Here's a video I know that most of you will enjoy. It's about my '84 C-125 I bought used from a Toro Wheel Horse Dealership for $1050 when I was 17. That's almost 12 years ago. It's had some different deck configurations and small things done to it over the years like different tires, cup holder, new seat, tail lights, 48" side discharge deck front mounted, 42" rear discharge deck, snowplow, and one of my favorites is my homemade 5 gallon bucket holder. This is the tractor that I mow my yard with now and I used to mow the grass around my Dad's barns at his farm with it too. This winter I did a bunch of work to this tractor. I repaired my front pivot plate, installed a new front pivot pin, spindles, clutch pulley, front tires, voltmeter. I re-wired the tractor and cleaned up the harness. I had my front rims powder coated and I installed new wheel bearings and dust caps. I also bought and installed the missing firewall and bracket for the belt guard that this tractor never came with. The good ole K301 was getting low on compression so I had it rebuilt and in the video I start it up for the first time. Wheel Horse C-125 First / Cold Start After Rebuild and Tractor Overview

Hi. I recently found a 1987 312-8 in a friends barn that had been sitting forever. I plan on joining my local pulling club this year and having some fun. I have cleaned it up and added a few mods but still need a hitch and a few other things. Thanks to this site I have found a lot of useful info.

Went to my buddies shop yesterday and the bike lift was open (which is unusual) so Gary thought it a good chance to get the commando out and try to remove the hitch pin. Once we got the wheels off I noticed some play in the left rear hub. moved in and out on the axle about an 1/4 inch. Called up our good friend Rmaynard for advice and got that issue resolved. thanks Bob. About 3 weeks ago I sprayed Aero-Kroil on the hitch pin and figured we would still have to cut the pin to get it out but after a couple taps we saw it move and were able to punch it out with little trouble. Ordered one of Lowell's awesome hitches and got it installed. High quality product as always Lowell, Thank You. The brake was a little weak on the down slopes last year. I am pretty sure the commando wont float. The adjusting nut was rusted up also but after 30 minutes soaking with a kroil treatment it was good to go. Love that stuff. Hoping to find a good lawn sweep now that I have a hitch. Noticed the original Wheel Horse tires are age cracked on the inside. I think I mowed all last summer with no air in them. Will start looking for some new tires. Oil change and a good cleaning next. Then load it on the trailer and take it back out to the lake April 1st. Almost forgot, Need to mount a good adult beverage holder.

I have had this C100 for quite a while. I don't use it much. Based on the mushroom on the pin, someone had tried to remove it. The draw bar had been modified and I wanted to return it to original. So, a year or so ago I started working on it. I applied penetrant and tapped it with my small tapping hammer to set up vibration. Didn't work so I drilled the boss to allow for penetrant to get to the pin. Frequently, during that time until now I would add penetrant and tap, tap, tap. Then I struck it with a bigger hammer. Didn't move. Decided to give it a little heat to suck the penetrant in. Still didn't move. I decided to take drastic measures and cut the pin. I cut it flush with the boss (note that I removed the rear bottom bolt from the transmission case to allow clearance for the blade). Started drilling. I started off with a 7/32 drill bit and stepped it up in 32nds all the way to 5/8. I did not drill all the way through the boss I stopped short to be sure the pin would not break off inside the boss (that would be a bummer). I worked from the right side because I am right handed AND TO PROTECT THE NARROWER BOSS ON THE RIGHT SIDE. Ok, now I am ready. Impact hammer here we go. Rat a Tat Tat Tat, it is out. Ruler shows depth of the drill.

Years back I was driving my street rod through Amish country and pulled into a gas station at the same time as an Amish man in his buggy. He was using the hand crank pump to buy kerosene while I was taking a restroom break. When I left the store I walked over and checked out the buggy and heard my wife laughing. Turns out the Amish man was checking out the street rod at the same time. We spoke for a few minutes and my wife asked if she could take a picture of us with the horse and buggy, he posed like a pro! Wish I had that picture to share.

I knew Aldon was moving but didn’t realize it was to Craig’s magic shed.

I wonder how much AMC Rules paid for Aldon . or did he come as a free part of the tractor purchase.

I know I will have to do some disassembly before I proceed with the remainder of the Resto-Mod; however, I just finished the grill housing. It had been dented and straightened, so I bolted it on for a quick photo-op prior to the disassembly.

Don't you have one with a smaller steering wheel ? This one rubs my belly.

Considering the awesome fabricator that Aldon is, that is one good deal Craig. Get a nice and a buddy to help keep the tractors up, build new designs, and road trip together!

I think you guys all have nailed it. Bottom line, we have become a throw away society. People just can't fathom spending a lot of money for a quality product when they can buy junk and just toss it when its worn out. I think today's generation just doesn't have any concept of laying on the ground, changing oil, greasing fittings, changing parts, sharpening blades, etc. They all want easy. Blade gets dull, throw the tractor away because it is probably shot at that point too. It is kind of ironic that the new generation constantly hounds and preaches about being "green" and protecting our planet, not at all considering all of the sad consequences that excess environmental controls have cost every one of us. Yet this same mindset of people think absolutely nothing about throwing mega tons after mega tons of "stuff" into landfills every day. Sad. I, like most of you guys on this forum are probably the last of the fix-it generation. There are few things that "irk" me more, than having to throw away anything, be it a tool, an appliance, a mechanical device, only because a 25 cent part to fix it is no longer available. I guess that is how and why I learned to self fabricate what I need these days to at least attempt to keep something running and out of the landfills. Just look around, how many "repair shops" for anything, be it tractors, lawn mowers, radios, TV's, appliances, etc. are still in business today? I could go on and on about this topic, but I'm sure I would be preaching to the choir with you guys.

