Ok Red Square supporters. If your name is in RED (or BLUE if you are an admin ), you are eligible for this “contest”. I have had numerous members on here give me parts, advice, friendship and memories to last me a lifetime. I believe in giving back. I had made myself a cup and a couple had seen it in a picture and wanted one. So I made some. This one here was an experiment to see if I could duplicate “patina”. I think it came out ok. It’s a 20oz stainless Ozark Trail cup. These are handmade so the clear coat is not always smooth as glass but they come out nice. So here is the giveaway. The “Patina Cup”. Post in here and each supporter will be given a number in order of posting and I will compile a list and try to keep it updated daily. I will use a number generator and pick the winner. If you are not in the USA, you will be responsible for shipping. Will be picking a number Sunday afternoon, October 21. Thank you Red Square for letting me hangout and make this place a part of my life. 👊 LET’S TAKE IT UP A NOTCH 👊 I have this 40oz jug I bought but I didn’t notice it had two small dents on the bottom till I got home. Oh well...... let’s add it to the game. First number picked will have a choice of the cup or the jug. Will draw a second number for whatever is left. ***DO NOT PUT THESE IN THE DISHWASHER OR BLEACH THEM***

Found this Cub Cadet 100 on CL. Ad says it still runs, but needs a "car" battery. It has the 42 inch front blade with it. Ad also says it's a 1960, which we all know is incorrect since IH didn't sell their first L&G until 1961, and it was the Original. The 70 and 100 came out later, in 1963. Anyways, it doesn't run and has at least the starter/generator froze up, if not the engine (let's hope not!!!!). Seller says it needs a coil, but I have to address that when I can access the engine and the S/G situation. It was a brother and sister who had it, it was their dad's who bought it new. They still have the operator's manual for it. Deck worn out long, long ago, and after seeing their yard, I can understand why. I told him the rear tires were on backwards, but he said they were always like that and I wasn't the first one to point that out. I didn't get it home until late last night, so the only pictures I have is from the ad.

Your problem is most likely the shift rails and the suction they create when shifting fast or on the fly. The suction will pull back one fork while you slip into the other...thus causing you to be in 2 gears at the same time. Quick solution...pull out shifter and use a screwdriver to shift forks back into neutral...replace shifter and do not speed shift anymore. Total fix is to grind a flat on the shift rail or buy a couple of newer shift rails that already have been ground down. As far as the carriage bolts...you should be building the trans in the shallow side (input shaft side) of the case...the bolts should be up through the differential with the nuts on the top (or up)...you should be looking at the nuts.

Took down the last of the 50 blue spruce trees I planted in 1967. I have been removing them for the past 10 years as they die.

Put up some rod holders in the garage today. Decided to bring my Rods home this winter so I can service the Reels. Thank you Amazon. Actually I just enjoy looking at them.

@wheelhorseman has them and they should be used. Tiller can be some what of a brute to be lifted without it. Same with blowers especially a deuce. Pretty stiff spring and I have looked local without much luck.

I think The Rolling Stones did too? @WHX21 can’t always get what he wants. @WHX21 can’t always get what he wants. @WHX21 can’t always get what he wants. But if he’d just try some time, he just might find, he gets to change his X number! Oooooohhhh!!!

Been a while since I've got to do any work to this tractor, life sometimes gets in the way of things...did a little trading for an engine the other day...think I'm gonna mount it on here since this one is just gonna be a cruiser

Just scuffed the original tins, painted the block, and shot the first coat of clear. Bought the cylinder surround piece to put on Emory’s k91 that I robbed these pieces from, just waiting on it to get here. Don’t worry, I’m giving him the white set!

well hopefully 3rd time the charm got gears from ebay and i hope its something simple locked into 2 and reverse i think and won't come back out.....i think what has happened is the 2 ball bearings and pin and spring assembly came undone inside and something got lodged or i believe anyways also when we opened it up before we painted it to change the casee gasket we noticed things that wern't going good like on the bull gear the four bolts well the heads were chewed up a bit and the pin and spring assembly with the 2 ball bearings well 1 was missing but the bevel gears themselves luckily looked in great shape so i have a friend of mine that has tinkered close to 45 years specializes in john deere and old fordson tractor stuff, but is doing firewood at the moment so i got to wait another month when he's done with that......so here it is pulled out so far........ couldn't help myself playing with the lights for a minute or too

Good deal, I grew up on an Original and a 106 was my first (out on my own) garden tractor, still have the Original that has been upgraded with a 70s 8hp from a Gravely, and most of the cubs through the 90s were decent machines even after MTD took over in the mid 80s, Jeff.

What an awesome build! I am glad I read Kelly’s block identifying thread again, that lead me to finding this build, which I then binge-read! I hope all is well @JPWH, looking forward to seeing more progress!

I got a message from member evanloock, yesterday, he and his family a fine. They're staying with kinfolk in Alabama, their place, 25 miles north of Panama City has a little damage and the electricity is back on .

Yeah, I'll rest easier when the winter winds are howling this year Jim. Several of the tops blew off last winter, but didn't cause any damage. Many of them were close enough to hit buildings, cars, and power lines. And of course the big concern ….the COMCAST TV lines. Careful what you wish for there Jim. Hey, It costs me $10 a load to dump the brush at the local mulch recycler. I gotta get my moneys worth Jay. I'll let you know when I have an open day Dave. I do expect lunch to be provided.

