Picked it up a while back for $300. Sold the WH trailer that came with it for $150 and the turf tires for $50. Plan to hang onto the original deck that came with it. Sold some free 23" ags and rims for a buck forty.......bam! I'm in for a cool $100.including the new ags. Hydro and the 14 HP Onan that couldnt run better. 500 hours plus change. Now what????

Jim Kemp let us know he was building a Nelson muffler replacement for the one on a 312.He was generous enough to send me one for evaluation. Here is what I found.Jim's muffler is very well built using a thicker shell. This shell shows no visible seam and the entire unit is about 50% heavier than stock. The inlet is set up for 1" pipe so that it can't be mounted to the stock Kohler elbow.I informed Jim about this and he is going to look into this issue.I have tested the prototype for sound quality comparing it to a pepper pot, generic replacement and stock Nelson.Sound measurements taken at the camera location show that Jim's prototype is the quietest of all 4 mufflers and 7 decibels lower than the first 2.

On the 42" wide snow plow I procured with the 315-8 purchase other than the angle lever MIA so was the attachment point as well as the triangle pivot for the "wire", so I made some cardboard templates from my other snow plow frame and on a slow morning at work made all the missing parts, 1) the lever attachment point was made from 1/8" wall 2.5" sq tubing all cut on a band saw but could use a cut off wheel on an angle or die grinder, and the bolt hole drill was done with a hand drill 17/32" for a 1/2-13 nut welded on the backside (if making a new angle lever 3/8" or 7/16" would work as well), 2) the flat stock for the triangle pivot was made from 3/8"x1" with a 25/64" hole for a 3/8'' diameter shoulder bolt, then 3) the triangle pivot itself made from 14ga mild stainless steel with two 3/16" holes for the wire and a 25/64" hole for the pivot bolt, I'll update as I get these parts welded on and functioning as intended, Jeff.

In Tallahassee, we are Ok. Total devistation west of here and along the coast. We have no power but crews are here today. Sorry no pics, my 312-8 is working hard.

Leveled the dirt floor in my 50 year old chicken barn today to start spreading gravel. Of course I had to use my brothers old Ford 9 N loader to bring the gravel in then worked it with the D and some raking. The 9 N was like driving a tank thru a battle ground. No power steering and having the big bush hog on the back for counter weight it was tuff making sure not to hit anything. Lol!

The Next Chapter... Almost two months later after our last post we found out at my uncles plow day that it could plow. Now we are getting it “suited up” for a plow day at Jim’s... As I mentioned on my last post the front of this thing was to light when the ground got tough so @WVHillbilly520H said that he had an extra front weight bracket available. So my Dad got it for me as an early Christmas present. It arrived in the mail three days ago. the next thing we are going to do is put some V61s on it for the front tires. Then get the rear weights on and get a rear LED light for night work...

Took advantage of the sun (haven't had much here lately) to clean up my Ugly Electro project. Tear down and clean up revealed as usual good news and bad news. Good news is the engine seems to be in good shape. (PO said it ran when he traded it in) It is a K341AS and it still has STD piston and no real damage to cylinder. Plan is to have this one go to a machine shop for complete work up. Bad news hydro has been replaced as it is a piston to piston not an original hydro gear. However saw some Blue RTV oozing out from the seam between tranny case halves. Why do people use that stuff on hydros, it is a terrible thing to do.

Here's a few I found. Our two daughters (now 38 and 40 years old). Heather on the 'B'-160 and Shannon on a 1054 I had just picked up. About 1985. Heather posing with the 1054. A few years earlier Heather and our friends son on a cruise with the B-80 prior to it becoming a 160. Geez! I don't have any gray hair! A few of the family herd at my sisters place. Early 80ish.

This picture was taken this morning with my son . I know there is a few photos of myself at that age on the same tractor with my father and grandfather. I'll dig them out later. Here's a start. Grandfather bought this gem brand new with all sorts of goodies. She's been working for 30 years and hasn't missed a moment.

My brother David and I sold two 1974 B 80’s and some small parts Friday at the Portland, Indiana Tri-State Engine Association Fall Swap Meet. Nice day Friday until rain and cold front moved in. Rained from about six thru midnight. Interesteing story about the 875Wheel a Mario Tractor (saw one for sale at this swap meet) was told by guy who bought out B 80’s. He worked at the Wheel Horse transmission shop (along with two of his brothers) and was involved with installing the very first automaticxin the 875 Wheel-a-Magic’s at the factory. Apparently degreaser was used on the automatics when installing andjusybefore hooking to the frame. Thencame the electro-static paintprocess. Done inapaint room on line that also had a “waterfall in room” to pickup paint emissions etc. well when the painted frame with transmission attached went into the heat lamp area of the booth they started on fire from the degreaser! He said this happened to about the first five or six 875’s in-line! i also got to visit with “Joe Bob” from Minnesota who was also at the Spring Swap Meet this year. Great visit with JoeBob one of the great Red Square guys!

