12 pointsI really must stop the Craigslist wheel Horse Alerts I have set up. As I have stayed with the 400 series all these years as I visited the Big Show I often wondered where such clean and great condition 520 are found. A recent craigslist local alert and I found the 1996 Anniversary 520H posted. Only 1 pic was shown but I knew what it was. The recent inherited owner placed it with his local SCAG Dealer to sell against the price of a new SCAG zero turn. Posted at $850 I offerd $725. No choice after it was accepted....100 mile trip to pick up. The tractor had sat unused but the fuel was emptied prior. Hours show 1000 hours but based on the condition and appearance its very hard to believe. Tires look original and the paint is just perfect...even on the deck. The onan sounds fine, idles smooth and runs up to max rpm .....the deck engaged is smooth and quiet. All the dash lights function. The hydro ran well but the column motion lever at the max up foward was not right ....almost reaching straight up vertical. the forward speed was not as fast as it should be but I ran really steep hills all over the property and the speed never faded. I have a 416H with the column motion lever to compare and will take a look at the linkages and such. They washed the tractor at the shop but the original dash decal was lost so they dropped the price to $700. Of course I know the decals are available. Here are a few quick pics.

5 pointsKev, gotta say that Iβm loving that little girl and have never met her! You can tell in her pictures that she has a sweet spirit, but loves to have fun! Your girls will be like Emory, they will love the show once they go and it will be a yearly tradition afterward. Doing this stuff with our kids is what makes it all worth it!

4 pointsIt seems that in this new modern era there is a chance that maybe someday December 7th, PEARL HARBOR just might be erased and forgotton by future generations. Dam shame that is. To all the men and women that were there on that fatefull day rest easy, most are gone now, old age and time has taken its toll. I am here to beat the drum of rememberence. Thank you for your service and I shall never forget your sacrifice. I guess only because my father was there serving aboard the USS PENNSYLVANIA. I hope this day does not become extinct in the minds of future generations.

4 pointsThe transplant is complete and running like a top. Used her move some firewood today. The recap. Project tractor. Late 60s Raider 10 Donor tractor. Mid 70s C 160 hydro. Used the engine, wiring harness and gauges. Engine gaskets and carb came from I Save Tractors. Front tires are 3 rib 4/8 Dstones from Miller tire. 4 tire tubes and a case of RV antifreeze from Tractor Supply. Loaded all four tires. Two link tire chains came Ebay. And a few other items came from came stock room and the bone yard. Remember don't throw out anything, you might need it someday.

4 pointsAll Fixed!!!! Pulled the carb apart and found some black colored crud in the needle and jets. It did not come from my fuel line as its brand new translucent blue line. The inside flapper on the check valve is black though. If you use one be sure to clean it 1st. Good lesson here. She also got a new set of NGK plugs too as the others were totally black and fouled. I did come across something awesome though. Found some welch plugs on top of carb with that looked like needles. Removed the plugs and sure enough, adjustable low mix screws. It's my lucky day for once HA. About a 1/2 a turn to each and she starts and idles much better than before. Thanks EPA! 22hp Predator Running After Carb Clean & Low Adjustment Also installed a new set of Tri-Ribs. It's like having power steering now. These things are AWESOME!

4 pointsGrowing up with a 1966 IH Scout as our familiesβ primary worker, I have a special place in my heart for those little trucks. Rarely do you see them in decent original shape for sale here in Wisconsin but this 1965 version showed up recently. Iβm trying to figure out a way that I can buy it... Merry Christmas to me! Then I wouldnβt see my wife for about two weeks. After two weeks I might begin to see her out of my left eye... Non original wheels of course and late model bucket seats and radio but the claim is little to no rust. This one has the dual stick transfer case and the flip down windshield. Notice the u-hook on the hood that catches the latch on the top of the window. These were originally designed to compete directly with the ever popular Jeeps That came to fame during and after the Second World War. They were spartan but tough as nails. This one has a rebuilt original 152 CID international 4cyl. With 93hp! That wonβt win any races! These were ALL WHEEL drive though with lockers front and back, almost impossible to get them stuck with the right tires. Its fun to dream!!! Maybe one day...

