    What an absolutely gorgeous weather weekend! Friday and Saturday, fair weather, temps around 70-75... and sitting in the shade with a light breeze. What could be better? Oh... yeah, enjoying that weather with some tractor buds! Here's my pics from Sycamore. Terry and Denny An interesting modified Suburban to front engine Denny and Terry There was a 1054 in the flea market... so of course Lane was spotted there! Unknown local club member who was there participating in the WWII military display on this B-series with early 60s fenders. Steve and Dave Terry and Steve Wingrider and Terry And now a few other shots around the show….. This guy bought this Holder off a scrap pile missing many parts and not even knowing what it was for a long time. Never heard of this one before… Someone’s clever little ½ scale Cub Cadet Other random shots And last... a couple of the big boys. This 1916 Illinois Engine was making it's debut at the show. It is owned by the club, purchased in 2003, and has just finally had restoration completed. It was built locally in Sycamore, IL. This is one of 65 built, 6 are still known to exist, only 3 of which run. Again, what a great show, couldn't ask for better weather or company. Was glad to get to hang out with these guys for a couple days. Looking forward to seeing Steve and Terry again this weekend at the Le Sueur MN Pioneer Power show.

    Great pics of a great show Steve and Terry! David and I had a great time and enjoyed catching up with all the Red Square members in attendance. The Sycamore Show is as good as Steve says it is -that's for sure! I just got home after five days in northern Indiana and Illinois-but I need to get these posted! Here are a few of the pics I took at the show!

    What great pics! I wish we had a show like that around here. The local steam show here has a few GT's but no one displays them except for me and Brandon and a few others here and there. Lot's of shade too and not in an open field. I think the last time Steve was in so many pictures at one time they were filming Jurassic Park!

    Well my stepmom called me and said if I wanted the rest of my dad's tractors, come get them. So needless to say you know what I did this afternoon. I know I got a 312-8 with a magnum 12 in it, think I got a c81 and not sure on the last one. It has a k241 in it. Not sure if any of the motors are original. Try to get better pics later. Ran out of light.

    I bought Ezra from the original owner last fall. I plan on putting the tall shoot blower on this winter. With the cooler temps we've been having it's gotten me to thinking about winter duty and getting the Horses ready. I wanted to upgrade the lights with Sylvaina Silver Stars and new reflectors. The lights on this tractor worked and this is what I found after removing the lens and bulbs. The grass DID NOT fall into the sockets! Here is a thread when I did the same upgrade to my C-160

    I have a homemade barrel grill. Love it. I smoke on it all the time. Charcoal and wood ( apple, hickory are my choice). Have a 14lb turkey in action this past weekend. And yes, Swim that bird in a brine before, taste amazing.

    I am planning to be there on Friday and Saturday and then golfing on Monday. I have not touched a club since we played two years ago, so it should be interesting. From the Pioneer Power meeting last month, their featured tractor this year are just classic tractors from the 60's and 70's. I think that they are trying to pull in some younger folks and I am excited to see what comes. They are also having a vintage snowmobile expo as well and had claimed that there are already commitments for over 100 snowmobiles that would be there. I'm hoping to have the project that I have been working on for the past 2 1/2 years done to show, but I am still waiting on a couple of the main body pieces to arrive so it might not make it. I am looking forward to seeing all of you this week. Dennis

    This is my inexpensive GT14. ($20) The previous owner had a K301A motor mounted on it and that just wasn't going to work! He gave me this K301S and I installed it. I don't have any history on this motor so I didn't know what to expect. First attempt to fire it up with carb cleaner was a success! Looked like Westley's garage on "Last of the Summer Wine". Smoke rollin out the door! That was yesterday. This morning I put somemore parts on the motor and tried to start it with the temporary fuel cell. Would not start, no fuel to the carb. Removed the fuel pump and disassembled. I never saw so much rust in such a small space. (sorry, no pic of that) Wash it in the sink, reassembled and installed. Restart? YES! It runs on it's own . Even took it for a ride around the yard. Not too good up hills but the belt is way too long and slips. OK ... it's back to the garage. Here's the pics.

