Pretty good shape with 521 on the clock. Also came with a nice later model 48” deck. The only real issue is where the seat mount bolts under the shift lever plate. Easy fix with some 11/2” angle. Decent deal for $550 in my part of the world.

figured I would post some other color, took the david bradley suburban out for a spin around the property today. it's a neat tractor one of my favorites for looks but it's constant adjustment to keep it in line. enjoy

Built a 2" receiver hitch that uses the upper and lower flats on the unidrive and the hitch mount cast into the back of the transaxle.

Went to a persons house that was advertising a wheel horse snow plow for sale for $50. He stated it was usable, but rough. I arrived and looked at the plow, He stated I could have the plow for $50, or whole, NON running tractor and deck for $75. It took me about 3 seconds to get my wallet out and give him the money. Hope I did out ok. Its a 1100 Special. Im sure I will be full of questions. I find myself looking at numerous websites, for wheel horse items. Im sure there has to be a cure, but Im not sure on what the number of tractors will be the cure. LOL

Racinbob that’s a nice machine you got there. I just bought a 500 yesterday. The owner says he bought it off the original dealer 22 years ago but it appears some things have been changed before he got it. I have a few things to find to make it “right” whatever that is

Great work! My grandfather was a furniture maker and finish carpenter. He made a lot of custom trim and mill work. I’ve got an old plane of his he loved that you might find interesting. It’s a Stanley from the late 1800’s my Pops called it a coffin and boat makers plane. You can adjust the beam to cut around radiuses. When he’d join custom trim that cased curved windows and doors he use it for that a lot making fine adjustments before sanding. It’s got the original japaning and finish just as it was last he used it. I’ll keep it and appreciate it till I’m gone.

In between chores, I managed to get the front axle pivot brackets welded in. Still have clean up to do. Baby steps.

I am on the Indiana State Tree Farm committed ( and have been on this committee for ten years) that promotes and educates landowners participating in the growing of hardwood trees. I am working at the Indiana State Fair today. The use , appreciation and growing of quality hardwoods is still a greatly appreciated activity by many people! It is always a pleasure to see quality items made from our American hardwoods! Thanks to Tool Crib for posting this.

Well I have good news and bad news... The good news is... There is no known cure. The bad news is... There is no known cure. I think that's a great deal for that tractor!!!

The D250 and D200 mated and this is what they produced. must be something askew in their genes, it came out the wrong color. Marv

Thanx! I like to use reclaimed wood or now it's called repurpose. I look for fallen timber and leave a small foot print! My neighbor has 200 acres of woods of some huge trees. Some as large as 4 foot in diameter. Here are couple more pieces. A full size bed frame and a book shelf.

Thanx for the wonderful reviews on my work! I put heart and sole into each piece I build. Here are a couple more pics. One is a hall storage/seat the other is a Morris chair and ottoman made from black walnut and green leather.

Gotcha all beat.... My 48" side deck has a stainless steel liner in it. Bought this for my Bronco 14 and it started to rust out. At the time, I worked for a tool & die shop and I made a cardboard template of the deck shell. They used that template to custom make a stainless steel liner, then mig welded a 4" front 'apron' for it and it bolted right in. That was in early 80s, still goin' strong...NO RUST.

Are you sure you have the right A-frame. There is a dozer A-frame made for a SHORT tractor, and another for a LONG FRAME traftor...they are NOT the same, and neither is the Axle bracket. It should look like this one...axle bracket is shown too. I'm also posting a pic of a SHORT FRAME dozer blade...(not for the 310-8).

I understand your problem. Need to nip this in the bud right away. Drop it off at my place or tell me where it is and I will come and get it. That will solve your problem before it gets worse. Marv

After taking a couple of weeks off I got back to work on the Ranger this week. I've got the block ready to paint, just waiting on a new pan gasket to get here. All the engine tins are painted so I hope to get the engine mounted this week. Once that's done I need to get started on the hood, wiring and final assembly.

I was a full on Cub guy that when I purchased a loader mounted on a WH, I was going to just use the WH till I was done with my retaining wall. Then I was going to move the loader to a 149 then sell the WH. I came to love the WH and now own 5. I still have more cubs and one sears and if I ever found a JD 318 for the right money, I would have some green too!! But alas, I have found a home at Red Square and will always be loyal to the Red!! No, Eastwood products work for me! I live in a very small town in the mountains of North Carolina and there are no auto finishing supply houses here so I have found Eastwood to be very good about shipping and beats a four hour round trip to pick up supplies. If you have a good supply house I'm sure they will have an equivalent product.

Thanks Eric. You picked up a dandy. Sure, some things have been changed but not near as many as the changes I made to mine. How many 50 year old machines don't have some changes? I like yours as is but it would be cool if you got it back as close to original as possible or made it just the way you want it. Here's a later shot with a couple more things done.

I've been in his garage he doe not speak with forked tongue! My life's dream is to tag all the hoods, motors, brackets and horse parts and catalogue them on a spreadsheet and neatly line them up on a shelf. Then I wake up from that dream to stumble out in the shed and see a jumbled mess in milk crates! I'd get some pics but my camera would never work again. Really @RandyLittrell why more rattles of Cub Yellow than Regal Red?!?!? Hope you ain't gonna tell us all the green got used?

