It seems that in this new modern era there is a chance that maybe someday December 7th, PEARL HARBOR just might be erased and forgotton by future generations. Dam shame that is. To all the men and women that were there on that fatefull day rest easy, most are gone now, old age and time has taken its toll. I am here to beat the drum of rememberence. Thank you for your service and I shall never forget your sacrifice. I guess only because my father was there serving aboard the USS PENNSYLVANIA. I hope this day does not become extinct in the minds of future generations.

Well the 867 custom I found a few weeks ago, and brought home is back working. When I got it it had a few major problems. Transmission was shot, 1 Hub was worn way oversize an the tie rods were shot. that along with a bunch of smaller other concerns. Good news was she's a looker and her 10hp tec purrs like a kitten. I know without pics it didn't happen so... I also made some heavy duty Tie rods out of 5/8 stock and grade 8 nuts an bolts. Put in studs to make installing those big tires easier..lol

So I have been wanting one for my smaller garden tractors for some time. I have been looking in all the usual places for a good deal. Seems all that I can find must be made out of some kind of excotic materials. Because they are asking what I think is way too much money for them. The fact is I'm on a limited (tractor) budget by SWMBO...lol. So I have more time than cash, and enjoy the build process. What do you guys think? I made it out of 1/2 x 2 in spring steel. Zinc coated grade 8 nut an bolts 7/8 rod an some thick walled tubing.

Well, thanks guys for the support, Rylee is free and clear of issues, checkup in 6 months! Woo hoo!

Oh and I wanted to say thank you to the members here that helped me get her back up an running. Stevasurus and his videos were priceless, along with the parts from Wheel horse parts an more. Offers to help from others an moral support was given. Can't wait for some snow to put her to work.

I'll let you guys wonder what's next for a custom

There was very little coverage this year. A shame on the media. Ignore history and you are doomed to repeat it....

Free and clear of issues..... That's more than I can say for most of the rest of us.

Yes we need to keep teaching this in school and remembering. Thank you to all that served. My dad caught the end of WWII in the security force in Germany. My step dad joined the Merchant Marines at 16 right after Pearl Harbor. The Merchant Marines while not true military lost more supply ships than the US Navy. They are somewhat forgot hero’s along with all the Military Veterans who are truly each hero’s

What do you need to know? The tie rod ends that I used I had found just going threw stuff I had laying around. They are all right hand threaded ends so you have to pop out one end to adjust. On the female end tie rod I just ran a bolt down, red loctite, and cut it off. I used 5/8 round stock for the bar, put some flats on them to hold it with a wrench. The old ones were 9in wide so I made mine the same with about 3/8in room in either direction for adjustment. Big difference in tractor, tires used to move around alot when driving. Not anymore, I shimmed the steering gear up to remove the slop in it. Not much seat time on tractor so time will tell how it all works out. But I did the same thing on my C160 auto last year and it worked out great.

Here is mine. 3 bolts through the front plate. My 953 and the 1054 will get them too. You can weld chain links to a piece of 5/8” rod and use it as a front tie down point also.

I’ve been thinking of ways the Wheel Horse Forum can do more with our love for these tractors and passion for maintaining them, than simply talking about them, taking pictures, telling stories, and accumulating them in our garages. I want to run this idea by folks and get some reactions. There are a lot of middle schools in this country that have entry level machine shops. These programs are designed to introduce young kids to the fundamentals of tools, machine design, repair, problem solving, and construction. What about the Wheel Horse Forum donating an old worn Wheel Horse to a school in need of a project? We would provide the tractors, funding, parts, and advice as needed for the class to restore the tractor. Then the school could continue to use the tractor as an example of machine/engine engineering, taking it apart, rebuilding it, demonstrating the skills and fundamental mechanics that go into the design, construction, and maintenance of machinery and engines. For us, this would promote a passion we all have, it would help seed this passion and associated values in some young people, and it would extend the life of a brand we are all crazy about. Just an idea. Thoughts?

May be time to add a splitter to your toy collection. 30 years ago I made a wood splitter, used it 3 years, older brother borrowed it, I am still waiting for him to return it.

And people wonder why I don't have cable TV anymore. If I wanted to know what a given person or organization or agency thought, I would ask them. I don't need them telling me what to think. Best we can do as individuals is to keep reminding people of the things that we have experienced in the past that led to create who and what we are today. Some were good. Some were bad. It's absolutely fantastic and I try as hard as I can to be positive minded as often as possible. That said, the negative things in my past have certainly shaped a portion of my being. Be forgiving. But never forget.

The media seems to only care about current conflict and what they want us to hear! God bless us all and shame on them! I mentioned it the other day with some one younger at the doctors office because my appointment was today and she had no clue about it ! SAD!

Three coats of top coat to fender and footplates. Also some skate board grippy applied to the footplates. Footplates also mounted on tractor. Remembered to put the drive belt on, so I don't have to take things off to fit it. I know there's a bit of difference in paint tones, but I couldn't get spray cans in an exact match. But hey! Who cares. Two tone's good. Seat base and brackets are primed as well. Had fun with the split pins holding the spring thing's. Seized solid and snapped off and one of the springs has escaped to hide somewhere in the workshop.

Well said sir. I was never in any of the service branches myself and I just want to say a big huge thank you to all of you and everybody you know that is or was.