Thanks! I'll start another thread whenever I need more info. I'm fairly certain that the axle is moving away from the transmission because of how far it's out. I read through a thread where a guy with a C-160 had the same problem and a C clip had come off allowing the axle to slide off. The tractor was mostly disassembled when I got it, so I assume someone was trying to remove the hub with a hammer instead of a puller, and the C clip couldn't handle it. Doesn't look like it'll be too big of a deal to fix. If nothing else, it's a good time to replace all of the seals. Thanks for the info!

Having just completed a FEL build myself (it is located on another GT forum on a GTX18), I just want to point out a few things that I really helped me out and really screwed me up. I don’t know if you’re using the pf engineering plans at all but there are a few things that I wish I did different. Biggest thing I will stress is keep all the plumbing fittings the same all over the place if possible. I transformed all the fittings to JIC (flare) other than the suction line. My cylinders were NPT, and the pump was SAE but I used adapters there to JIC hoses. I did this so I would only need to have one extra long spare hose on hand and it could be used anywhere in the system temporarily, until the hose was able to be replaced. Use weld in tank flanges for your reservoir and try and plan your hose runs early. Use an oil filter and use a shutoff valve right before the filter so you can change the filter without draining everything. Use this Loctite 545 for NPT pipe threads. Well worth the cost and easy to work with and remove and it seals excellent without a mess. Verify that you have zero porous welds on your reservoir by pressurizing the tank with air and using soapy water. I used 30psi. You don’t want leaks later due to this. This I screwed up big time with mine. I used 1”x1/2” DOM steel for the pins. The problem with this is if you want to use 1/2” pins they don’t fit without boring the steel out. Onlinemetals.com has some DOM that specifically is rolled for this and bored out a few thousands so a ½” pin. What I ended up using was ultra long M12 bolts for my pins. I would tie the end of the subframe behind the transmission with another piece of tubing to make it one solid frame. Make it easy to take the subframe on and off. This is a mistake I made and it is a pain to take my subframe on and off when I had a few issues early on. If I think of more I will add more or if you have any questions let me know.

Randy, nice loader. I'd like to see some pictures of your bucket cylinder since yours tilts from the bottom. Also what cylinder and line sizes you went with. I did some mock ups last night, got the usual issues to work through but the basic design didn't change. 3/16 x 2 x 2 frame, 3/16 x 3 x 4 cross and 1/8 x 3 x 3 verticals. It's what I was able to get for free so...

The engine is just a little 3.75 HP Briggs off of an old gas powered air compressor. As far as the front end I'm really not sure yet, don't want to do anything to wild and crazy with it, I've always wanted to do a tricycle front, this one may be the one that gets it.

Though I’d love to see the hydro (lift) in action, I’m not so sure if it would ever see real work.... but there’s no reason it couldn’t if needed! I have that zero turn now, and most likely won’t ever need to blow snow with my plow trucks around. At the very least, I’ll be glad to see all my family get on “their” tractors and we take a spin in the field, or head to the nearest Big Show, etc.
  36. 2 points
I love gear drive tractors for furrow plowing but when it comes to a run around tractor or a mower/blower setup it is hard to beat a hydro. That would make a really convenient machine and I think Mrs. Pullstart would really like the final product. It would have the vintage round hood/fender looks with the modern convenience of the hydro tranny. I also like the idea of using the newest style of frame that you can. When you can simplify a complex build like this, do it. Can’t wait to see what you come up with Kevin...

I think I knew that it should be a 1073 in the garage... coming in and typing it up, it wouldn’t cross my mind again no matter how hard I shook the other way! I think before I commit to the entire project, I’ll see about getting the 10 running on the Charger frame, to prove the transmission. Then we’ll see how the rest of it goes. I think I like the idea of swapping the 753 tins, but I’d most likely need to shorten the frame a bit (not out of the question). That would greatly improve the steering too Richard!
  38. 2 points
I like the direction you are going with this. Best bet may be to adapt the sheet metal from the 753 to the Charger 12 chassis to avoid having to recreate the speed control/direction control mechanism. It would end up being a 1073. First digit/digits = HP Center digit = 5; electric start, 7; hydro-static with electric start Last digit = Year.

Took my last open water trip for the year last weekend. Water temp was at 47 degrees on Fri & dropped 2 more degrees on Sat. I'll be putting my boat in hibernation soon, then it will be time to dust off the ice fishing gear.

It would be best to start a thread in the section that Best defines the question. That way others can search for that info later, easier. Double check to see if the axle is moving from the transmission... Or hub is moving from the axle... Or both. Repairable either way. I tore into a wheelhorse transmission this year for the first time. Surprisingly easy and simple to work on. @stevasaurus has some great videos and him and others have an amazing amount of knowledge to pass on about everything to do with the Horse.

If a 42" REAR discharge deck, the belt is # 108834. If it is 42 or 48 SIDE disch, the belt is # 102742 or 94-2501 (new # ). You should buy the OEM belt as aftermarket belts...IMHO....are inferior and make less than optimum geometric fit.

Well, I just pulled the tins from another original k91 I have. Seems even my own family likes the idea of a patina motor too. Going to the garage to clean them up and work on the block. Pics later tonight.

Similar day here. Fogged the motor, vacuumed out the interior, removed the fuel tank and batteries and wrapped it up. Sure sign that winter is coming

IMHO,Everything on EBay is more expensive due to the fees Ebay charges. I think you lose about 30% due to PayPal and EBay fees. I really don’t sell much anymore since they have shifted to a merchant format. I really don’t see many individuals selling like I used too in the earlier days around 2000. I’m looking for a good alternative to Ebay, locally it’s Craigslist.
  50. 2 points
eBay is rediculous. Some parts are worth more, but some I don’t why they bother! But, everything is getting more expensive, not just wheelhorse parts.
