Having a few people over for a bonfire...figured I’d put the 656/Honda to work. Hauled out a few chairs that needed scrubbing and a couple loads of wood. Have some nice dry pallets close by as well . Wife wanted me to toss out a wicker laundry basket today (but I saved it for tonight! Wicker burns great!!)

The folks here get it. Fun mixed with technical information about useful toys. I’m glad to be a part of this forum.

We are glad you came along too. For me this site is all about people helping others, It is sort of like sitting around the shop sharing information about tractors and other random thoughts we exchange with each other. The only thing this electronic gathering place doesn't have is the handshake and warm smiles you can exchange in person, that is what the "Big Show" is for.

Hey, there's hillbillies in Pa. too... That's why we call it East Virginia

Agreed. It's why I became a supporter after being a member for a bit. I hear of the same in police, fire, bikers. I see it my self in truckers and of course Tractor folk. The title name is an interesting choice. I see it the most in my hiking community. Whenever someone in or out of the group does something nice for no reason whatsoever.... We call it "trail magic".

I do have my group of car "nuts" but they're a very small band back home, where as here I/we have "friends" and tractor "nuts" from across the globe good time an info galore.

Pulled the 120 out of garage. Hooked up to trailer. Pulled some wood to have a little campfire. Love the cooler temperatures. Happy first day of fall to everyone.

The title comes from experience with other social media. The Wheel Horse crowd here is pretty special. Way more than just little tractors. That’s just the item that draws us here. All of you guys Make the forum what it is and the difference. I can’t say it enough how cool I think it is!

Couple pallets to get us a nice bed of coals. You can see the sacrificial wicker basket just waiting it’s turn 🔥

Since the tractor show was postponed because of all the rain since last weekend, I took the step-son a little farther south down I-81 to Lexington VA, and a big car show here's some pics @PeacemakerJack, @Machineguy, @cschannuth (a ranger just for you), @pullstart, @ebinmaine @Achto and any other RS member enjoy, I'll try and make it to the rescheduled time for the Steam and Gas meet and share, Jeff.

Eric, My Northern Hillbilly friend, you’re a welcome friend anytime you ever want to visit us in Appalachia! You’re a person of great character and integrity. Exactly the type of people I hoped to connect within this forum!

Well I jumped on the Patriot Horse B80 this morning to back it out of the shed to make room to work on other things like the 1267 and the transmission for the cinnamon horse c-160. I was going to compact a little bit of soil using the very heavy weight of the tractor. Got it backed out of the way and around the corner and it died. it was turning over and I had gas so I started poking around at the ignition system. Watched a video or two. Read a few posts on this amazing website. Got out the old DVOM and figured out after testing that of course - the last thing - that I check, the coil, is bad. I took a few coils out of the pile of auction parts and tested them across the board and I found that one of those was also bad and it is now set aside. I took one of the good ones and put it on the tractor and poof! Running tractor.

Get the style insert with the serrated teeth. Once inserted you expand the insert with a special tool that with along with loctite will lock the insert to the head, Make sure the insert is in all the way so the plug will be at the correct height. If it's in too far the plug may hit. If it's too shallow, you can burn a piston.

I had both types and sold the one that attaches to the rear axle because it tended to dig in too much. The mid mount is best for controlling your cut and I do not use a solid link when it is on a hydro, a chain will keep it from digging in. A landscape rake behind helps to finish the job (mine is home made).

It does not change plug size. it is a good idea to pull the head so no shavings get inside...I have done two that way. They recommend tread locker on the insert i would do that.

I purchased this from Roy at R & B Stables early this past spring, and was finally able to bring it home. I've gotten 2 other tractors from him in the last 2 years, plus a couple implements. He brings them to a tractor show in Clio, Michigan every September. The drive is pretty brutal (11 hours round trip). It rained from the time I crossed the state line, and stopped when I returned to Ohio. It was a rough trip, but his tractors are beautiful, to say the least. I've gotten to know him and his wife pretty well over the past few years. They truly are a wonderful couple, as I'm sure a lot of already know.

That's always how it seemed with the lil ATV I had for my boy back home, fixing it more than he actually rode it...BTW sometimes I can load a truck a bit like you...

For the history buffs, Lexington Va, is where this car show took place and is very historic. The home of VMI and Washington And Lee University. The tomb of Robert E. Lee is in the chapel on campus. The university is named for him and his wife. His wife is the great grand daughter of George Washington. Lee was the strategic mind of his age and was Lincoln’s first choice to head the US military. Lee declined and stated he was a Virginian first. Despite stereotypes he was by all means an intelligent man. His former estate is now Arlington National Cemetery. Lexington is the resting place of Stonewall Jackson and many other people that shaped our nation. I hope to visit Gettysburg while at the Big Show and thought I’d mention the history 3 hours South of there!