That is what caught my eye too, when I found the tractor. I came to find out after I got it that a member here made it years ago. As it changed hands it was shown less an less love. Now its back, just in time for a good going over. The guy I got it from was ready to put it out for scrap. I had to put a little $$ an time in it, but to me it was worth it. It kinda has a old school Hot Rod look to it.

Scott Melburg has been doing this for several years in the school he teaches at in Indiana. Several Wheel Horse tractor owners have donated tractors to his student run club that has restored tractors donated to them. Tractors owners need to connect with their local school corporations to determine interest in accepting or receiving a donated tractor for use as educational tools.

Tuc tuc tuc it tells me... A long search has an end, finally i found 100% fitting seals for my FEL Liftcylinders. The selfmade was made of silicone, they are to weak an interrupts a smooth drop down. I tryed several seals but no one worked before as i expected, so i tried at last a Moto Guzzi fork seal and they fit perfectly like made for my Cylinders. Then (time was running so fast) i painted quick the new Shovelcylinder first with rust protection and then in Black. After that, i made a rocksolid Steelmount, by an Angle iron 5mm and a Clamp Plate to distribute the Force of the new Cylinder to a wider area in the FEL strut. yes , you're right, i welded it quick and dirty but it lasts, that was important. let's see how it works in Winter.... i also changed again the drive belt from an 1180mm to an 1170mm one, wich Idealizes the function of the clutch , for max friction in drive and also for complete interrupt without any rips or fract- fricts in gear while released. Here i got my destination reached. This was the perfect lenght. As i calculated, my FEL is now able also on highest stage to empty the Shovel. more Agle will just be possible, if i made a mech. movement enhancer but actual i have maybe no need for - we will see how it works in Winter. The new Seals Yes i know, not an eyecatcher, but stable....😎 The Light Bar on the FEL is also active (more Light) LED is brighter than it appears in Picture.. That's it for Today... next time i think i have to shorten the Front pipes in FEL and clean the Front with caps. maybe from 3D Printer... but now do a testdrive around the Company .... Think 3 times....😂 Then back home tuc tuc tuc

Found this today about Hollywood types who signed up after Pearl Harbor actually saw action not just to make movies... I worked with a guy years ago who was in the army stationed in Hawaii in the late 30s (Coast defense artillery). They drilled with wooden rifles rarely fired their big guns ..too expensive. https://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/celebrity/16-hollywood-stars-who-saw-real-life-combat/ss-BBQzu5s?li=BBnb7Kz

Thanks Glenn. My father served in the army air corps in WWll. They don't make 'em like that any more. Thanks for posting this thread. Everyone needs to realize how special this day is and should be to those who don't understand what it means to America.

I was more than a little put out that the morning news (GMA anyway) was so wrapped up in the same stories they constantly beat to death that they completely overlooked the "Day that will live in Infamy"

I want to caution the original poster to make sure to follow Wallfish's advice to COUNT THE LINKS-and then make the new one with the same number of links. DO NOT lay the old chain on the ground and cut the new one to the same length. You will not get it on-it will be too short. Chains stretch with use. Seems obvious but there was a post here a while back where the chain was made to the same length as the old one and you can guess the predictable question

First picture . This is made from a Rover power seat motor . 2 & 3 Window regulator motor from 2001 Silverado window regulator . I found that a 12 point 3/8" drive socket fit over the gear on the regulator and a 3/8" to 1/4" fit the shaft . Mounted the controls to the shaft support .. I guess I should have posted this as new or somewhere else .

great work on that , very thorough ! I like your get it done approach , that will have you upgrading and truly making that horse your own. Obvious mechanical background , has you not just repairing but improving ,as you go along. I find that w/h basics are good , but with just a little personal tweaking, things work smoother / easier. how dare you, put heim joints on a wheel horse ! keep it going , Pete

Great looking ride! Well done sir. I'd be interested to know more about the tie rods. I'm going to attempt that for the first time this weekend. I'll likely use a couple old ones cut/ tapped.

Sure will, I'm making a set of Hoe style heads that will bolt on instead of the tine tips. Thinking that they will work to chop off the weeds without digging into the soil. Making the garden work fun ...might get the kid's working in it lol.

Ok, given your fab skills, why not convert that rear bedroom into a toy hauler section. Then you can roll out the ole inflatable mattress at night and still have haulin room! Best of both worlds😂. Just sayin’! Don’t you wish women thought like we do?!

Fixed the headlights. It was a reluctant switch. Cleaned it up and it works fine. Replaced the incandescent bulbs with LEDs. For good measure, added an LED light bar and harness with rare earth magnet mounts. All items sourced from Amazon. I have some matte black adhesive vinyl I may try on the chute to help cut the reflective glare.

cleaning up the tank for TIG welding... My plans were to trim the bottom corner on the front of the tank, but seeing the internals makes me want to just weld it and deal with it. I think I’ll take the flange down a bit for a better weld area. I’ve got to extract a broken bolt too... but it’s bed time! We were in the hospital in July with little Rylee having some kidney problems, we have an ultrasound checkup in the morning. See y’all’s project updates in 6 hrs!

Between putting up Christmas lights, I managed to get a bit more painting today. Just three coats of primer. Hopefully topcoat tomorrow. Only footplates, Drive belt guard and fender. I think the footplate on the right will be getting a touch of filler. Should have done it before. In to the kitchen to fully dry overnight.
