything!