Got a good amount of work done on the GT2500 today. Started out changing out the points ignition for magnetron. Chipped the flywheel around where the puller bolt threads in, luckily I had the flywheel from the other 2500 to use. I'm still deciding whether I should use the chipped one or not. Engine runs beautiful now. Next up was the shifter boot. All new now. Next, the clutch interlock switch. I got the actuator for that last week along with some switch connectors. Bolted up the actuator, wired the switch and all is good. Also got a new crankcase cover for the other engine. Waiting on a gasket set and plug so I can get that together again.

Gonna try to resurrect this thread. I’ll tweak it’s direction some to include tractors that you’ve owned for at least five years or that got you into the hobby. If you have have pictures of tractors that have been in your possession or your families possession for decades, please include those here. I was just rereading the above posts with pics and enjoying hem every bit as much as when I first read them...vintage tractor stories never get old the just become more embellished with age! This picture is only about 3 1/2 years old but it is a fabric of my life picture. This is GhostRider before his sinister paint job. I don’t ever plan to sell this plow mule and my youngest still loves to ride tractors and wants to plow himself now! Me, my brother, and Dad pose for a quick pic in the early 80’s on dad’s 875. AND SO...got any stories and or pics to share from decades back or only a few years ago?

Thank you for sharing that story. I'm sure there are many other stories like that from the factory that most of us here would love to hear. I'm worried that many of the folks who worked at the 515 W Ireland Rd factory are no longer with us and able to share their stories.

Don't quite remember being invited for said "excavation" party but something tells me you wouldn't have waited for me to show up anyways .

Now mind you guys this was all done with TURF tires, and no WEIGHTS 'cept for my carcass in the seat. Sure ther was some tire spinning going on but the old girl and I soldiered on. Less than tank of gas.

It is so neat to see how these little tractors are woven into the fabric of so many peoples’ lives. Even new guys like @Nat Faust who just joined the site this week with his first WH just purchased, is starting a new phase of life intertwined with the brand. Keep these stories and pics coming...dig into your archives and find them.

The J8 is the important part of the plug number, the "C" means copper plated electrode and the "R" means it has a resistor built in to prevent radio interference. Did you gap the new plug at .035"? Was the engine running well with the old plug? If so what was the brand and number on the old plug?

Sounds like a good time in spite of some rain. SO, did you get an answer to the age old question, what is Wheel Horse RED?
  28. 3 points
Try Xtreme. The ends are tapped 1/2-13 for bolts to keep your weights on. "The plate bolts to your rim and puts the weight to the ground, not on your axle bearings. Holds your weights off of the rim so that you do not scratch them. Plate comes with a 1" or 2" shaft so weight lifting weights work great and are readily available. Must specify shaft size and shaft length on checkout." http://xtrememotorworks.com/Parts Catalog/Wheel-Weights-Cub-Cadet.html

Well since Hillbilly didn't want extended seat time to come over with his FEL and Tractorhead doesn't have a snorkel on his FEL I had to do it all with a lowly 867 and a mid mount. You canaries can make all the fun you want about the short comings of a 8 HP but here's the truth. Two loads of screenings all done with said tractor. New horse hide out ready to move in! When I started .... When I was done

After reading online (I know, can be dangerous), I need to measure inside the rim bead, meaning my wheels are probably 7 inches wide. I'm finding mixed results on the 10.50s working on the 7 inch wheels, all depending on the tire brand and which tire "model". Hopefully these Kendas will work okay, I'd hate to mount them on my 7 inch wheels and find out I need to buy some 8 inch wide wheels and re-mount them. Fingers crossed. I have read that some people run the tires a little lower PSI to get the tread to sit "flatter" rather than arching.

Gonna be grabbing my grandpa's late 70s Snapper, and the neighbor mentioned his dad having a wheel horse sitting in the barn......12x20 may not be enough room hahaha

I'm usually into the old round hoods but I have to say I'm warming up to a few of the newer models. Funny that a few parts on this '93 have some older wheel horse parts. The fuel shutoff valve is identical to the one on my '66 LR. Also when I sanded the grey wheels to prime them.....under the grey was WH tan paint. It has a angle iron frame like the old ones. Cast aluminum trans though. I am also a hydro convert now.

I made my own for the front of my 854 8 speed. There is a local guy that buys and resells gym equipment he sells the "broken set" weights for 50 cents a pound. I made a jig to drill and tap them for the 1/2 inch threaded rod - they can be tough to drill! Like EB, the tires are tubed and filled with windshield washer fluid. The large diameter also keeps the snow out of the rims. Also made a set for her C series sister..... Bill
