Hey All, Just wanted to share with all of you. This deal came up last week I had jump on. Two loaders one on a 953 and one on a 1054 A bit rough but we(wheel horsemen) can bring anything back. Couple pics, one of the pick up and the other two are there new resting places until spring. Also meet a couple of nice guys, and not because they helped me load my trailer. Thanks Tony and Mike(@Sparky)

So as most of you are all aware my significant others actual name is Trina. Some of you probably don't even know that. That would be because I refer to her much of the time as... My Honey. She calls me... Bear.... Originally named so because I snore.... And also it just kinda fits my size and persona.. Lookie here and see the metal sign she found the other day online...

Yep and I gave the new owner a solid deal on it too. Extra unknown condition complete 10hp Kohler, rear wheel weights, chains, spare set of front and rear wheels with tires and as many spare parts as I could find for it. I was out of space and not going to be using any of that stuff anytime soon so it all went to a good home.

It's fun but too fast for doing that kinda stuff. Talk about trailer sway at 25 mph lol

I love my Onans talking to me, I did go back out before noon with the blade to work the slush off the pavement, I won't blow snow again without a cab, plowing doesn't bother me so much unless the wind was blowing or still snowing. I had a tall chute single for years before the deuce did just as good except for really wet snow or DOT plow banks (last video). Thank the missus (aka Cityslicker) for standing out on the deck rolling film for me and all of RS. IDK, might be awhile before I get there.

Check Voltage with the engine running should be 13.6 to a bit over 14. If not run a jumper wire from the regulator housing to teh battery negative see if you get 13.6 or greater. (if so clean up the regulator mounting to assure a good ground.. Still no charge find the two white wires that go from engine to regulator. With you r multi meter on AC engine running better than half throttle you should get 30 or more volts. if you do regulator is bad...if not then on to the stator as the issue. (not very common)

Eastwood has this product https://www.eastwood.com/glyptal-red-brush-on-1-qt.html They're not exactly giving it away tho...'course if a guy could get maybe two or three trannys or maybe a engine or base pans out of a quart? Couple of (vintage) motors I've cracked open had this in them. I don't think its necessary in manuals but if a fella really wants do it right?? Or has a situation where condensation might be a problem? Might be best off doing regular oil changes?? This or a similar product is probably what's inside the hydros for better oil return to sump.

On Saturday I went to pick up a set of rear wheel weights. Score, got the Wheel Horse wheel weights. Then this jumped in my truck just as I was leaving.

Finished welding repairs and cleaned up the rest of the frame and engine. I’ll try to post pics tomorrow - just braced the fender pan mount and patched the battery tray from a ranger. I did bodywork the dash tower and get it primed. Hopefully a little paint on it tomorrow😀. Pretty happy for tonight though.

The transplant is complete and running like a top. Used her move some firewood today. The recap. Project tractor. Late 60s Raider 10 Donor tractor. Mid 70s C 160 hydro. Used the engine, wiring harness and gauges. Engine gaskets and carb came from I Save Tractors. Front tires are 3 rib 4/8 Dstones from Miller tire. 4 tire tubes and a case of RV antifreeze from Tractor Supply. Loaded all four tires. Two link tire chains came Ebay. And a few other items came from came stock room and the bone yard. Remember don't throw out anything, you might need it someday.

Happy Birthday @ebinmaine! Say hi to Trina and Mirror for me! By the way, I’m glad to have a friend who gets my stupid jokes and laughs the same as me! Kids call ‘em Dad Jokes, like only I think I’m funny or something?

It can be done! Just not easily. I have rebuilt a k series with a major hole in the block and was bored to the limit. Used it just this weekend and performed flawlessly.

Well, Friday afternoon they were saying Diego had shifted south and we would only get 1-3” here. WRONG! I just went out and pushed between 12-14”. So far I’m only the second person to plow out today. More is coming, but I figured I had better move it while I could. That’ll make the next round easier. Only problem was it is so wet that it caked on my blade. Now, back to Emory’s Christmas tractor.

Believe me...you guys would be the first to know if I had! Wouldn’t that make a super cool “what’s in your mirror” post? I’ve spent the last couple of days trying to figure out what I could sell/part with to bring that thing home It sure would look cool in the shed sitting next to the GTO!

The trick on that casting is allowing the tig enough time to clean the metal before depositing any filler into the puddle. The biggest thing is to keep a tight arc and the torch angle nearly 90* to the surface, cast aluminum is very porous and dirty. Start off with a nice, crisp arc and let it cook for a few seconds until you have a very bright, silverish puddle, then add filler, repeat. I've found on any casting that has had fuels, oil or antifreeze in constant contact you must take the time to burn the residue out of the metal first. Most times I'll run a short bead without filler, grind out any garbage and repeat while adding filler where the base is clean enough. Otherwise, you end up with too much contamination in the welds to seal up the tank. If the welder has the capability, try setting the frequency down around 80hz. AC balance needs to be around 68-72% for enough cleaning, maybe even further. On a few odd castings due to their alloy mix, I've had to go as high as 190hz to concentrate the heat cone enough to boil out contamination, then drop it back to less than 100hz to get a truly clean puddle before making the final weld with filler metal. Also, there is a newer filler alloy that really seems to help with castings - 4943, seems to flow out better and bring contaminants up to the surface better. That welder is an early model Fronius and I see it does have a decent range of balance settings, but no real reference as to the percentages - probably have to swing the knob about half scale to the right, from the looks of the scaling. Actually, upon a closer look - it's a mig? Sarge

I’m going to go ahead and beat the snot out of this predator right now, Might as well get the good out of it, but I’m putting that 10hp shaker I got from you on a tractor for Emory right now. I’m really glad I didn’t sell it now! I’ll keep that in mind down the road though! Who knows what I’ll end up doing next - I drive my wife crazy constantly dreaming up new projects!

