Scottie is exhausted but we started therapy and we are making plans to go home (date yet to be set). But first we need to make sure his GI tract is working properly and he eats. They started his oral pain medication regime today and we will see how that goes. He still has his lovely grin and attitude...boy did I miss that!

Just spoke to our Buddy. He's in great spirits. Still working. Hasn't started the shots yet. Had to get his diabetes down to normal. Dr just told him he's ready. They told him he won't feel the shots. One per month for a year. Prognosis is good. He's anxious to get started. Said to tell everyone hey and sorry he hasn't been around. Already making plans for next summer shows...

Eric: We don't call them grinders in Pittsburgh. They're hoagies. I have also heard them called Po Boys and submarine sandwiches, depending where you live. If it's a Japanese model, I think those are shrimp rolls. The Chinese ones are definitely egg rolls. Cheers! Dave

Here is the one that is restored a before and after. this one has the same concept of the tiller steering but instead of the post moving it is fixed and there is aircraft cable running down the tube running to a gear box.

My prayers sent ... First time on internet in two weeks and checking in with my family to find this. I was saddened sickened and heartbroken as the my emotions took over looking at the pictures. Lowell and Joette I’m so glad to see Scottie is doing better and is a fighter. Never give up ! Guardian angels do exist

I could have kept this topic busy for the last several months, but here's the last two days of "done's". Didn't get a handle w/ the new/old dozer blade, so I made this one. Plus, the grip matches the lift handle. And made a new front Reese. I gotta take the blade off before I can use the reese. '76 B-60

Finished the belt guard, hood and headlights today. I didn't take before pics of the hood, cause I already sanded a spot. But that can be seen in first pics posted. But here are some pics for everyone. I'm liking the way it came out. Next I got to pull engine and do some welding on the frame were the previous owner drilled holes to mount engine And got to weld a cracked off tab on the hoodstand.

I got the new 1056 running better. This little Horse is a little tired, but a coil and condenser transplant got it running. And the battery was hooked up backwards on the poles. No wonder it was not running! Today, I got it running without needing starting fluid. The choke had been frozen and by using Deep Creep on the cable after stripping off the plastic cover, it finally freed it up. It starts very easily now. Not bad for a $107.00 purchase. There was so much plastic baler twine woven around the blade towers that i had to burn it with a torch and pick out the pieces Next is some work on the tie rod ends that were replaced with bolts drilled through [acting as ball of the ball joint] and flipped over. Just wallowing about loosely and it steers to the right, but not so much to the left. So in repairing the front end, i am borrowing tie rods from the Raider. I even had to borrow a spindle because the tie rod arm was all wallowed out on the right one. The other spindle had a bent tie rod arm so a session with a ball pein hammer got it close to the other side. Assembly is tomorrow morning. BTW, the bolts they put in the tie rod ends probably would have broken off on any sideways slope--so it is a safety issue as well

The GT-14 was the top of the line at the time. It uses the Sundstrand transaxle, but it is the hydrogear rather than the later piston to piston. If the trans is in good operating condition you have nothing to fear, they are tough as nails as long as they have been maintained and not excessively abused. Mine has a FEL, wheel weights, liquid filled tires and a home made weight box, it is unstoppable! The hydraulic lift has good down pressure.

This was my late dad Craig Bottjer. Unfortunately he took his life in september of 2016 I miss him everyday. He was the garden tractor and 2 cylinder john deere guy around our area. I am so glad to have dads friends a real good group of folks. Dad knew just about anything you wanted to know about wheelhorses, deeres, cubs you name it. I ended up with lots of dads knowledge and love for these old machines. I now work on this stuff when i am not working and do repairs for others and share my knowledge. I also kept alot of my dads equipment.

EB was just curious about grinders on CL, not to many, good ones, used at that price. I do have a low dollar Harboo Freight one. It works okay but ain't got no ass. Did see this one on CL, interesting. looks like a guy welded a motor to beam.$35 bucks, 2018 money.

You are correct, my other GT14 has the independent version. Basically there is another tab on the left close to where the lower arm goes that the cylinder connects to.