I am proud to be the Predator Pioneer, glad to see so many doing the conversion/upgrade. Aldon has taken it to the next lever for sure.

try squeezing the rivet with a pair of vise grips before you drill it. that worked for me in the past eric j

Goldann520, the way I tightened mine was by inserting a bolt&fender washer through one side. Then another fender washer & a lock nut. I tightened until I had the tension that I wanted. If I ever need to stiffen on loosen in the future. It will only require tightening of loosening the bolt & nut. The tip just pulls off.
  26. 4 points
Simply drill the rivet out and replace with a bolt with 2 nuts on it

Yeah, the sale items were organized in categories with 8-10 auctioneers selling at a time. I must be getting selective though, I didn't buy anything. I think the Amish folk are more conditioned to being in the eye of the public and accept the fact that they are being photographed. It was cold and windy all week here Jim, but today the wind calmed, the sun was out and it was a pleasant day to be out. There were a couple decent tractors there, but they were all the wrong color. No Amish deserts for me Jim. Mrs. Ks Shoofly pie is the best in the County. I'm too savvy to come home with some strangers pie smell on my breath. Right Jeff, yellow/white and yellow/green. But no red for Ed. It is an annual event Hammer. If you need a kitchen sink....."come on up" next year. That pic would be a classic Dick. The Amish today, although they have restrictions on any connection to the outside utility grids, ie electricity, water, gas, etc., they have no problem using todays technology. As evidenced by the engineering firm they hired to do the sounding to create a geological map to locate the best location to drill the irrigation wells for the farm they recently purchased adjacent to me. I have seen several Amish metal and wood shops with all the machinery powered by compressed air, and the water from these irrigation wells will pressurized with air. The nearest well is about 200yds from mine. I hope my well isn't affected and that I don't hear the diesel powered gen sets all night. Sorry I missed you Robbie. Did you get the Kohler with the broken crank? Yeah, I looked at the B-82 and a couple TORO vertical crank tractors.

BRF I tried, I really tried to cue em () up about your birthday in the earlier thread about your new tractor..... Man they can be a slow bunch when they want to be, geez Louise...... At any rate, please do take care of the congestion situation and get yourself back up to spec. Leave the tractor in the garage alone and give yourself a day or two to recoup. And I wish you Happy Birthday Again seeing how this is the OFFICIAL BRF BIRTHDAY posting area...... (if you watch the happy faces long enough, it makes you go cross-eyed). Chris

Let me say first off the "higher" price I paid was at a "mom and pop" small town dealership that also sold lower end products (Poulan Pro/MTD) so he had more opportunities for a sale and only competition from JD and CC dealers, 2) when I was looking for my first brand new L&G I was raised on CC so I went there first then JD both dealers on a comparable shaft driven tractor at the time was $10k with mower deck and snow plow, then I went to my neighbors' dealership I asked about belt vs shaft driven his answer was simply (on a hydro drive) what moves the trans is the pump therefore unless the belt constantly slips there was real loss in pump efficiency vs a shaft, so I climbed on the 520 took it for a test spin ,the open hood classic farm tractor look and Onan sound sold me not to mention the fact he said any attachments from '73 would work/fit on this tractor so buying new ones wasn't a priority at that time as he was just getting the xi series in and they had to be bought with model specific attachments, 3) those of us lucky enough to have a mill and lathe at our disposal with the knowledge to use them can for the most part reproduce a good many of the parts if needed but mass production for profit may be the biggest issues there (even with this forum we still are a small niche market) so as much as we may hate it people like Lincoln at A-Z ,Joe's Outdoor, and Mark (RichmondRed01) who buy non running/throw away units actually help keep us going with used original parts, without "remaking the wheel", sometimes it's best that something good and simple went the way of the DoDo bird and us lunatics can enjoy something someone else looked over, JD has brand recognition from farming as well as CC from IH, AC went to Simplicity which still survives, and MTD basically owns the riding mower market now with CCC, it really is dog eat dog and if Toro wasn't making money why keep bleeding to keep a few diehard fans happy, Jeff.

I had NO idea that Wh's cost that much back then. I agree they have significant steel involved but they didn't do any major design "changes" every other year either which means you don't have to "retool". I've owned Cub Cadets, Massey Ferguson which were both shaft drive. Wheel horse's deficiency then was the lack of shaft drive (or so I thought). Now that I've owned one (or three) I can't say as there is much difference. I used to pull full size hay-wagons (for kicker bales) around the yard with the Ferguson. I suspect a Wh could do the same. I remember speaking to a Ferguson Rep at Empire Farm Days cause they dropped the garden tractor line and parts were becoming unavailable. He said at the time, Ferguson was in a state of "Barely surviving" and they needed the financial support from the sale of their garden tractor line, to continue to operate. I honestly thought that the fact that Wh didn't constantly change their design that they could maintain a lower price point. All the comments above , when taken together , present a pretty good argument for their fading. Perhaps its our advantage, I'm still hoping that with new machining and fabrication technology that we can find new "Parts" resources so we can keep them going. We've got the "knowledge and support" part of the equation nailed on this forum. (You guys are still mean , grumblely, nasty, no-help , untalented (can't compliment you too much, it will go to your head), people.... I thank everybody for the thoughtful and informative replies, (regardless of what I write this is an amazing forum) Chris

I was a little concerned about the lug nuts centering. I didn't want to crush the rims. I ended up tightening them some of the way and inspecting how it looked. I started them all with the rear jacked up and alternated tightening each lug nut. I think it's okay.

Had to get rid of some construction debris today and had a half empty trailer and so I decided to clear some trash out of my business storage. GhostRider has been taking his long winters nap in there so I started him up and pulled him out. Then Judge (my third born) wanted to drive awhile... nice picture opportunity in between cleaning stuff up!