    That is a model 2002 Trophy WAC w/150 HP Merc. I bought it new in 2001 at Shy Beaver Marine at Raystown Lake, and actually sold it on York,Pa Craigslist a few weeks ago to a guy in Michigan. He is scheduled to pick it up this week. The new owner Has never seen the boat. My wife and I cruised , fished and camped in it for several years on Raystown lake and the Delaware Bay. Now with two sons and four grandsons that like to fish and crab the WAC is just too crowded, so I am looking for an open center or side console to gain more room.

    25 lbs different is a lot. Sounds like you may have a valve or ring problem. Best way is to do a leak down test. There is something wrong in that rear cylinder. But it should still start. That engine will run on one cylinder so the first thing you have to do is correct the electrical problem.

    Thanks for the replies , I'm getting ready to fit my 310-8 into the worker of the bunch ( since restoring the C-101 in my AV ) I never even gave the smaller axles a thought until I read this thread . It's going to share mowing duties with the 315-8 plus plowing and pushing snow - figured I better ask.

    I really don't think things like you're mentioned are any problem with the 4 pinion, 1" transmissions. One of my tractors up north was a 84 GT1100 (the gray ones). It was the tractor I used to push the snow off my 800' of driveway. We had some nasty snows too since we were right in the lake effect area off Lake Michigan. Since it was more fun to push snow the only time I got the 16hp out to blow it was when it was just too much. I also plowed (dirt) with it. The tiller went on the 16hp because the axle hitch was different on mine. As far as why they made them. I'd say is was just a cost thing.

    I decided to work until it hit 100 deg in the garage today ... wow, a whole hour!! Oh well!! I got a nice 10" electric fan mounted to keep the rear cool, or at least cooler. The extra friction of the soft lines have me nervous, so I figured a little cooling would help.

    Well I got that Steering wheel off with no trouble this morning. Reattached the bearing puller then gave it a couple of whacks with a hammer and off it came. Now the old horse is ready for another bath before I remove the rear and separate the frame Every screw, nut and bolt and all small parts were bagged and tagged. Also took step by step photos as I dismantled it. Don't want to get stuck trying to figure out where something fits when I start putting this thing back together.

    Yes I know the mushroom gear was turned down from the factory I was just talking about the shiny spots. I put a .005 spacer underneath the cluster gear and it was a lot quieter. I took apart the differential and just need to replace those roll pins.

    I fully agree with removing the head and checking the valve, however there are a couple easier things you could try first. Immediately check for spark on the rear cylinder after the 30-40 minute run time when it quits. Then immediately check your compression on that cylinder.

    Reminds me of the day my barber found a wire imbedded in my ear. After she removed it, I remembered I was wire wheeling some wheels several days before. I never knew it was there, even after showering. Luckily she didn't think it was a course silver hair and ruin a $500 set of clippers trying to cut it off. Wear a full face shield over safety glasses when operating any grinder. Wires break off and stones explode.

    Yes the new barn is finished. Should have built it bigger !!! LOL Mike I'm right there with you regarding Kohler Magnum powered anythings! OK, time for the latest report. Arrived at the sellers house to find he had the 312 sitting in the circle drive waiting on me to get there. We pushed it up on the trailer and away I went....... home, but not without stopping at the local Waffle House for some waffles, eggs, bacon, toast, grits (yes I said grits), and coffee. It takes alot of food to successfully transport Wheel Horses around North Carolina. By the time I got home it was already 94 degrees. I rolled the 312 in the shop. I'm waiting for a cooler day to work on it. Then I run the 416 until the engine was at operating tempreture, and drained out all the old engine oil. Now the Kohler Magnum is happy with almost 3 quarts of LE 30w in it. The PO had just changed the transmission oil. It is full right up to the mark, the shifter boot is intact so no need to do anything there. All the lights work including the tail lights. Checked the charging system. There is a strong 13.95vdc going to the battery. All good there too! Wish I could tell you I did all this great and wonderful stuff to the 312 but again, thats a cooler day project. Instead I had to get on the big red tractor and work a bunch of crushed stone into the new driveway I've built to now have a circle drive. That was just too much work to do with a Wheel Horse. I needed power steering and diesel power for that project. So anyway guys, that was my day. Starting another week of overtime tomorrow. Been working overtime all Summer. Thats why I have not been here very much since the big show. Oh yeah, almost forgot, yes I took some pics! I'll post them tomorrow.

    everyone except me, Steve. i don't know what happened with taking pics yesterday, i just got talking and catching up with you guys, spent some time looking at the tractors and the day was done. i thought about it a couple times, but then got sidetracked and no pics. it was a very nice day yesterday, weather was great, rain held off and i think a good time was had by all. and Terrry M got to ride a big guys tractor........