Here is an interesting fact. 25.5oz of gold could have purchased you a brand new Ford Model T in 1913. 25.5oz of gold will give you $31,700 & some change today, enough money to purchase a brand new car.

I own and built the bottom Rear axle attachment and I can assure you that is NOT light duty I have used this set-up for years lifting connecting an aerator (it weighs at least 100lbs with added 100lbs of lead weights) and a lifting platform on which I lifted hundreds of pounds of material with NO issues, the two inch receiver makes a multitude of attachment easy to hook on to, additionally I pulled heavy loads and remove medium size tree stumps hooking directly to the cross bar and lifting and pulling with the hydro and Tractor again NO issue(s).

Sorry to hear that you lost your dad. I cannot imagine...... And my heart breaks for anyone who gets to the point of that being a viable option. It's great that you can carry on your dad's knowledge and helpfulness.

That is the correct bracket for the dependent style that uses the draw bar over transmission tunnel. Basically it shares the cylinder that lifts the deck or blade implements. The independent set up is slightly different I believe. That allows a separate second cylinder that allows independent use.

Yesterday I had a chance to replace the 6200RS bearing in the drive belt idler pulley. I ground the heads off of the old rivets with a 2" cutoff wheel then drove them out with a punch and I set the new rivets with the 2 pound hammer.

Lol... Yes - Corona Light aka "Work Beers". Took some time off from this project due to tweaking my lower back then had an infected abscessed tooth... Ugg. I got some stuff done on Sunday though, inc. pulley alignment and steering components fab'd and installed. Steering was a bit tricky and will probably be modified yet again. Prob. start working on clutch next. Was planning to fab my own but saw a fancy one online and impulse bought it. I am not sorry :).

A few decades ago (about 1978) I picked up my neighbor (he was in his eighties) and took him to a car show with me. Though there were five decades separating us we had a lot in common and attending car shows was one of them. We took in the show and went to an ice cream emporium for a cool refreshing snack. Looking at the price list he commented that when he was a student working part time in a soda fountain a banana split was thirty five cents, now they were three dollars. I asked what year he was working in the soda fountain, he said 1939. Asked what his wages were he said thirty cents an hour. At that time (1978) the minimum wage was two dollars and sixty five cents so I told him the price was the same as it had been when he was a kid; a bit more than an hour's pay at minimum wage.

Very sorry to hear this. But at least you got some good memories, knowledge and a shared love of tractors to keep him around. Also I got to ask Is that tractor a Baird Beaver in the second pic? Those were a pretty cool machine.

I got this tractor as a teen. it took me years and lots of help but i got it done in 2015. my late dad was very proud to see it completed. I used all american parts went threw the motor and threw the transmission. i am very proud of it she is my baby. i also have a deck and original snow plow. I did push snow with it in 2016 just to say i did. LOL

Picked up the filled tru powers today!! The guys that filled them said he was able to get 12 gallons in each of them, but im guessing he meant 12 gallons total. Breaking it down, they weigh in at about 100 lbs each. Carlisles website says the tire weighs approx 25lbs. If he got 6 gallons in there, the beet juice should weigh about 63 lbs alone. 63 + 25 = 88lbs. 100lbs total minus 88 lbs gives me a 12lb wheel, which sounds about right. In any event, Im happy with the outcome. They charged me 60 bucks out the door, which i thought was reasonable. I had a lucky find last night. The guy i sold my last 312 to put up a pair of ag tires for sale. He put up only one photo. Took one look at it and shot him a message, ILL TAKE EM!!! 16x6.50-8 Carlisle Tru Powers on wheels for 40 bucks!! And he delivered them to my car when i was walking out of work today. Super excited to happen into matching front tires to my new rears. Ill be filling them with windsheild washer fluid that i have on hand once i figure out if the wheels they are on fit my 418. They supposedly came off a Craftsman GT6000. I think the bearing width might be a bit narrow looking at them, so ill likely be swapping them to a set of WH wheels prior to installation. Ill get some more pictures up once i get everything installed. I think ill be running all the rear wheel weights that i have. It will weigh it at about 185lbs on each rear corner. I have a pair of 8" simplicity weights coming my way for the front as well, so it should be quite the tank this winter.
