My buddy and fellow RS member, Ed Kennell, just left with my last two Classic-style Wheel Horses. So long to my 1986 312A and matching 1986 417A. Ed and I used the hand winch installed on his trailer plus the HF crane on my 518xi to easily load the tractors. Both are must-have accessories in my book! In preparation for our move next year, I am continuing to downsize the herd to a workable number.. So in the Wheel Horse column I now have left three Black Hoods and three 5xi tractors. That still leaves seven Bee Hinds as well. Next weekend we begin the search for a new property further South in the State for Lovers.

Finnaly found a complete wheel horse snow cab, not quite ready for the snow but when it comes this will make it a little more enjoyable.

Personally I like sunrise red I painted my C-161 8 speed with it and Cecil liked it at the last show he attended. I feel like we are beating a dead horse with the paint topic but I got it directly from the man himself "there is no official WheelHorse red" Cecil told me that back then paint mixing wasn't the science it is today so there is variations in the color. So as most of us agree, if you paint it red and you like it then that is your Wheel Horse red!

I am a firm believer in magnetic drain plugs for engines and gear sumps. I have these on my tractors, #IP-02. These are a direct replacement for the OEM plug.

Both your horses made the trip North John, and are waiting for me to move the boat to winter storage to make indoor space for them. Thank you again, and I really enjoyed the time we had this morning.

Searcher - I bought it yesterday AM. I figured the attachments were worth more than the asking price, if there was a major issue with the tractor. But I'm not finding any major issue, just some neglect. Need to buy some front tires, clean carb, change fluids. See where I am from there.

There are several old threads on this site covering painting. Do a search on this site and you will find lots of good threads to read. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/forum/45-restorations-modifications-customizations/ Here are a couple to start off with. If you plan to use a hardener follow the manufacturer's instructions and be sure you have a good respirator that is designed to be used with the product. IH red is the color of choice for most of us.

I've been told... When under -any- load, you should have it throttled up some... 1/2 or so...because they're air-cooled. you need engine speed to move air via the flywheel fan. They have Plenty of low end torque though.

You won't hurt that K series. I've run mine at low speeds countless hours over decades and never had an issue, Even at lower RPM there's a lot of splashing going on.

This engine does not have the ACR (automatic compression release). It was thought that two belts were needed to overcome the compression to start the engine. Because the double wide cover was only used on one model (701), many were lost or destroyed making originals very rare and expensive. The button is simply a "kill" switch to stop the engine. Hold it in and it grounds the points. Not needed if the engine has an on/off switch on the dash. Tire sizes are in the owners manual. Rear tires are 6x12's and the front are 4x8's. No need to buy on eBay, they are free right here. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/1074-tractor-1961-401-551-701-da-om-ipl-wiring-snpdf/

