C120 Frank-n-Tractor Picked up this 74 C120 for parts. When I got it to the shop I started to take a closer look and under all the rust there was some good bones. I also picked up a fake M12 Kohler, (one of those marked 301 that has a 10hp bore), that needed some love. Working on the engine and ready to test run, I decided to put the engine on the C120 and maybe, at the same time, see if the hydro transmission was good. The M10 was a carburetor nightmare. It had a Walbo fixed jet that would flood at will, sometimes run perfect then the float would stick open and the smoke rolled. New float components just lessened the problem slightly. Ended up changing the carb using one from a Kohler K301. Ran fine and the test of the hydro proved it was in great shape. With all that, I decided to fixer up a bit, kind of a tinker project. Changed the broken steering wheel, change left rear tire, (all tires hold air now), install a Briggs wiring harness, cabbaged some seat supports from the junk pile and added a newer seat pan from a GT1100. The old seat pan was BER. One of the owners had installed slide latches and mounted wooden blocks on foot rest to support the old seat pan. Creative! The dawg gone thing runs good! Not sure what I am going to do with it but it is a hobby. I’ll post more photos as I get more time to tinker with it.

My friend and I were talking the other day about nightmare projects we have gotten into that we wish we could take back. Feel free to come clean if you dare.......just two from me but there have been a few more. Project.....a 26' cabin cruiser that was a total POS that I thought I could turn into a nice weekend boat for my young family. Effort....2 years and who knows how much wasted money on a fail. Result.....scrapped it for the value of the trailer. Project....payed 400 for a 70 Raider 10 from some pig farmer in Bainbridge and got totally taken...my bad. Effort.....countless hours and 1100 bucks and the POS never ran right. My first WH and it hurt. Result.....sold it for a 200 just to make the pain go away. The good news is that I am much smarter now.......

I’ve been gone on a missions trip to the Philippines for several weeks but we have had some really decent weather back at home. Dan @Achto took advantage of that to do a bunch of painting. Apparently my dad did too... after mocking everything up with his adjustable “land wheel” setup he completely disassembled the plow. He sent many of the pieces to the sand blaster to clean them up. then he primed and painted all the pieces replacing any fasteners that needed to be changed out. Now it is all back together and waiting a set of Terry’s top notch decals! it really turned out nice but the real test will be dropping it in the ground this summer. Dad has such an eye for detail and this plow exhibits that... Next up—repainting the sheet metal on Clyde before the summer show/plow season begins.

Ok, a weather update. Wednesday afternoon. 3:40, got the C-175 out with my Mike on the controls. Its snowing to beat the band, but its the wetest heaviest slop I have seen in a long time. Put the chains back on and said to Mike have at it. So heres just a few pics of him pushing about 3 inches of slop. The snowthrower would gag on this. Its plowing material. Plus the THUNDER in the sky is like a summer storm. Good thing I have this machine still. Will post a few more pictures later. Hope everyone is good. Winter is far from over here right now. Btw, no more fun than seat time on his horse. Glenn

Got my lights wired in on my custom 702. There super bright and I love the look it gives the machine! I will upload a couple more after I try them out tonight.

Not me - I am still trying to clean my mind of that visual...I would not be able to focus on the road with that thing centered in my rear view mirror...Heck - I could never post it on the "What's in Your Mirror Thread"...Would start this discussion all over again...

Oh, before I came in, a couple extra shots of the snow cone slop. But fast as he clears it, the surface gets covered right up. Luv that C-175 power and eaton 1100 hydro. Its the bomb..... Its almost a white out, tried to get a picture of it.

New bearing time. Now just need the engine back from the machine shop to install this beauty

You and me both Dan! Plow season can’t come fast enough for this “plow dog” especially with some of the “new” equipment in the circle! Caleb even wants to mount up a set of AG’s on JackRabbit and give it a go... Clyde should be a formidable “mule” for sure.

Your heat houser is a little more efficient than mine. My cab stays 30F above outside temp. I am starting to doubt if I'll ever get to use mine again. I wonder.......could I make it snow by removing the cab and blower?

That's what I use as well. Don't know if it is a perfect match however as I usually paint at least an entire panel or part. The spray paint and cans of liquid paint to get sprayed on with a spray gun are different shades even though they are from the same manufacturer. All of my tractors have this small discrepancy and after a while you don't notice any more. You can just tell from this pic. The hood and fender were professionally sprayed with TSC IH red and everything else is TSC spray paint in IH red. Cleat

I have several but what sticks out are the ones my wife reminds me of! Like the 70 something Power Wagon that I told her I got a good deal on, and I worked on it all..... the...... time. Now when I say I am going to look at something to buy, she says, "remember the good deal truck?" yeah

Well @953 nut I think I got it Richard. I want out in the garage and checked out the 1054 seat patterns that I made. I checked them and I did make the back just to see if it would be ok and it looks good. Tomorrow I'll make the seat . I have the wood for both Back and seat but I never did make the wedges for the seat. I just never got around to splitting a 2x4. I do know there's a lot more material in the 1054 and a lot more sewing. I did a different type seam on this back and I like it see if you can spot it.

