Bob, I don't know how I missed this (I think you started it on my b'day weekend in Pigeon Forge) anyways my lil tractors are 4 seasons machines, I'll let the pics tell the story...in no particular order, Jeff.

I enjoy working on my horses up to a point. But I have really enjoyed blowing snow the most. Especially after I got a cab. That really helps.

Eric, My electrical help is available anytime. I strongly advise anyone who listens to me on such things to have a fire extinguisher ready!

My new favorite thing is unloading wagons and running the elevator. I must have unloaded at least 12 wagons during this year’s pioneer power show.

@kto434, the hydraulic lift on the classic is as about as simple as one could be, single ram actuated with a single lever, power up gravity down, once you go finger strong lifting you'll never want to go back to arm strong lifting , IMHO and experiences.

Chris to be completely honest here. I didn't notice the dog either. And we are not tractor obsessed. We are tractor dedicated. Soooo... Back a couple years ago my honey and I had a couple friends over to the house. One of them is a single guy. He was on a website where you swipe left or right to approve or disapprove of your potential partner. He said some sort of exclamation and I was like, what?! It was a girl in the picture who was quite attractive and obviously couldn't afford to buy a whole complete shirt. He showed her to me and then I showed her to my honey and my honey says that's a cute dog. Neither my friend or myself had even noticed that there was a dog in the picture!

As my grandmother would’ve said, oh bless it’s heart! Lol!! Which is a polite way of saying it’s ugly in the South! All joking aside, I like the heavy usability of the big D-series. They are different in their styling especially the grill but that’s certainly outweighed by the power they have. It does look like someone did a good job with the paint work and creating the look they wanted. I can appreciate that even though it’s definitely not my style. But that’s the beauty of this hobby. We can make these things whatever we want and are only limited by imagination and budget usually. Better to see it green and running than crushed or rotting.

I hope you have a since, cents, sense of humor...because I can't figure out what you are talking about...or what horse. I do want to say that...WOW what a nice bench top to be doing things like that on. You are either single, or the MRS. is not home. Seriously, could you elaborate a little if you still need any help???

Go easy, Olivers have a soft spot with me, and they did a good job making it look like an Oliver Then again my old Oliver isn't much to look at, but like a D its a beast of a worker.

For me it is riding the horses around the block...and if there is snow, I'll blade everyone's sidewalk. My wife, on the other hand, loves the horses because she is one of those people that...if there is a flat spot, she has to put something on it. There is always something sitting on the hoods and seats of my horses.

Ok, Eric I have the dots but from there I can share via (several choices but none labeled link) as far as screen shot goes that's rather simple most Android phones are press and hold "volume down and power" (side) buttons simultaneously for a second it should take a pic of the screen therefore putting it in your "downloads" and I figured it out how to share a link now...http://www.cubcadetman.com/cc/how-tos/2010/04/checking-a-mechanical-voltage-regulator/...cool an old hillbilly can learn new tricks... @WHX20, uhmmm... Here's the funny part Eric you asked how to test a regulator and we learned how to use our cell phones, all on the greatest "tech" forum going, Jeff.

I'm a fan of keeping it original, but since it has my last name on it I can't help but like it!

I appreciate all thoughts/comments, no offense taken at all. I see your points and maybe it makes sense for me to keep looking. The thing I like about the 520HC is it is close and cheap, and I prefer hydro over gear drive. The hydraulic lift I could keep. I just like simple is all and (to me) manual lift is simpler than hydraulic lift. I would never use a 60-inch deck—too big and cumbersome for me. I would run my 42-inch rear discharge deck. For me, ithe tractor would be a tool only, not a collector’s piece. I am good at working on single cylinder Kohlers, but have mostly heard horror stories about Onans around here—very expensive to repair, parts difficult to get, and none of our local shops will work on them (three strikes against them). I would rather sell the Onan to someone who can use it/appreciate it and buy something I can work on. Thanks for the info and suggestions. I will report back and keep you in the loop.