My son, grandson and I had a great day Saturday. This it is a large show and we spent a long day there and I wish I had time to go back and talk to many people I met there. I took my 1985-312-8 pictured below, but was so busy I forgot to take a picture of it there. There were about 20 garden Tractors at this show which is the largest showing I've seen in Texas so far. The Club owns 48 acres with lots of permanent displays, and is working or a complete Cotton Gin display.. They also have an area where they hold a plow day, antique planting corn day, antique cork harvesting day, etc.Someday I want to be the first Gt to show up at there plow day! I know it's green, but my18 mth old grandson Jeremy had a good time on this old JD, With it's loose steering he could really work that big wheel back and forth.. This was his first of many shows to attend. This owner from Johnson city, Tx had 4 WH but I never got to meet him Jeremy checked out member Motor12's beautiful RJ there . This meticious C145 was from Houston area, and had several enhancements. The Kohler engine screen was stainless expanded metal. The inset taillights looked cool This poor 312-8 was for sale by a vendor for a crazy price, needless to say it didn't sell. This was the only Case GT there It's green, but I like the loader! A nicely restored Panzer, but I like them in turquiose This was a great condition original Gibson Super with hood This giant 4 cylinder Hit & Miss was run several times during the day. it originally powered a geenerator that was mounted with it, but not operational. Being a power plant guy I would love to see one of these old generators restored and operational. This 14" dia. piston is bigger than a 5 gallon bucket . Lots of engine in a large shed, some working, many awaiting restoration This large horizontal Hit & Miss also originally powered a generator I was intriqued by the mechanism inside the flywheel which I suspect was some sort of speed governing mechanism. Here's the great looking olf GE generator it drove This large engine was hooked up to an air supply and slowly rotated all day long. There was also a large number of small hit or Miss engines. This restored Titan drove a flat belt powered air compressor, This is the first Cockshunt I've seen it Texas. It did very well in the Antique Tractor Pull Oliver was the featured tractor of the show and there were many! The Cat club was new at the show this year & there were a few track machines. This old Cletrac was an interesting display. it reportedly didn't run when brought to the show. Several guys tinkered with it and it was running by early afternoon. After lots of hand cranking, they hooked it up to another tractor and pull started it. The owner then drove it around for quite a while. This was a unique display an antique Car Club was also at the show. Does anyone know what model this old Case is? Thanks for joining me! IMG_4464.MOV oil pull.html

Hey all, i recently picked up a Raider 8 and and Charger 12 to add to my small but growing collection. Both need restored including paint and I have never had much painting experience when it comes to auto paint. Can someone give me some helpful tips on prep , like if i need to strip it to bare metal or not and what colors to use? As well as how to mix the paint with hardener and clear coat. Thank you in advance!

Some of the old manuals say you can shift gears while moving. I am a believer of not doing that. Put your transmission in the gear you want, and ease your foot off the clutch. Throttle at about 3/4 speed. Always come to a complete stop to shift gears.

I respectfully disagree with you Ed on the tires on a snowblower, I don't have a problem with turf tires on my snowblower tractors, but I do on plow tractors. if you angle a plow on a tractor it will push the front end in heavy wet snow. if the blower pushes you just lift the blower a little and put weight on the front end and the tractor will turn where you want it. Not saying that other tires wouldn't be a nice plus and help some, every little bit helps right ? but not totally necessary good luck eric j

On this side of the pond we use mostly lawn and garden batteries (group U1)but I believe the battery tray holds a group #22NF battery . Here’s one source of batteries for Europe . https://www.yuasa.co.uk/batteries/leisure-marine-garden-view-all.html

You guys got me thinking (always a dangerous thing). I just happen to have a 74 C120 that I bought for parts. Took some tools out to the backyard today and now I have a 15 amp stator and the correct flywheel and rectifier all blasted/cleaned and painted that will get installed as soon as everything dries

If the hydro motion lever isn't getting the cam action to move all the way to full forward range, it's probably a minor adjustment. Raise the seat and inspect the cam assembly -- you may find that the friction bolt is loose, which will allow the cam to wobble up and down instead of being forced to travel fully forward/backward. Clean it and snug it down so the motion lever has enough resistance to say put on rough ground, and it's likely to be fine. Check the other fasteners on the cam, but the culprit is usually the big friction bolt in the middle. It's also a good idea to remove the access plates over the center tunnel and below the throttle/choke levers to clean the inevitable gunk out of that area. You'll find more pivots for the control levers under there. After cleaning, lightly oil the pivots with a drop or two of 30-weight oil and wipe the excess away. Your controls will start working like new. I'd replace those wire nuts with proper crimp-on terminals along the way... mostly just some TLC and she'll be back to work!

Key words there Pete... a tractor with one hour on it can be junk if oil was never put in .... what's that State Farm jingle??? ...yup we've seen that. I don't think anyone is trying to argue here.. just guys stating the fact that low hour tractors aren't any better than high hour ones if they haven't been taken care of and high hour tractor can be nice if they were taken care of .