4 pointsYes we need to keep teaching this in school and remembering. Thank you to all that served. My dad caught the end of WWII in the security force in Germany. My step dad joined the Merchant Marines at 16 right after Pearl Harbor. The Merchant Marines while not true military lost more supply ships than the US Navy. They are somewhat forgot heroβs along with all the Military Veterans who are truly each heroβs

3 points@stevasaurus @wallfish @pfrederi I spent some time today to remove and clean up the engine pulley as much as could be done to it. Turns out it is too worn to use. Also was quite a bit more rusty than I expected. I ground down the rust and of course the belt was sitting even more deeply in the pulley. The rear pulley on this tractor isn't right so I'm replacing all 3. I've ordered a replacement 3" for the front and a 4" for the transmission, both 5L/ B groove size. As for the brake/clutch linkage and rods... They too were ummmmmm Mickey mouse engineered. What was happening was the rod connecting the brake drum to the clutch/ pivot was too short. When you push the clutch pedal on these models the brake is engaged as well. One motion. Because of the brake rod being too short I had nowhere near the amount of free play I needed to set the park brake, and also the belt idler would not move down enough to allow the installation of the 1" shorter belt as discussed in previous posts. I took a rod from a B/C series and straightened it in the vise. Then using the old rod as a guide I bent the new longer rod to the right position. It took a fair amount of experimentation to get the pedal in the right place and get the park brake adjusted. Here's a couple of pics. One showing the brake engaged. One not. I also threw a set of used but better than what was there tie rods on.

3 pointsJust my opinion, which that and a dollar will buy you a cup of coffee, but I would try to buff a tractor that looks that good before I tried to oil it up. I bought a harbor freight buffer and have had good luck buffing tractors. The paint is a lot tougher that automotive paint and won't burn near as easy. I had some tractors that looked like new after I buffed them. Good luck that is a nice looking 520. I have some nice ones but the 96 anniversary one has eluded me. good luck eric j

3 pointsFound this today about Hollywood types who signed up after Pearl Harbor actually saw action not just to make movies... I worked with a guy years ago who was in the army stationed in Hawaii in the late 30s (Coast defense artillery). They drilled with wooden rifles rarely fired their big guns ..too expensive. https://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/celebrity/16-hollywood-stars-who-saw-real-life-combat/ss-BBQzu5s?li=BBnb7Kz

3 pointsAnd people wonder why I don't have cable TV anymore. If I wanted to know what a given person or organization or agency thought, I would ask them. I don't need them telling me what to think. Best we can do as individuals is to keep reminding people of the things that we have experienced in the past that led to create who and what we are today. Some were good. Some were bad. It's absolutely fantastic and I try as hard as I can to be positive minded as often as possible. That said, the negative things in my past have certainly shaped a portion of my being. Be forgiving. But never forget.

2 pointsSo I have been wanting one for my smaller garden tractors for some time. I have been looking in all the usual places for a good deal. Seems all that I can find must be made out of some kind of excotic materials. Because they are asking what I think is way too much money for them. The fact is I'm on a limited (tractor) budget by SWMBO...lol. So I have more time than cash, and enjoy the build process. What do you guys think? I made it out of 1/2 x 2 in spring steel. Zinc coated grade 8 nut an bolts 7/8 rod an some thick walled tubing.