Yes they slide in and out makes hook up fairly easy
  27. 3 points
I have to say that I have never had a 3 point on a tractor before or any attachment for one. This seems pretty cool, but diffidently has to be an easier way to hook it up off the floor. The hard part was hooking up the Lt and Rt hitch pins. I unhooked the sway chains to spread the two lower point arms but still had to slide the mower into them, which is heavy with my bad back! Is there something I'm missing to make this easier? I'm learning this morning how to adjust mower to tractor to use it. I greased everything up I could that moves and turns. Also I don't have the check chains, so how important are they? and how long should they be if I make some up?
  28. 3 points
I use the chains as the ground i cut was very rough and uneven with depressions etc. I made up a simple dolly keep it under the front of the mower. 2x6 scraps an some cheap casters. Makes it easy to move around the storage area. Also gets her up high enough to line up with 3 pt. Also lets you move the deck around a bit to get the 3 point arms hooked up. (Skipper move the tract I move the deck 2 different solutions)

My two principal summer mowing tractors get Rotella...everybody else gets the TSC version. Probably no material difference but it makes me feel better.

You would not get me under that building on a bet. Please add some ties to the bottom of the posts and cross bracing between the posts in two directions. The way it is now the posts could lay over leaving the building on the ground. Looks like they are already starting to go. Garry

Gday all I have just entered the previously unknown (to me) world of wheel horse. Today i picked up this garden tractor . i am told it may be an early 60s model and that it was re-powered at some stage with an 8hp Kohler. Its in fairly good nick considering its age. Serial no is 62-24420 It came with an unused grader blade, a pair of 4 tyne rippers( unused) , mower deck and a home made trailer. Quick questions What model do i have here? Is there a resource showing the build dimensions of the main guard belt (missing). or where to buy repro? im am learning fast thanks in advance Steve

Looks like pfrederi also has non fixed hitch pins (they look like they can slide) and that means you get even more space and flexibility to hook up. You might even be able to drive right into the perfect spot! Brilliant idea!

Sway chains should not be so short that you cant just hoop up with them on. But tight enough that the arms cant touch the tires with a good margin. I have em set at 2 inches wider than the arms needs to go on each side to hook up. Total 4 inches wider than the hook up width. I usually just lovers the arms to the right hight, and back right up. Step off and hold the arms open, then pull the tractor (or force the rear wheel) back that inch, and slide them right on. You have lug tires, so stepping on a lug to move the tractor backwards is perhaps the easiest for you. Hook up the pto before the arms, and then the top link last, as you can force the position to fit by lowering or raising the rams. (Of cause you are not supposed to have the engine running) Takes a maximum of two minutes from ready to back up till hooked up and on the go, when you find the right way to do it. You may have to try a few times, and perhaps doing things in another order works better for you. Check chains, Well ideally they would keep your pto shaft from parting and making a mess of things, if you partially looses the implement. I don't use them, just makes sure the finger snappers are in place on all hook up points, and then I put my trust in that. Looking forward to hearing how well that thing mows

As JA said, and also bushings wear in the steering block. It can be drilled and re-bushed with bronze bushings. Also the lower steering shaft can be shimmed out by adding washers behind the cotter key at the steering block end. Some later models had a nut there that you simply pull a cotter key then turn a nut to adjust and reinsert the cotter key. I do this with all my machines and tighten things up until there is no play in the steering but also no binding. Make sure the steering wheel is straight when the wheels are straight ahead while doing this. Cleat

What you have is a "pulse pump" which is operated by the vacuum and pressures created in the crank case as the piston travels up and down. This manual should be helpful.

The farmer across the road from us growing up had a small tool room that was always in total disarray. If you asked him for a specific item he would just reach down and retrieve it, when you returned it he would just toss it on the bench or floor, but the next time it was needed he knew where it was. I don't have that type of recall and have found that putting tools on the wall and having lots of labeled storage spaces is best for my needs.

The 300,400 and 500 have the same frame. The 520 frames can have 2 extra holes to locate the gear reduction steering base. The 300 and 400 are pretty much the same except some wiring differences and 1" rear axles and 6" tires with longer spindles on a lot of the 300s.Hood stand is different on the 520 from the 300 and 400. The foot rests and fender pans will all interchange. The manual transmissions will all interchange but the 300 series used a lot of 4 pinion 1" axle units,The 10 horse machines I have seen have one. The Eaton 1100 hydro will interchange across the range.

I really try to keep parts organized, each brand tractor gets its own tote for extra parts, I also have been wire tying a label with the part number. I also have tote boxes for kohler and briggs. I still have a bunch to organize and label but it makes sense since I only know what is someday when I am gone hopefully my kids can make sense of it and sell off. each tractor also has a binder with the manuals and other info. yes I am organized

If you looked at my shop you would swear that I just open the door, give things a toss & hope for the best. Well, that maybe kinda true. Oddly enough, I usually know where almost everything is though.

Actually I do reasonably well on nuts bolts and hardware. Parts not so much.

Here's a little update. Just got to finish motor and put it on. More photos coming when done. Might be putting a solid seat pan as well.