I like to hang my dirty clothes in the basement on the wife’s unused exercise equipment when I’m fresh out of the garage! There is some justice in the world @stevasaurus

Yeah they aren't much to look at but they do work. He probably went Oliver cause he can't afford a real one. They are one of my other favorite tractor but they command a price if you can even find one around here. Least it ain't green and yellow! Did you look at the bikini or the beach ball first Chris

Seafoam has changed - not just in color, either. Doesn't work nearly as well as it used to but it can help clear varnish. The B-12 does seem to work a lot better but be careful using it in modern emission engines. Most of the true cleaners have lost the zip due to EPA rules, no substitute for taking a carb apart and give it a real cleaning. On picky engines, replace the idle mix needle, main jet needle, and a new main jet - they work like new again as long as the throttle shaft isn't worn. If you use ethanol - you're on your own there. @Tankman Well I guess it's time for me to admit I might have a obsession with tractors. Cause I didn't even notice the dog.

At the top of this section you will find a pinned thread with all kinds of paint recommendations. Bottom line is this tho ... The shade of red isn't really important as long as it's RED. It's alot like throwing hand grenades. ..just get it close.

I have to say first that wheel horses changed my attitude over all chores around here. Having a large property keeps one constantly busy and many times it is hard work. That however changed as Wheel horses started arriving here. 1-Mowing one acre of lawn used to be a dreaded chore even with a professional walk behind mower chasing after that crazy machine on hot days. Now I look forward to doing it twice per week while sitting on the horse basically admiring the place as I mow. 2- Snow removal was absolutely the worst experience of the year. Between shovels and trying to muscle a large snow blower around, at the end of an hour of it I was physically done for. Now I find myself wishing for snow. Plowing with the Electro is about the most fun I have with any of the tractors.I now even do several neighbors' driveways.I find myself spending a whole day out there just trying to find more snow. Now I cant wait to also use the new 520 with the monster two stage on it and a cab which I recently obtained. 3- Leaf season was another dreadful job. Those pesky leaves never stop coming down. Again, with the newly devised leaf blower attached to front of tractor, I am always looking outside hoping for more leaves on ground. Probably the most satisfying of all jobs here now. 4-Hauling firewood to the house was another hard job here since I keep it at the very end of property. No problem now. Having several wagons, I actually keep one always loaded, just in case I am in a hurry next time or don't feel like loading it. 5-The real treat is also driving grand kids and others around in the wagons. Not only we love it, but neighbors enjoy seeing so much that they insisted that we go through their properties whenever we want. To the point that I am able to actually go through two different towns all through neighbors yards and backstreets. 6-Then when I am bored or upset about anything I find that just going to work on a horse is the best therapy for me. I even now have a dedicated tractor shop, finding myself in there many times up to 2AM. So, as one can see there really is not any one specific usage that is really my favorite. All of them are greatly enjoyed for how easy they made my life around here. I keep different tractors set up with different implements so I don't need to be setting anything up. I merely jump on to another one for a different function. In addition to that, I have over the years improved them by adding many modifications and great ideas that I have come across in Redsquare from many different members.

Found these while picking up a parts snowmobile at the local weekly auction yard tonight... just felt like I had to have them! Initial thought was to tear the off brand mower apart to build an attachment for Putt Putt, but maybe I’ll have to use the DB mower attachment and build my own WH adapter. They were separate auctions, so I went home and duked it out on both until I won ‘em! All in all, they both have free and complete engines, and the sickle bars both move freely as well. After fees I’ll be into them for less than I see just the walk behind David Bradley tractors go for. Any insight to the non-David-Bradley machine? The engine constantly runs the mower via belt drive, and the wheel drive engagement is from the wooden handled lever. The DB is Briggs powered, the no-name is Clinton.

I'm wondering if I can determine if these are any good without plugging them into a running engine?

Swapping out the Onan for a Kohler is a viable option if you want to work the tractor. For a lot of us here these machines are tools and we don't care to show them. With that said I for one try to make sure that any modification isn't something that can't be undone.I think an engine change out falls into this category.I agree that the hydro lift is simple and you will gain little in simplicity or ease of maintenance if it's replaced. The machine is yours.Do what works for you and your needs and don't worry about the long term value of a tool. The builders of this machine sold them as tools and that's the bottom line.