2 pointsDoin today a 3 hr. Ride cross through the forrest, asked the Owner before i did it. after i got his ok, i go for a expanded Testride... My actual Results after that ride: I driven a climbing hilly way, to look how good the traction of rear Tyres workin. They got a real good grip, even on extreme bevel Ground i'm impressed how the small tractor graves his Way.. also in mud it grips so far, ok got few Clothes to wash, but hey it was a Testdrive π If the Way goes too strong, the tyres begin just to dig. So far i'm good with my choosed Tyres. If - as it was today, the Way was that slippery i didn't wanna leave my Tractor because It's too slippery for me and my Tractor gets a bit more - so everything is allright. I.M.H.O. 1. The Beltclutch works perfect, i can even shift while moving without any noise from the Gear. To find this optimum, i need a few belts, but now i got a perfect workin one. 2. In combination with any Cylinder endpoint hit and highes Gear, the Enginebelt definitiveley slips that causes earlier wasting of belt. Traction itself was given, only the Enginebelt begins sometimes to cry, so the span will maybe not enough - here i need a bit shorter Enginebelt. Then i dig a Shovel full of gravel and continouse my Testride with filled Shovel.... Wooohooo, i love it how that small FEL can work. πππ Playing about half hour with improoved FEL.... Feel like a kid with new Toys.... I enjoy that.... Ok, rear tyres need weights with more weight in Shovel, that's definiteley for shure, but with momentum i can dig into gravelpile and get my shovel to 3/4 full. With this fill ( don't know how much load it definiteley was) i can drive carefully without rearweights on 80cm lifted FEL. - not Bad- but i can feel it's going to be more wobbly. The rear tyres begin earlier just to dig but so far i got 100% success with it, never believed that it worked that Style.. Hard to describe how proud i am to my work. Then i driven back to gravelpile, lift carefully the gravel in shovel up and empty the Shovel. after a height of ab. 1,60m iam going to empthy Shovel fast, because wobbly began to be critical. I tryed also use a rope, and move a small laying tree.. it was a ripped tip of a spruce with about 3m lenght. moved it outta Way -works- than i bind it on FEL and try to Lift, hardes issue was to find the balance. yap, also workin... And can drive with it... - it is so cool... it was a very nice tip, good enough for a christmas tree...π have to ask, if i can recover π 1,5m Tree shall be fine... Ok, we allready purchased a Tree, but this one was then transported by my Wheelhorse....π Chainsaw is prepared....*remind* - have a lot of Discussions with my better halfπππ All in resume even if it just was a 212 Wheelhorse, it can now wokin better as i confidence or expected. It just was a simple SitOn mower before, not very carefully handled, but now it was a fantastic Multitool. I even enjoied the ride out of hektik - just tuc tuc tuc....

2 pointsnow that is what I call βPatinaβ. Lots of possibilities there Richie, gotta love the GT-14 only three point tiller and the Cat 0 three point setupβthose two items are worth the trip alone. I think Skittles would love that three point!

2 pointsI've said it before and I'll say it again. It is often easier to ask for forgiveness than to beg for permission. Disclaimer: I, ebinmaine, I am in no way shape or form considered to be a good role model.

2 pointsThank you, that was what I was wanting to do. Those guys started the company in a garage using common materials and parts. I wanted it to look as though it was built in 63. I'm looking for a source of square headed bolts to replace the hex heads I used. With those an a couple of well placed stickers it should look like it belongs back their.
-
2 pointsLooks good Jeff! I really like the style of those tires, sharp. With those paddle extensions fixed, you are ready for the nasty stuff when it shows up again. Hopefully this time around it will just be powder snow and not that garbage you received last time!

2 pointsI lent one of my 8hp Kohler engines out to a local school here that wanted an engine to tear down and rebuild for one of their shop classes. It smoked a little bit, and all I had to do was buy what ever parts it needed.

2 pointsI was more than a little put out that the morning news (GMA anyway) was so wrapped up in the same stories they constantly beat to death that they completely overlooked the "Day that will live in Infamy"

2 pointsThree coats of top coat to fender and footplates. Also some skate board grippy applied to the footplates. Footplates also mounted on tractor. Remembered to put the drive belt on, so I don't have to take things off to fit it. I know there's a bit of difference in paint tones, but I couldn't get spray cans in an exact match. But hey! Who cares. Two tone's good. Seat base and brackets are primed as well. Had fun with the split pins holding the spring thing's. Seized solid and snapped off and one of the springs has escaped to hide somewhere in the workshop.

2 pointsA voltmeter may not show anything. Anything over 50 milliamps draw is not deemed acceptable. So a hundred milliamps may not show up on a volt gauge. A low range ampmeter would be better or a DMM with a milliamp scale. Test lights usually do the trick providing there isn't too much surrounding light to see if the bulb is glowing. Test lights have a 9 volt bulb to show up better when testing 12 volt systems.
-
2 pointsDisconnect the negative (-) battery cable at the battery. Keep the key in the OFF position. Connect at test light or voltmeter to the negative battery post and the cable you just removed. If no short is present the light will not illuminate or a voltmeter will show 0 battery voltage. If a short is present the light will illuminate or a voltmeter will show battery voltage. Start disconnecting items one at a time and reconnect until you get the light out or 0 volts. When that happens you have found the problem circuit. Let us know what you find. Garry