I had similar problem(s) some time ago. Kept glancing at the Horse. Keeping the Stallion just 'cause he was so good. Then, went to work. Revived the Horse and now I grin every time I look at it. We're buddies! DO NOT THROW THE TOWEL IN!

FWIW: I have a Ford 1700. Have had it for about 17 years or so. Great tractor. Mine is 2wd with turf tires. I do not have a loader. It’s a 12 speed fwd, 3 reverse. Live hydraulics with one rear remote. Manual steering. Transmission driven pto with built in overrunning clutch. 60” Ford belly mower. 72” rear generic blade. Lift boom. I have a front pto kit. I can’t recall hours but I think it might be 1300 or so. Solid machine. Just don’t need it anymore. It’s for sale. If interested, send me a pm. Would like to see $3500 for it. The newer 1520 is probably a better tractor. Certainly more modern. But that one looks expensive. Steve

@dells68 You could just let me take the tractor home and test it thoroughly. After say 20 years or so when I know it’s worthy of your collection I’ll return it.

Thanks Paul. I assume I can get the insert and tapping tool at any auto store. Bye the way, you helped me a great deal with my hydrostatic transmission repair last year. It is going strong. I will always remember your help.

She's nothing special, just a 318-8, going on almost 30 years old, with almost 2800 hrs, and has hardly given me any grief since we bought it new. To say its' been very reliable would be an understatement. It's cut a LOT of grass over the years, and I've never had the engine apart. Here's a few mods/repairs I've made. Since the original deck linkage and rubbing parts all have wear, it was cutting the grass too short, even on it's highest setting. So I figured one way to get it higher(without having to go through all the linkages and parts) was the create a 6th stop, or hole for the deck height setting. So I took off the deck height adjuster, and figured where the next hole would go. Drilled out the ends of the slot and removed the center with a carbide on my die grinder. Works great! The hood hood stop that sat on the top of the dash was a mickey mouse affair, so I make up a couple hood rests out of some thinner angle iron, and bolted them to the sides. They hold the hood firmly, and it no longer flops back and forth. The seat strut crapped out, so I just took part of a broom stick, measured from the bottom of the fender bracket to a bolt under the seat. found an unused hole in the fender bracket and just put a screw to hold it loosely in place. When I need gas, I flip up the seat and just place the handle under a nut,and that holds it nicely. Otherwise it just lays there. The steering was something terrible loose. So I looked under the hood, and there was a thin piece of metal there behind the dash that held the bushing in place for the steering shaft. Someone must have caught one of the wheels on a turn, and jammed it, taking that force back to the steering shaft and bending it up, thereby making the steering gears skip. So took that top panel off,and got a nice piece of 14 gauge steel, make a proper shaped (flat sided) hole for the bushing to sit in,and bolted it UNDER the piece of metal, tightening up the steering shaft very nicely. The steering block at the bottom of the steering shaft still needs to be repaired, but this made it much better, til I get to that job. She's taught both my sons how to drive using a clutch and gear shift. What better way to do it. After that the could drive our older 8 sp tractors and standard trans cars and trucks. The old 312 is in her work clothes, but it's one machine we never regret buying, and it will stay around here with us for a long time yet. Thanks. Frank

A little more work on the project the last few days. Trina did some more disassembly of the old chassis and we discovered that the tool box/ seat base was more rusty and rotted than I knew. That always sucks but I just dug into the parts pile and found what we needed. Here's some updated pics.... This is what my honey will be working on painting tomorrow. And here's what's left of the old chassis. I'll use the wiring, engine, hubs and wheels/tires from this on the new one. The 8 speed will be split and rebuilt sometime.

Seems like if you want a street rod all you need to is stuff a chromed up Small Block Chevy 'tween them fenders, kinda like the blown Ranger, that red Stud is turbo forced induction 4.3L Chevy V-6, and unfortunately for me the "G-body" was under represented maybe next I'll roll in my 'BU.

Took today off work and spent it tinkering on one of my junkers. It was a 656 originally. Sports a Honda under the hood now. Painted up the rims, added a hood ornament and relocated the front weights. With that light weight Honda this thing will pop a wheelie at 1/4 throttle! Damn scary! Moved the weights to between the frame rails. I know the Honda’s get no respect but this one runs so smooth and real quiet. You can actually yak on your cell phone while cruising on this tractor! Try that with the original Teccy 6!! This one will be my show cruiser at Zagrays in a couple weeks. Hope to see ya there!!

I’ve had two and found heat and a mounting location are key. I’ve mounted this downward from the tank pulling a siphon as electric pumps push far better than pulling. Also you’ll note it on the outside on the hydraulic cooler that pulls air in directly through the main cowling on my CCKB Onan. Once I put this unit there it’s been golden! Keep’em cool and keep them primed on the suction side they’ll last. BTW, it’s a different brand tractor! Lol