These pages ain't big enough to list all the stuff I messed up over the years . I won't even try but I will say I learned from each one .

I have more 953s than you have repetitive posts! I need to begin accumulating implements to justify adding to the herd!

Don't for get Dells68 the slits go down on the frame. and the angled cut on the bottom goes to the back against the back rest. I'm glade you like it.

I have great respect for appropriate conservation efforts and as an avid outdoors person, I participate as much as I can. I'm not speaking for @dells68 or the Denver area as in the linked pamphlets. Part of the nature of being appropriate is recognizing proper local levels of every given native species and managing as needed. Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife does an excellent job of this IMHO. There are a few fish and land animals that have levels Far too high here. Coyote is one of them. They are - the pests..... Back to actual topic: I ground some of the rust off the seat today in prep for paint.

On the foot note, one of my students' dad is a Dr. of physical therapy. I mentioned to him I needed new inserts for my shoes and he took care of me yesterday. Feet feel much better now! Back to the thread. I got my cover and padding from @BOB ELLISON this morning. Wow!!!!! It looks awesome right out of the box!! I don't have my seat pan here to fit it to, so I'll have to post pics later on. Bob's work is amazing! Very professional! If you need a cover, I highly suggest you contact him quickly, as I'm sure he will be swamped with orders!! Thanks so much Bob!!!!!!

A hint that you are not familiar with this ignition system requires a warning. The breakerless ignition is self powered and the single ignition wire that goes back to the ignition switch is simply grounded to the chassis to shut it off. Do not allow any battery voltage into that wire as that will smoke the coil. To rule out a wiring problem disconnect that wire and isolate it from the chassis and the engine should run. Ground the wire to shut it off. Garry

That's sick. I can only hope it's been neutered.

@dells68 I've only been to 1 Big Show and that was last year. I tried to meet as many as I could but me being a newbie I didn't know anyone except 953nut, squonk, Ed Kennell. I sat with Richard and he helped my with some of the names. But I going to make this year if the creek don't rise. And yes look me up there.

Depends on if it was hardwood. No the way he did it with the steel spacers. I like. Falls in line with what I had in mind with all my leftover parts and what they might become one day.

As an addition to what Richard posted above this is the test for the coil. You indicated you had a spark but it was weak. "Usually" the trigger either it works or it doesn't. However the coil may be failing and not putting out enough voltage...

Down in South Jersey we only got about 2" but it was a couple of degrees above freezing so it was like pushing a giant Slurpee.

The one from eBay in Germany is the right one. Just check also how many teeth are there in your broken one. There is also a genuine Kohler on eBay here for $64.97 (unusually cheap)and aftermarket ones go for around $42.00. Just a thought to try and help you.The reason I ask if you are in a hurry for it is that I have relatives that will be here around mid May and will go back to Portugal within a couple of weeks after that. They can take it and ship it to you from there which will be a lot less expensive. The whole thing will probably cost less than half what you pay there. It is up to you.

How many implement-ed 953's have you got so far? And how many more implements do you have to fill your current demand?

Top notch work!! That set up looks great, can't wait to see it in action. Might have to do some plagiarizing on his design.

If you remove the wire from the ignition switch at the module you will eliminate all chassis wiring as potential problem items.

Thought this may provide a little amusement for those who are into old American mowers. Spooky that it is in a local Heritage Centre in the UK along with other lawn orientated exhibits dedicated to history of Lawnmower design. - The advertisment was blown up in size from an image measuring about 2" x 3" in an old magazine. Some lethal Toe cutters too!.

So a couple of years ago a guy pulls into the BS with a couple of horses and a off brand on a trailer. It was a nice vintage Simplecity or something. The guy was, politely I'll add, told he couldn't bring it in by WHCC guys and told why. Back on the trailer it went. I later asked staff how the guy with the green & yellow thingy got in. He says take another look at it ....sure as $h1t it was a round hood in drag & they had to let it in! I do believe the feature was customs that year but still!

NO!!! That would be a horrible waste of an almost perfectly good Wheel Horse! A wise man on this forum once said of such sins... It's just paint! The bigger question is, which one of you Michigan guys is going to step up and rescue her?
  50. 2 points
A wire wheel on her angle grinder... will make short work of that surface rust Eric. Just make sure to double up on your eye protection(safety glasses, full face shield)... and have her cover any exposed skin before she starts.