Maybe I'm a bit slow, but I can't really see why you would want to do those things. The 520 HC is a special and appreciated model, that many see as one of the best WH ever made. What you want to do to it, is basically just a downgrade from some of the things that makes it special. Why not just buy a running 1 cylinder 300 or 400 series with manual lift instead. Probably leave you with cash in hand too. You can bypass the hydraulic lift, but again, why? Some of the implements the 520 can run, her i think foremost of the 60 HD deck, is not something I would like on a manual lift. It would take mostly a complete manual lift system off another tractor and then some, and a lot of tinkering. Yes you can fit a single pot engine, but don't go too small. The HC has a higher gear ratio than the other horses. The frame is the same AFAIK. It is the swept front axle that makes it "longer" or more precise, makes room for a 60" deck, which you have no chance pulling with a single pot. I'm sure you have your reasons, but to me this plan of downgrading is like putting a Fiat motor in a Ferrari, and then pull out the leather and substitute for a plastic garden chair. You will end up with an expensive Fiat in drag. Just my , and not meant in any bad way.

I’m hoping to do some of the same this winter myself! I’ve got a 30” Massey Blower I can put in the 700 with ease and good 42” factory snow plow setup too! Can’t wait!! The track width I measured is 29-1/2” wide so this little thing with 14hp and that Kohler torque should be awesome! This was my primary purpose for the build other than sentimental reasons. That and maybe putting around the big show.

Hey, Jeff, you're one up on me. I can't figure out how to do a screenshot from this foool thing. I don't know how yours is set up but on mine, there are three little dots at the top of the right corner of the page below the time. If you press those one or two or three times eventually it'll make up its mind that it'll give you an option to share a link. Basically copy and paste after that. Trina and I have a running joke that both of the phones I've had are smart dumb phones or dumb smart phones. Bob, Robert, Bobb-o. Buddy ol pal. I don't think that's quite the test results we're looking for here.

Here's where you go to learn all about Wheel Horses. Brian's is where you go to learn all about Kohlers! That said, when I need an engine I buy one with the tractor still attached! Cheaper than just the engine! Plus I can see and hear it run!

Dave, Thank you for the pictures. They confirm that I'm a dumb a_ _. I took it apart because the tab broke off the end of the shaft. There wasn't a trace of weld on the end nearest the Woodruff key, and there seemed to be a trace on the other end so you know what happened. The reason it got stuck was because the woodruff key couldn't get past the threaded collar. I already took the tab off, now I have to make a new one, and put it on the right end. I don't have a welder so I'm thinking that I'll braze the new on. The tab is about 90 degrees from the key. Very much like Dave's picture but it doesn't seem that critical. I'm going to put it back that way but I'm wondering how fussy I need to be. Anyone have thoughts on that, or brazing? Last question. Isn't there a brass bushing on the other end of the shaft? Steve is correct. She's not home. The tractor is mostly a 1975 C-160. But, some of the sheet metal is off other C's that I have owned. Plus one of Matt's foot pedals simply modified for C's. I can send the details to anyone interested.

I spoke with a BerryMans rep recently who told me that basically it was Seafoam at 1/2 the price. If you'll search for Seafoam Msds you'll find that's its not rocket science. Not saying that it can't work, just that someone might be getting wealthy per gallon. Not knocking it. I use it! But I might be using more BerryMans....

Father in Heaven, you are the giver of life and the great physician. You know our needs and wants. Please heal John. We know that his brain has been damaged by stroke, we know that without your hand on him that he will never be the same. At the same time we also know that you can make him whole again, you can repair damaged brain tissue, you can enable him to continue to serve you on this Earth. Lord, hear my petition. Be with his wife and family as they experience this storm in their lives. I don’t always understand your plan for us, but I do trust that you work all things for the good. I only ask that it be your will to bring Glen back to us. I ask these things in the name of your Son and my Savior, Jesus Christ. All glory and honor belongs to you. Amen.

Thank you all for your prayers and concern. I have no doubt Mark has the physical, mental, and spiritual strength to win this battle. The only reaction to his first chemo treatment has been a lasting hic-cup that kept him awake last night. Here's a picture taken 5 days after the lung surgery. Yes, we had a fishing trip planned and Mark refused to cancel the trip.