Finally started to rebuild this 5025? transmission that goes to the 551 Suburban I am restoring. With @stevasaurus and @Racinbob help I've rebuilt 2 three piece transmission, but this will be my 1st 2 piece case transmission rebuild. I've watched Steve's great videos, and have one question. My input shaft has a little in/out movement. I've learned on the 3 pc transmissions you want to shim the bottom bearing to remove this. Since the input shaft gear to the internal gear on this 2 piece 5025 is the same I would expect i need to shim something? If that is correct what do I shim. Here's some pictures of the disassembly and cleaned up parts. I've received all my new bearings and seals from Motion Industries, except they shorted me one, so I'm waiting on that and the input shimming question to proceed with reassembly. I started by heating and driving out the frozed hitch pin the PO had cut off. My brass flanged shear pin is a much used driver Success! I had flushed the transmission with diesel, so the internals were not covered with heavy gear oil. I used a rare earth magnet (strong) to catch the shifter balls, spring and pin as I pushed them out, worked great! This tractor had set for quite a while. Interestingly the Top Upper half of the transmission case and the upper exposed gears were slightly rusted from being exposed so long I guess. Thankfully so signs of water rust deteoriation on the lower gears. Differential disassembly, I'll reuse the bolts, but have bought new metal (not nylock) lock nuts for reassembly. Is there any torque spec, or just good and tight. Input shaft and shifter gears. The larger shift gear and input gear show wear on there edges. I'm thinking to reuse these gears, but welcome input here. My thought is to do a dry reassembly and see if I can make it jump out of gear The internal mating gear to the input gear looks better than I expected, knowing there was slop on this shaft before I disassembled it. I'll be back to add more picture comments, I just got a Grandpa call to go help my daughter-in-law and watch grandson #1 Jeremy while she takes 10 month old grandson #2 Kent to the doctor with a stomach bug. Im back to finish this. I got some training from grandson Jeremy on how precise you have to assemble gears Brake shaft gears look excellent Differential axle gears look veryhoid The differential pinions are good The small gear (3rd gear?) part of the cluster gear has the most wear These gears all look very good Both shift forks are very good The case internals cleaned up nicely Always like to see the new Regal Red. I tapped the old bearings back in slightly to use as masking post Shiny stainless new case hardware

When you check the in/out play make sure the shifter is in 3rd gear. At that point you don't want any play. If there is, measure how much and slip the correct thickness thrust washer on the input shaft before you install it in the case

Was a sad day over the weekend. Sold an old faithful machine that hasn't been used in a few years. My grandpa bought it new in 72 and it's been around the block more then once in the family. I tried to give it away to other family members, but nobody wanted it and I couldn't just let it sit. Talked it over with grandpa and he said it was time to let it go so I did just that. Good news is the new owner has been putting it to use and hopefully serves them well.

Successfully mounted cab. Not on these photos but added an extension to chute crank so it would be inside cab , and modified crank support so crank sits lower inside cab and my hand does not hit door while using it. Waiting for linear actuator so I can motorize deflector. Also found glass windshield kit so I may also be getting that. Been thinking about not only the work to install and remove cab but mainly the hassle of storing it once removed. I am thinking of only removing vinyl and leaving frame with roof on tractor next spring. Was planning to get an umbrella so I would have shade while mowing so roof will provide that. Has anyone used it like that? Any negative facts to that that I am not realizing?

Progress today. Got it off the bench and took some photo's outside. After a clean up in the workshop, (I still not found the elusive spring) I turned my attention to the antivibration engine plate. Cleaned it up and got it primed and top coated. Next the bonnet/hood got my attention. Borrowing SWMBO's hairdryer I removed the stickers from the sides. That was followed by a good going over with turpentine substitute, then a rub down with emery cloth. The photo' below shows how much the paint has faded over the last 36 years. That was all today as it was getting a bit nippy.

A Scout in that condition is close to the same market as the older Land Cruisers - it will not go down in value, only up from this point. If you can buy it and restore it to original equipment - worth even more money. Like the Cruiser, the Scout is not cheap nor easy to source parts, in fact, the Scouts are harder to find certain items and worth their weight in gold. But, long-term - a bit of work makes an investment that you can actually make money on later. My wife thought I was nuts investing the amount of money I dropped into my old Cruiser. I not only got it properly running and driving but drove it to work most of the time during the 7yrs I had it - and sold it for more than I had in it despite the continuing rust and rot. Certain models of trucks are more than just a collector's item or cool, some are flat-out Icons - the Scout is one of them. Sarge

That has to be cool driving that around the yard to do chores and looking at that turbo hanging out of the hood. I’d be grinning ear to ear. Good job Kyle.👍

Starting to look like something now. Seat base painted and fitted. High back seat that originally came on the Black Horse. Cleaned up not bad after a wipe with white spirit. After this photo was taken. Pair of rear lights that have been on the parts shelf for a few years. I'll wire them up when I do the wiring.