    If your spindles have a pulley key and Nylock nut you can change that to use no key, a regular lock washer and a standard non-locking nut. Just make sure the pulley will freely spin on the shaft. The natural direction of rotation keeps the nut tight. An application of Never-seize on the shaft and pulley hub will make it much easier to take apart next time. Service bulletin Garry

    Just had a visit from one of the guys involved in this show, I'm not going to mention any names, but some of you that have met him at past shows know who i am talking about. He visited for a while and filled me in on some of the problems that have come up involving the garden tractors part of the show. without getting into any politics, I'm going to recommend anybody coming any distance with tractors to hold off on this show for this year. its disappointing but I'm probably not going to be showing anything. i might go and look around, but won't be dragging the trailer full of tractors there. Im sorry i can't go into any more details on here, but this is the internet, anybody can read this and i don't want to cause any more problems for the guy concerned......

    Setting up a RJ35 is not that difficult but you do have to fiddle with it to get it to run smooth. First off your belt size is determined by the diameter of your rear jack-shaft pulley. I run a 20" belt from the motor to the veri-drive, now if you have the larger rear puley I would start with a 37" belt from the veri-drive to the rear pulley and a 36" belt if you have the later or smaller style pulley. Keep in mind you may have to run back and forth to the auto parts place and play with lengths in order to dial it in. As for the adjustment this is what I have found to be the best way for me... 1) Make sure the adjustment rod from the speed selector to the veri-drive pivit is straight and not bent up. 2) Make sure the center chive of the veri-drive slides smoothly side to side and that there is no excessive slop. 3) Install belts 4) Lift the rear wheels off the groung (I use jack stands) 5) Place the speed selector arm in the center position (neutral position) 6) Pull the spark plug 7) Now with your left hand spin the very-drive... its should spin semi-freely except for some slight belt drag... the rear tires may spin but there should be no resistance in reference to the engine pulley. If it dosn't feel right or doesn't look right make an adjustment to your adjustment rod. 8) Now while spinning the veri-drive with your left hand, actuate the speed selector with your right, moving the lever forward... this should engage both the engine pulley (this is why I pull the spark plug) and rear pulley... The belt from the engine should be driven into the veri-drive and the rear pulley belt should be brought to the top of the veri-drive. 9) Now if it does not look like you are getting full motion of the belts into and out of the veri-drive you will have to pull the adjustment arm, screw the adjusted in or out to adjust the engine pulley's depth into the very drive. 10) When you think you have it close its time for a ride... there should not be an excessive belt slop or bouncing.. there will be some but it should run fairly smooth... if there is a lot of bounce in the belts check the v-groves and make sure they are clean of any paint and/or rust... this includes the veri-drive. 11) You may have to go back and forth with the adjustment rod in order to dial it in. Now a tid bit I should tell you... I do not use the reverse discs... they're stupid... and take up adjustment room. I like to set up my RJ35s so when the speed selector is pulled all the way back it totally disengages the belt system. This also allows you to engage the drive system in much smoother mannor because you slowly bring the power on over a greater belt range/adjustment... intead of just from the center neutral position. I may add to this as things come to my mind, LOL!

    km3h...I understand where you are going with this, but I am not sure I would paint this horse just yet. This is pretty original and may clean up really nice. She is going to make that horse look nice no matter what color it is. What do ya think??

    Ok, here's what you do. You need to go outside in front of garage, take three steps back and yell "DINO" where are you? More than likely you'll have an answer on your tranny. Stevasaurus does this stuff in his sleep. He's like a resident tractor doctor amongst several others that also know what they are doing. Gonna give you a heads up though, He is also a Bears fan, I don't think he plays well with Cheeseheads enter at your own risk. No it's not all that, I'm, sure he'll wake up sooner or later
